Grading beyond the stats tonight...

On a Sunday Night Football game, where all sorts of records and trends showed that we were not supposed to win this game, Josh Allen helped overcome various obstacles, stayed poised, and lead this team to a W.

He had one bad throw that Chris Colinsworth just picked apart, and yet there were many bad drops that could have extended drives.

The INT was off Coleʻs hands. Was it high? Sure. Was it catchable? Sure.

Fumbles from Devin, Duck throwing prayers and having them answered... none of that seemed to rattle Josh.

He was a man on a mission and tonight it was mission accomplished.

We are in the playoffs bay bayyyyyyyy!

Yeah I would go around the C to C+

But I give him respect he’s got a real knack for making the plays in the 4th and sometimes that’s all that matters.
He is literally his own worst enemy almost every game. If he ever gets a grip on that footwork and the easier throws his game will go to a whole new level

C+/B-

Positives: Clutch, never rattled on a big stage and overcame poor plays around him.

Negatives:  A couple inaccurate throws and a coaching game-plan that took the ball out of his hands.

A-

When it mattered most, Allen came through big.

With this offense and considering where Allen is in his development the stats mean nothing.

Two drives earned him the A-.

1)  After the bad punt we faced 3rd & 20 and Allen gained 12 yards on a nice run.  Then on 4th & 8 he had a perfect throw to Brown for the 1st down.  That kept the drive alive and we got a TD.

2)  After tying the game Allen had 2 fantastic throws midway through the 4th quarter to take the Bills 70 yards for the winning TD.

Playing on the road against an elite D is not going to boost your stats.  What matters is what happens at key moments in the game.  And again, Allen came through.

He now has 27 total TD's and 13 total TO's.  That's really good.  And those are the numbers that matter.  Yardage, not so much.

Just now, KD in CA said:

That's crazy.  The defense gets an A.  Allen gets a C+.

The pick was all on him and wasn't his only bad throw of the night.  Brown saved him on back to back deep throws, once catching it and once preventing a pick.

Brown did what most WRs in the NFL do for their QB.  You’re just not used to seeing it.

The pick was 90% on Beasley.

I'll go B-

Drops by the WR's early were really bad. Yes, high ball to Beasley but that's a ball that many WR's catch. Receivers need to make plays for their QB.

Did enough to win. Looked pretty effective at times.

The pick wasn't all on Allen.  I would say it was 75% on Beasley and 25% on Allen.  Was the ball thrown high?  Yes.  But so what.  That pass is caught most of the time in the NFL.  I like Beasley and think he's been a great addition to the Bills but size matters and in some situations we just have to live with the disadvantage that his size brings.

B+.  That’s one helluva D he went up against tonight, just after playing Balt’s D.  He played well.  More consistency is needed

Exactly. After getting his ass handed to him vs. Baltimore,  you have to wonder how he would respond. He made the plays he needed to make on a national stage against one of the best defenses in the game. Solid B+.

I disagree 100%

*  First off that was a brilliant back shoulder throw by Allen.  Mahomes & Rogers hit that pass all the time.  You do realize that the Steelers DB was called for PI on that play right?  That's what a great back shoulder throw does - catch it for a big gain or draw a PI.

*  Brown didn't really prevent a pick on that throw.  That was the moron Collingsworth trying to claim that the throw was almost intercepted.  Watch a replay and the DB would have had to make a spectacular play to INT that ball.  It was a good 50/50 ball by Allen and Brown did a nice job fighting for it and preventing any chance for an INT.  Pretty routine play by an NFL WR.

That POS Collinsworth was unbelievably negative about Allen.  That "almost interception" was a perfect example of it.

I'll give him a B given the circumstances, playing a great D on the road in his very first night primetime game and the stakes being high.  Normally with the raw numbers he put up the grade would be a C at best. But the QBR grading system thought he did well giving him a 59 QBR. Only a 65 QB rating that was surely dragged down a lot by the INT that still could have possibly been caught by Beasley, or easily caught by any WR 6'0" tall.

I think we do need to take notice to what the Ravens are doing with Jackson and find ourselves more large targets for Allen in the off-season. Let's not forget Brady had Gronk for all those years too.

My opinion Is if anyone thinks Allen should get a A for that performance

something is wrong with you.

139 passing yards for a NFL QB is just not good enough. This is not

acceptable for a NFL QB. We are lucky the Pittsburgh QB was worse.

Would you want 300 yards in a loss? Cowboys fan I assume?

I gave him a C+/B-, but you’re being a bit disingenuous tbh.

Two things against him:

1) Multiple drops

2) Coaching staff went next level conservative for most of the game

Dude, the guy is in his second year on a ground-up rebuild against a team that won 7 of its last 8 with a kick-your-ass defense. He took what was given to him. He made the big throws that needed to be made. He threw for a TD and ran for a TD. AGAIN.

I suspect you're one of those guys who thinks the problem with Josh Allen is he hasn't had a 300 yard game.

C'mon. Admit it.

I would agree that Brown saved him on the second one .. but the first .. that is exactly where you want that placed. Brady makes that throw all the time and people say it was a smart throw. Have the receiver come back and the DB is in a horrible position. As for the Cole Beasley pass .. yes it was a bit high .. but excellent receivers make these all the time. The problem is we have very good receivers, but not an excellent reciever who will make the really hard catch.

He was pretty average but ya gotta take degree of difficulty into consideration here.

-in Heinz field. Prime time game

-arguably hottest d in nfl

-wr’s once again dropping balls

-the guy in this thread putting the INT on Allen is a douche.

the dude did it in the 4th quarter AGAIN.... A “C” that I’m putting on a curve to a “B-“

It’s frustrating when people won’t acknowledge Allen being an absolute monster rushing for TDs.

Most QBs have to hand off or throw for TDs, even one yard out.  That allows the defense to have a free man to move around.

Against us, you have to account for the QB, and even then, the dude just runs people over for scores.
