Bills fans complaining about coaching...

According to Pro Football Reference, we've scored the 3rd most points of ANY team in the league!! 3rd guys, 3rd!

What the hell are any of you complaining about?!? What more do you want?!?

While I'm at it, we're #1 in points against and won back to back AFCE CHAMPS!

IMO,  any complainer(you know who you are) is a dumb@$$!; Again, JMO.

Phew, that felt good!

no one is complaining.  But, if you want a complaint, we should be the 1 seed.  Lots of those points came against bad teams.  This isn't a fantasy league where points scored and points allowed win you something.  We should have beaten Tenn, and Tampa, but in both games the Bills vanished at key times.  Oh, also should have beaten Jax.

Regardless of some of the key metrics out there, this team should be in a much better position right now especially given the current state of the AFC.

Also not to be a debbie downer, I get that we have some great defensive numbers but look at the type of QB's we've played this year in probably more than half of our games. This has to be some sort of record for the number of rookie QB/backups a team has faced over a full regular season schedule:

NE x 2

NYJ x 2

MIA (Brisset played pretty much the entire first game)

HOU

WAS

CAR

JAC

NO

Like I've said all along, McDermott and his staff have to be recognized for what they've done in 5 full years here. But it's not about getting to the playoffs anymore, it's about getting to SB's and winning championships and this is how we will ultimately determine how good a coach McD really is.

I have problems with Daboll abandoning the run and passing 23 (a lot of those were embarrassing passes too) times in a row like we were down 24-0 to the 07' Pats. He's had some mind boggling play calls this year. And just cuz people criticize doesn't mean they are trolls. It's part of being a fan.

Really?!? We did what we we're supposed to do with this schedule. Can't do much better than #1 in points allowed, can you?!? Bad Coach, bad Coach.

Actually, points scored and points allowed does win you something. An AFCE Championship. Go pee on someone else's snow.

Points scored against

Tenn - 31

TB - 27

KC - 38

NE - 33

I mean the only time we scored under 25 points was:

Jaguars

Colts

Pats (Windy game)

Steelers

We should be the #1 seed for sure, but the idea that we cant score points against good teams is false.

First: I like our coaching staff a lot. They certainly should not be fired. That's silly. They're one of the better coaching staffs in the league.

Second: It's okay to acknowledge the above while still critiquing personnel decisions, playcalls, strategies, and other decisions. Coaches are not infallible. Even the great Bill Belichick is not exempt from criticism.

Third: It's great that the Bills are AFC East champions and are hosting a playoff game. I'm excited. It's exciting. That said, the Bills SHOULD be the first or second seed. Instead of looking down the barrel of a matchup with the Pats at home and then a roadie at Arrowhead, they should be getting a week off and then hosting the Bengals or Raiders. The reasons they're NOT the first or second seed are open for debate, but coaching and player execution (which is not unrelated to coaching anyway) are at least partly to blame.

Fourth: I have the right, as a fan, to simultaneously be proud of our team and to like our staff and players, and to ALSO feel that we have wasted some precious opportunities this season and have made the playoff path much harder than it needed to be, and that those letdowns have sometimes been due to coaching and, at other times, due to poor play.

There's room here for optimism, pessimism, realism, and criticism. You are not czar of Two Bills Drive.

So you’re telling me that Daboll calls great game plans at home when we have winds of 50 mph +? Why is Isaiah McKenzie not been used all year until they were forced to. Why was sanders playing over Gabe Davis? Why is moss ever on the field? Why don’t they ever commit to getting singletary touches except 2 or 3 times this whole year. This team lost a lot of games to inferior teams because of coaching. But yes we are all happy they closed out the year as divisional winners but this team had the talent to be the clear #1 seed in a year where most of the top teams took a step back. If you want to tout their amazing defensive and offensive stats then why didn’t they win more games?

But what are the Bills supposed to do? Play teams not on the schedule. Even if you accept that they played a reasonably easy schedule of QBs you then look at the numbers and realise the defense was outstanding. They took full advantage. Not much more they can do.

