I get it but that still doesn’t answer my question. Neither of them needs to make it IMO. If we are worried about short yardage or whatever I’d rather have Waddle in there or Teller or whomever. An OL is certainly a better blocking option. If the guy doesn’t provide anything in the passing game you should just run a 6th OL our there. Mark80
Good. I like all the current Bills and I always like to have one that I can hate on. Why not bring back an old favorite Mr. Smith to be that guy once again. Hughes just isn't getting enough dumb penalties lately to justify it anymore and Mills is gone. You are selling him WAY short. He is a big play penalty guy..........mostly 10 and 15 yarders. I have a feeling he will continue to work on his long snapping and hang around the NFL for another decade after teams finally have had enough of his exploits at TE.

Just Joshin'
Due diligence in case of injury - sure. Not a fan of signing - let the young TEs develop while Kroft holds the fort as the starter.
DrDawkinstein
Id lose some major faith in McBeane (yeah I said it) if they brought him back to the Bills. We know he's horrible. Give anyone a chance to prove themselves otherwise.

Mr. WEO
Historically bad TE. How did he stay in the league so long? This would be further chronic abuse by the Bills of the TE position. Edited May 10, 2019 by Mr. WEO

GreggTX
He's an excellent blocker or at least he was. I heard somewhere that Sweeney had great hands, so I'm guessing he goes to the PS. We know Kroft and Knox are almost certain to make the roster and Croom is decent depth. Fischer is strictly a blocker. If Smith signs, those TE positions will be hotly contested. Ethan in Cleveland
I would take Smith over Fisher and DiMarco. Smith might be a good influence on Sweeney who I think will be a PS guy unless Croom regresses

RichRiderBills
I dont recall him being that bad or epically bad. He certainly was not a star, but whatever. Most of you are way overreacting and being drama queens. Just a mediocre blocking TE that will fill out some depth and push teach some of the young guys. No issues with a modest deal. Punching Bag
Lee Smith is a lot more mobile than most guards/tackles and will be blocking down the field for WRs/RBs when most guards/tackles would be left behind. That is why you sign a TE like him rather than use an extra OL on play. The question is just like with FBs will he be on enough plays to warrent a roster slot? When he is targeted he usually catches the ball (56/66) with 7 TDs - not many guards/tackles can do that.
