As a Buffalo Bills fan I like the Jerod Mayo hire it sets the New England Patriots back 10 years 5 years with Mayo screws ups and another 5 years for the next coach to undue the damage. The hire is basically the opposite of Bill Belichick so basically the Patriots team are going to be a country club for lazy players to collect a NFL check and never win much good luck with that. So basically the Patriots are the New York Jets another country club for lazy players now in the AFC East in the basement. I think Patriots owner Robert Kraft, the Patriots fans and the sports media are going to find out fast it wasn’t mean old Bill Belichick that was the problem with the Patriots it was the lazy players who coasted off past Patriots success of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. Robert Kraft basically threw out Tom Brady and Bill Belichick who won 6 Super Bowls and completely cut them out of anything to do with the transition of the Patriots organization? Robert Kraft has gone senile if you ask me. Bills fans know how did that work out for the Bills when we changed Bills uniforms to Navy, excluded the 1990’s Bills from having much to do with the Bills. Remember the Gregg Williams and Tom Donahue years? It was a total failure and freak show excluding the Super Bowl Bills players from the organization. Weird, but this year is probably the best one for pulling the old Belichick Special - trading down to stockpile non-QB talent. The "rebuilding mode" is a lot quicker now than it used to be. Beane and McD tore it down pretty good and we were championship quality in a couple years. He's been somewhat led to believe that he would be next in line when Belichick left. So the coach in waiting was already there. It's true that they still could have went outside the organization and brought back fan favorite (and probably team favorite too) Mike Vrabel. But the elephant in the room would have been the look around the league that would have caused to bypass the in-house minority coach and candidate to bring in another coach. Whatever deal they had with Mayo or promises they made to sign him a couple of years ago to bring him in kind of boxed them in. I don't think they had any other choice that would have come back looking any good. Not saying that Mayo will not be a good coach but ideally I don't think he would have been their first choice without whatever agreement he had with them either in writing or verbal. Just my guess.
