You know who plays a lot of STs for the Bills….Jaquan Johnson. This will allow Johnson the opportunity to focus on safety while Marlowe provides depth and take his STs spot This could be a good point. I wondered how this would impact Johnson, but this angle I had not considered.
Punching Bag
4 hours ago, Beck Water said: When you put it that way, it sounds strange - but that's a strange way to put it. Marlowe was waived 2x in 2018. In 2019-2020 he was on the roster. He signed with the Lions, then the Falcons, in FA. So we let him walk in FA 2 years ago, then traded a 7th to get him back. Marlowe was waived to allow Bills to keep player on roster so he could be signed for IR. This has happened a couple of time the last few years. 3 hours ago, unbillievable said: Will they cut him when Poyer comes back? Feels like they're throwing away draft picks. Bills go from having the best safety tandem in the league to one of the worst in half a season. 😩 Fortunately the Bills do not worry about your touchy-feely impressions. Maybe you need to act it up and cry as well?

Punching Bag
Dean Marlowe played very well he needed to start for Poyer or Hyde one year but neither will be playing with him this time. I expect Dean Marlowe will be starting as safety until Poyer is able to play. Poyer was not put on IR, even short term, and Bills likely want Poyer for playoffs. Shame for Poyer since he was having a very good season.

Stuck on the roster nearly every season McDermott has been coach. He’s a McBeane Special, versatile, smart, team first kinda player. Knows the system very well, said to be able to help out a lot of younger/newer guys with learning the scheme. Plays all special teams and only played at safety here and there since Poyer and Hyde had been rather healthy up until this season. I recall Marlowe recovered the fumble caused by Justin Zimmer on Cam Newton when they played the Pats at home in 2020. I also just recently learned they added Zimmer to the practice squad a few weeks ago. I think he left after 2020 with an injury settlement. Can’t recall where or if he played in 2021 and now he’s back. It’s a smart trade for them considering Hyde is out and Poyer is really beat up this year. I would think Hamlin stays out there whether it’s Poyer or Marlowe next to him. Edited November 2, 2022 by blacklabel

One year both Hyde and Poyer were out at different times and each time Dean was inserted and defense continued to play well. Bills said they wanted to keep him but there cap issues. Hamlin and Marlowe will be sold safeties with Hamlin being the thumper and Marlowe being the flexible one.

Nitro
Good move to bring in a guy who knows the defense and personnel. He can play special teams and can be a veteran presence on the field and sideline for the young DBs. It is the only fact you have mentioned. Nothing else. So, by your own criteria, you would have to be opposed to having any DB on this team that ever gave up a hail mary pass. Facts do matter. If you are going to present one superficial stat, then be prepared to be called out on just how idiotic you sound. Even if it's still Johnson as the backup, he has pressure knowing that there's a trusted player behind him. Beyond this - he can possibly get a look as a 3rd safety in some of those looks we tried against KC with Kelce.
