Draft, Here’s What’s Going to Happen

Recommended Posts

Beane traded away 150 targets under contract, and he has a plan.

The Bills will draft a WR with their first pick.

The Bills will pick a WR at 1.28, or move up to pick a WR.

They are not trading back to draft a WR. So they aren’t trading back.

What Beane does with picks in 4th and 5th rounds is how this draft will be remembered. Whatever Beane decides to do with these picks, they will have a MAJOR impact on this team for years to come.

Pick #60 can be BPA for DLine and defensive backfield.

Two more WRs picks in R4 and R5.

Hopefully he can trade a few of those picks to get a 3rd round pick.

Here's what's really going to happen.   Beane is going to sit on his hands because he doesn't want to waste his precious draft capital.  Meanwhile, the Chiefs are going to trade up in front of the Bills and take the last WR that they had a 1st round grade on.   Then the bills will draft a DB at pick 28 and subsequently cause a 4.8 magnitude earthquake in WNY from the collective heads of Bills Mafia exploding.

What I'm hoping is that a WRer that is at the top of the Bills Draft Board is available to Beane either at 28 or 60 or at a move-up draft position that does not cost them a No. 2 pick. What I don't want is for Beane to reach for a WRer in rounds one and two, just to appease the knuckleheads that are WRer or Bust.

Here's what's going to happen.

Be it at 28 or not the Bills will draft a player. No matter who that player is the board will instantly erupt into a giant cesspool of complaints. Be it it's the "wrong guy", wrong position" or just not the guy each person wanted individually.

There will be a thread started to announce the pick where many people will wax poetic about why it's a terrible pick and how we could have drafted a different guy, one they personally liked better most likely. This will continue and play out after every pick the Bills make.

There will be a few optimistic posters on each guy, but these threads aren't the place for optimism so those posters will be attacked.

Slowly the gnashing of teeth will turn into a "we'll see" attitude on some players. We'll hear all about how "McDermott influenced that pick" after any defensive player is taken and that "McDermott won't play rookies" after any offensive selection.

*BONUS- Next season anytime any rookie in this draft class has a nice game there will be immediate threads started about them saying we chose the wrong guy.

This will all play out for the 2025 draft as well.

I tend to think there are 3 groups. The 3rd can be seen below:

Cooper DeJean could be our pick, did you see Beane light up when asked about him in his presser? He immediately grabbed his water and also referred to meeting him as 'a joy'. He looked like he was trying to hide excitement. Hard to pick a S/CB in the first but if he is an Ed Reed then I'm all for it. Great returner

Einstein's Dog moves (which if Beane is smart will be his):

1.  Trade low draft pick for vet WR- Dhop/Metcalf/Godwin type.  Top choice DHop early w so Tenn at pick 7 goes WR.

2.  trade back out of round 1 for extra pick.  With early pick get one of the second tier WRs - McConkey/Franklin/Legette/Coleman

3. remaining draft DL, S

4.  get a good value on a vet RB, wait it out.  Maybe Zeke.

5.  get a vet S.  If not Simmons then bring back Hyde to mentor draft pick.

That provides the team with enough talent to contend.  Not much you can do about the lack of pass rush but hope on Von and a draft pick.

Here’s what will happen then.  This board goes into full panic mode and insists all Friday that Beane must be planning to trade up in the 2nd to get our guy at WR.  We land someone decent and board instantly is put at ease, calling Beane a wizard.

Wrong. He's going to sit on his hands so they go numb and it feels like someone else. We've all done it

Beane will trade 2025 1st and our 2nd to Seattle for no. 16 and DK Metcalf.  He will then trade back from 16 to 23 ( after Minny trades 11 and 23 for J.J.).

AZ. will get no.16/144.  The Bills will get 23 / 35 and 71.   Latu / Legette / Sweat (60) and Walker.

WR room:

DK

Legette

Samuel

Shakir

Walker

Hollins

Shorter would make 7 and they have kept 7 before.

You forgot about the part where he gives up a fourth rounder to move up to take that DB.

Here’s what will happen :

Bean will disappoint us and we will envy Kansas City’s draft. Then two years from now we will have solid starters who we love,  and kc’s injury riddled trade up pick will be a non factor.

I don’t think a huge trade-up is in play, but Beane always moves up a couple of slots to get his guy.

I think if Thomas jr last until the last teens he’ll try to trade up. Otherwise sit and hope Mitchell lasts to 28. Ladd is an option at 28 but drafting him would require a 2nd one being drafted quicker.

28 ladd

45 (trade from 60 using a later pick and/or maybe a 2025 3rd): Franklin, Legette, coleman - whomever last. If all gone, pick Walker or baker at 60 or with a slight trade down form 60.

The Diggs trade certainly increased the chances we will draft a WR in the first round, but it doesn't guarantee it. After the top three WRs-- Harrison, Nabers, Odunze-- who are almost certainly out of reach, there are quite a few WRs who, while perhaps graded as a first round pick, will be available in the second round.

Wide receiver is a glaring need for the Bills, presently. But it's not the only glaring need. If a DE, or CB who Beane has graded higher than the available WRs in the first falls to them, don't be surprised when Beane takes them.

I've accepted the notion that the Bills won't take a WR until the 2nd round or later. There's probably going to be a starting-caliber center there at 28 who will be Allen's reliable big ugly in the middle for the next 10 years.

The Bills have the culture and coaches in place to mold young OLmen right now. McD fired Dorsey last season because he wanted to get back to more complimentary football, which he then found with Joe Brady and the renewed running game. They'll continue that trend in this draft.

I think they'll then grab the best WR on their board in the 2nd. That guy will probably still have an elite trait like speed or size, which they can develop into a good starter or "matchup problem" (as a term we've heard recently). This is a deep WR class, so Beane is confident they get two offensive players who will contribute from day one.

I think a modest trade up is entirely possible for the Bills to snag Brian Thomas Jr.  If They don't do that because Thomas gets drafted earlier than Beane is hoping for, I think the odds of Buffalo standing pat go down a bit because of health questions surrounding Adonai Mitchell (Type 1 diabetes report).  It's not impossible that they stay at #28 and draft Mitchell or some other WR if the Bills are higher on that player than many of the pundits out there think If the Bills don't trade up, stand pat at #28 and draft a receiver other than Mitchel, I think the guy they get is Legette.