1st in points against

1st in yards against

1st in fewest % of drives against ending in points

1st in yards per drive

1st in yards per play (and by a huge 0.4 yards per play.... the difference between the Bills in first and the Browns in second is the same as the difference between the Browns in 2nd and the Titans in 18th)

1st in 3rd down defense

1st in QB hurry %

1st in pressure %

1st in air yards given up (about 340 yards clear of 2nd place Chicago)

And that is just the firsts..... let's look where else they rank top 10:

6th in redzone defense (touchdowns only)

7th in sack percentage (ie. the percentage of passing attempts against where they sacked the opposing QB)

7th in % of drives against that ended in a turnover

8th in 4th down defense

9th in QB knock downs

I mean by modern standards that is pretty extraordinary. So yes, sure, they played some beatable competition. But they beat it handily on defense.

Much more to it than that too. We had a D that played some ridiculously good games. That helped the offense a ton. If the D was middle of the road the offensive stats would have been impacted by that and fallen. This offense did not play well for large stretches of games. They were very inconsistent. They get it right for the playoffs then this team is hard to beat.

What does this mean? Should we score 7 points each quarter? The goal is to score more than your opponent. Who cares if it comes in bunches or not.

Biggest thing to remember is most fans only analyze their own team. They aren't really comparing all the coaches and players in the league.

Bills coaches have flaws, but how are they compared to the league? That's how I try to analyze.

They have scored more points than any other AFC team and allowed fewer points than any other AFC team.  A season is an emotional roller coaster, so I understand fan frustration.  The Bills are a well coached team though.

Not sure this was such a great post you had to spin it off into it's own thread. But I'll reply with the same thing I did in the other thread...

Consistency.

Just because the total points scored is high, it doesnt say anything about the pace or deviation of how those points were put up.

This offense seems so feast or famine. We are either rolling, or putting on a clown show, no in between. A big part of that is bad game plans and play-calling and not allowing our O to play to its strengths or develop a rhythm.

Yay! We hung 40 and 43 on the likes of Houston and Washington, but couldnt muster 1 FG per Quarter to beat the Jags.

Great season, not taking that away. But there is always room for improvement. Especially when talking about the difference between a Playoff team and a Super Bowl Championship team.

Millennium Stockholm Syndrome victim believes the Goal is making the Playoffs! 🙄

NOOOOO... it is getting the #1 Seed, to get a bye, and play only 2 at Home games, before going to and winning the SB!

FUBARing the Steelers, Colts, and Cheatriots- AT HOME, let alone that impossibly embarrassing L at Jax, finished that off!

who you gonna call?

I mean, the first mistake here is taking anything said in the gameday thread seriously, or as a representation of "Bills Fans".

Emotions are high during the game. Passing statements made in frustration that you'd say to your buddy and then both move on, don't translate as well into forum posts. We've all bitched about stuff during games only to be proven wrong the next play and act like "I've always liked that guy!". It's part of the fun of gameday.

The gameday threads close immediately for a reason. Leave them behind.

I really hope the Bills make a sound decision regarding the punting game. Better believe that Belichick sees this as a weakness and will scheme some type of opportunity to exploit it

Like having K Neal Harry return punts for the first time all season in the windiest game in a decade?  Gave Mckenzie another shot.  I think Stevenson is better at fielding the kick.  If a punt returner isnt going to catch it in the air give me Hyde deep.

It should be Hyde back for all kicks now that we are in the playoffs. He has the best hands and the best decision making. I dont care about the other guys' speed. Can't have costly mistakes on STs in the playoffs.

I've been supporting McKenzie since his initial benching.  But at this point, I have to agree with you.  Kid's got the yips and now is not the time to let him play through it.

My problem with coaching yesterday was them continuing to prance Matt Haack out there to punt. I’d rather them prance Stevenson out there and having Josh throw up a deep 50/50 type pass. Probably had better results 😎

Leave Josh out there and have him pooch punt it. Could not have been worse than Haack yesterday.

Even Hyde said in the postgame that the wind was as bad as the first NE game, and the ball moves a lot while in the air, and he was not about to catch it on the fly. He even said "I was not about that life today" to use the parlance of our times.

Which to me, directly illustrates the better decision making and situational awareness he brings over McKenzie and Stevenson. Both of which feel the need to catch it and make a return in order to "prove themselves". Clouds their decision making, when the best play is to let it bounce and make sure no other Bills touch it.
