njbuff
Not crazy about it, but it’s only a one year deal. Could bring leadership and maybe someone who can tackle on the back end. Edited March 9, 2020 by njbuff

The money is totally irrelevant as it is a one year deal and begins to provide depth before FA begins. 7
loveorhatembillsfan4life
I’m ok with this. We are not investing big in cb 2 with Tre on the horizon. One year prove what you got left in a system he’s familiar with. Draft another now in later rounds. I’m optimistic he has a much better year under this staff!

You cannot fill all your holes in one offseason via the draft. Filling in with cheap-ish vets allows them to focus elsewhere for another year until the value matches up.
thebandit27
Like Medium deal for a CB4 with great experience who was elite in this system. Smart move
mjt328
Low risk. High reward. There was a time not very long ago that Josh Norman was among the league's best cornerbacks. But when he moved to Washington, it became clear that he was a scheme-dependent player. The guy was fantastic in zone. He was terrible in man. The good news is, we play mostly zone coverage and Sean McDermott was the defensive coordinator that got the most out of Norman. Hopefully this doesn't stop us from bringing back Kevin Johnson, because we could really use depth at the position. With Tre White, Levi Wallace, Norman and K.Johnson on the outside, then Taron Johnson at the nickel spot, we could completely wipe Cornerback off our needs list. 2

Magox
He’s familiar with the system has played at a high level under this system He played poorly the past two years playing more man-to-man which is not his forte More often than not McD brings out the best in DB’s He is only 32 years old, not injury prone (fingers crossed) so he should still be able to play a physically high level on this 1 year deal. The Bills were not going to spend cash to cap, they have the money and it won’t alter their FA strategy
Hebert19
What's not to like? We need corner depth. It's a prove it contract. And he was a pro bowler in the system (arguably the best corner in the league in the system)
AlCowlingsTaxiService
Norman is the veteran in the position group that McBeane likes ... veteran presence who has lost one step, maybe two .... chance he doesn’t make the final roster IMO.
ProcessYaDigg
This is a fantastic pick up. Yes, he was awful with the Redskins. But come on, it was the Redskins. I don't think anyone really wanted to play there. Horrible coach, horrible organization. McD said it himself. "Here in Buffalo, you will be the best version of yourself." I firmly believe that and he'll get the most out of Norman. I think Norman will be excited to play again and we will get the most out of him. If not, he'll enjoy the bench. McD has shown that he's smart enough to pull players or rotate them when they're not performing as expected. For the doubters out there, be patient and be optimistic. Our FO knows what they're doing.

Rc2catch
I’m a little amazed how negative some of these comments are. This hurts NOTHING. It’s only a year, he was a very effective zone corner, Levi and Taron are still here, and it’s not like they won’t add more guys to the competition. Norman has never been overly athletic but the dude has instincts. What is the worst case scenario? He backs up Levi? Or he’s depth if they sign someone who can steal Levi’s job? Beane covers all angles, low risk signing just in case he can’t get what he really wants later. Kinda like Kroft last year. 4

hemma
Either Beane & McDermott: 1) Watched film of last year and decided he could still perform well in our system or 2) Read about his availability (probably here), pressed Caps Lock and said, "I'VE HEARD OF HIM! LET'S GET THIS GUY! SUPERBOWL!" I may be wrong, but I'm inclined to believe they watched film. 2 7
Big Turk
Most likely not much risk associated with this and probably not much guaranteed either...which is why there are incentives built in. If he doesn't do well, Bills can cut him out of training camp with no real risk involved. If he does do well, Bills will have a good player. YoloinOhio
Low risk move and they have the space. McD probably thinks he could return to form in his D, 1 year deal, see what happens. Type of move that doesn’t preclude other moves and could help. Edited March 9, 2020 by YoloinOhio

Ayjent
It's a prove it deal and if he isn't looking good - I think the Bills will leave him on the bench or have him come in on certain situations. The Bills have a lot of options on how to use him - and Washington is a clown show franchise right now - many guys on that team are preserving themselves for their next contract opportunity elsewhere. Phil The Thrill
I’m not as completely satisfied with Kevin Johnson as most Bills are. I thought he did ok in stretches but like Levi Wallace, struggled a bit at times. He also didn’t have a great game in the playoffs. So anyone lamenting at a possible Johnson loss is a bit overblown IMO. As far as Norman - there’s no doubt he has been bad the last few years. But you have to think that the the Bills scouting department and McDermott know know what they are doing. Also you have to take into account that he’ll be joining a veteran secondary and playing in scheme he knows well and has excelled in. Worst case scenario - he gets outplayed by Wallace and another CB and doesn’t make it through training camp. The Bills lose a few million that won’t come close to making or breaking their cap situation. Let’s see how this plays out

I am a fan of this one.
