Did Vontae Davis retire at halftime? Yes, yes he did!

Well, if he's retiring, we ought to thank him because he won't have to be paid (and can the Bills claw back any signing bonus money?).  So I'm expecting a kind of "umm, I didn't really retire" thing tomorrow, as soon as he talks to his agent.

And they'll put him on the "reserve/left squad" list and not pay him anyway.

Did not say I bought the reason.  I said he had on and he did not quit in the game.   huge difference.

I don't care about the rumors either.

I think Boldin quit on McBeane after he saw what was happening in person.  Not a good look.

P.S. If I came across as a little strong in my reply to your earlier post, I did not mean to and I apologize.

Yep 4M dead cap no matter what retired or cut.

I think that's right, thinking back to Eric Wood.  Who would've thought bringing in a 29 year old DT and and 30 year old CB coming off a major injury could turn out bad?

EDIT: while also making a 20 year old raw athlete our defensive signal caller.

He did not communicate a thing to the coaches because McD said after the game that  "he took himself out"  McD did not know why.

I would criticize him all day long for quitting.  Even if he did not want to play for whatever reason why not come out and be with the team?  If he is injured that is one thing but if he was injured McD did not know about it.

Oh boy...

It is a good thing that McBeane are getting rid of the "bad contracts."

McD says he wishes he had a better answer but doesn’t know what will happen

I suck a linking twitter, on your original link one of the first posts is KW talking about it.

It's pretty crazy.

paraphrase:

reporter - "will he be welcome back?"

KW - "Well that depends on the situation and exactly what happened"

(not exact quote)

translation: KW - "I've been on some TERRIBLE teams in my time here, and I have NEVER quit during a game, or quit on this team. If that little punk thinks he's coming back here after that stunt he better have a damn good explanation. I'm talking some world changing sh*t. Like his mom, dog, cat, and goldfish just died all at the same time and he found out at halftime. Otherwise, he isn't even welcome in the city limits"

I kinda wish more Bills players would do that. Kind of a self-cleansing.

If you voluntarily retire I would doubt you get that money.

I wonder if he and his agent are going to say that this is injury related and not use the "retired" word.

That's not right.  His signing bonus, roster bonus, and workout bonus are paid out.  His salary is guaranteed...but I can't find out if that guarantee holds if a player retires 1.5 games in to the season.  And even if it does, that doesn't add up to all $5M.  More like $4M and change.

Considering Kyle Williams came back on what was looking to be a rough year I'd say he might be miffed at the guy.

Not sure.

Did 'cog keep his $$?

I know Wood did, but I think that was the Bills' brass just doing right by him.

I'm not sure about the Davis situation.

You told him what?

That Davis was going to walk out on the team AND the NFL at halftime of the Chargers game?

I find that hard to believe.

I know but didn’t want to say that in case it was a secret ?

Cats out of the bag now.

The only thing I've heard is the bills are open to trades for many players. I'd heard McCoy was inquired about, fwiw.
