LABILLBACKER
This is one opponent I'd definitely go on offense immediately and get points on the board. Our last 2 games they scored immediately and it dictated momentum. If we had a healthy Milano, Von, Jones & White I'd defer and try to double dip.
buffblue
With our tendency of starting off slowly on defense I would take the ball if given the opportunity. The game is going to come down to the Bills scoring plenty of points anyway, so might as well try to get into an early rhythm and take the lead.
Miyagi-Do Karate
Cover 1 guys had an interesting take on this. Cincy is built to be a front runner and get out ahead. If we get out to like a 10-point lead, they could be in trouble.
dakrider
Its great to see the Bills as the underdog, they do poorly as big favorites. Bills defense need to keep Mixon in check, most the games he does well they do well.

Shortchaz
I’m not sure what actual impact it has but the crowd noise to start the game is probably a factor. I would think putting your offense/their defense out to start the game gives them some advantage. Of course if you can drive right down the field, regardless, that would be great. not sure it matters.
SinceThe70s
Pretty sure the Bills usually defer and I've read that the Bengals like to receive. If so, given the choice I wouldn't receive just to keep the Bengals from getting what they want - go out and make a stop on the first possession

Chaos
The team that kicks off in the second half has a slightly better chance to have the ball last in the game. I want to kick off the second half to get this slightly better chance.

GunnerBill
Just now, Shortchaz said: I’m guessing we got a 50% chance this game. Yea. We have a 50% chance every week. But we have definitely won fewer than 50% over the past two years. I'll put my money on losing the toss in this roulette game.
Special K
If the Bills D was at full strength, I would always defer regardless of the opponent. With the D after the injuries, I would seriously consider taking the ball first against teams with good offenses.
Nephilim17
Defer always. But the Bills should "differ" from their last performance and plan vs. Cincy. 2
Virgil
Always defer. Any momentum you hope to get early can easily be nullified by the two possession swing at half. It’s a 60 minute game, not first score wins 2 1

mannc
It’s very important (for both teams) not to get behind early…I predict that whichever team wins the toss will elect to receive the opening kickoff. I really hope the Bills do this. 7 minutes ago, Heavy Kevi said: Always Defer. Always. Says who?

Repulsif
Here I would receive If for some reason, the Bengals score, Bills get stopped early, and then Bengals score again in the next drive, it could already be a rough day 10 minutes in
Gugny
Their performance should differ from the last time they played the Bengals. I use the word “played” lucely.

ProcessTruster
doesn't really matter. Unless we "spread 'em out and light em up" when we have the ball , who gets which kick ain't gonna matter
billsfan89
I am always a defer person as no matter what you are always going to want the ball to start the second half. If you are up you want to start the half with a chance to build your lead. If you are down you want the chance to cut down the deficit to start the half.
Capco
What about which side of the field to take? If wind is going to be a factor, it might be better to have it at our backs at key times.
AuntieEm
I rather the team just play solid on bothe offense and defense and not have to have any last minute strategy other than when tò sit starters with a comfortable lead.

Doc Brown
There's always been a slight advantage to deferring as teams that do win 51 to 52% of the time depending on what longitudinal study you look at. It's why you see most teams defer to get the double dip opportunity which can swing momentum. I think of the Bills/Colts WC game a few years back as the perfect example.
