Did Vontae Davis retire at halftime? Yes, yes he did!

This team is on the verge of becoming a circus. Peterman benched game one, Leslie Fraser getting benched in game two, Davis quitting the team in the middle of a game. At some point you have to look at the man in charge. This is a pivotal moment for McD.

And I think the circus has pretty much shut down.

Even though this is crazy town bizarro, it could actually end up having a positive impact on the team - give something to rally around - we aren't quitters etc

Fraser was benched?  MCD's D looked okay today.   And the D was much better in the 2nd half without Davis.  Perhaps Davis was told he wouldn't be starting the 2nd half, and he threw a temper tantrum--even though he had an okay-good 1st half.

McD flat out said he took over defensive playcalling after halftime.

That means that he basically told Frazier "go make paper airplanes, I'm handling this"

Davis also did not have a "okay-good 1st half"

He had his play calling duties revoked by the HC. What would you call it? D looked better because McD is a solid DC and our offense finally showed a little life on the TD drive early in the 3rd which gave them hope. Either way, it's not a good look when your coach has to do that. The fact he made that change coupled with the Peterman backfire so early in the season suggests there might be issues with his decision making when it comes to who to trust. Davis quitting is ridiculous and shows they probably didn't do their homework on the guy.

McD just said he pulled himself out of the game.

"Was he injured?"

McD: "No."

End of questioning from the brilliant WNY press corps.

What else needed to be asked ? Seriously, have you ever heard McDermott answer a question about anything of a sensitive nature? His answers aren’t worth printing.

Literally never heard of this in over 50 years of football fandom.

Obviously, Davis needs to be shown the door, officially.

And I want Allen, not Kyle or Lorax or another aging vet in a "leadership role, nor any coach, to get up in front of that room and let everyone know in no uncertain terms that, for good or ill, this is our team. And if you don't want to be on our team, then get the F out of here right now and quit wasting everyone else's time.

Gotta come from Josh Allen. It's never too early to make the team his.

The calls to fire McBeane continue as if they're frickin' fortune tellers and could see into the future that Vontae Davis wouldn't quit on them. He was signed on a one-year deal to see if he could get back to his earlier form and more likely, to provide a veteran presence in the DB room. Last week he was a healthy scratch and was upset about it. My guess, he missed some major assignments or just flat out played poorly and was told someone else would be taking his place in the second half. He disagreed, got PO'ed and quit. Yeah it's weird but it's clear that the guy didn't have it anymore and I wouldn't have been surprised if he had been cut sometime during the season anyway.

Keep crying for constant house cleanings and you'll ensure that this team never becomes a contender. It takes time. It's a complete rebuild. 2018 is about building a young foundation for this team, giving them a season's worth of experience. They're eating dead cap because of deals made by former regimes. For years they've done these "soft rebuilds" or a "reset/recharge" and it kept them stuck in mediocrity. At a certain point, you gotta tear it all down and start over. And you can't fix it all in one season. If you wanna make an omelette, you gotta break a few eggs.

well good then.  The second half was much better defensively.  Perhaps Davis was upset that Frazier had the play calling duties yanked.

Didn't Davis force a fumble in the 1st half?  And the TD on him was a perfectly thrown ball by Rivers.

Your throwing a bunch of stuff at the wall hoping something sticks.  Peterman played MUCH better in preseason than Allen.  He started game 1.  When it was clear that he is a preseason/practice player, he switched to Allen.  That's called GOOD decision making.  The D was better in the second half because McD took-over play calling.  Good, that's leadership, and the D was better as a result.  Davis quitting has nothing to do with this.  Read Davis' twitter.  Also, Bean, not McD got Davis.  And Davis was terrible in preseason and perhaps told he wasn't starting the 2nd half.  The anti-McD narrative is hilarious.   This is a rebuilding year.
