QB Sneak Specialist

Is it worth a roster spot? Hell yes it is. Especially if you think Josh just can't execute it, which until the Titans game he did nearly to perfection. Since that point we barely have run it. Watching the Eagles do this all year and in this game. Such a huge advantage to be guaranteed 3rd/4th and 1.

Look at the Eagles o line.  Now look at the Bills o line. That's the answer

I don't think it's that straight forward. With the right execution, practice, and technique. You just can't stop it. Not with assisting the runner. I expect every team in the NFL to go this path. That yard is worth a couple of wins a year.

I'm pretty sure that statistically allen is one of the best in the league at this lol

We used to run it with Josh at some of the highest and most successful rates in the league. Post Titans, we haven't run it much at all. We started again this year a little more with the runner assist, but post Minnesota game I don't believe we ran it one time. Given our clear history of running it, then basically stopping all together after "events" two years in a row, my thought was Allen had the yips. Perhaps that isn't the case. Could be one of many things.

Having said this, we certainly never coached the submarine style line blocking the Eagles do. Nor the level of runner assist the Eagles use. We basically had one WR pushing. You can tell, the Eagles practice that all the time. I feel if practiced all the time it is basically unstoppable. I wouldn't be surprised if the NFL puts in a rule to take that play out. It's a cheat code as it stands right now.

Hurts squats 600 pounds aka 2 defensive linemen. Josh squats zero pounds because he says he doesn't do squats and doesn't lift much if ever.

I would think college teams have tons of potential options. Mobile or physically strong guys who just will never make it throwing.

This might be the dumbest thread I've seen so far this year.

How is a sneak specialist worth a roster spot? Hurts is the Eagles starting QB and not eating up an extra roster spot to be a 3rd/4th and short specialist. You're not even making an argument here.

FWIW the Bills offense were the best in the league at 3rd down conversions this year.

Remember when the Bills kept a kickoff specialist?

And he couldn’t even get it out of the end zone reliably?

Eagles proficiency is entirely in their o line technique. I don’t see any other team drive block so low on sneaks. It’s crazy.

Yup, they use a different technique than any other team. Then they have an insanely strong runner as well. Same as Josh, but again, we keep choosing to not run it after horrible things happen. Two straight years now.

I think you’re extremely short sited if you think it’s not worth a roster spot for a guaranteed first down on anything within a yard. Show me the stats of us being the best in the league on 3rd or 4th and 1.

And you know this ? I’m thinking Josh could run that sneak play rather effectively with the way the Eagles do it.. Hurts has very little to do with it. On the one play he was clearly short and momentum was stopped.. but was further pushed by his team. Momentum and the zero clock have suddenly become calls that the new NFL reffing rules have somehow decided to not call correctly

I agree being able to get 1 yard on demand is hugely tactically important.

But the "roster spot" shouldn't go to the ball carrier.  How about to a monster center to plow the path for the ball carrier. Get some nose guard in here and teach him to snap the ball.  Some guy who's ass is bigger than my body.

I'm talking 360 lbs to begin with, in like a 6'2" frame.

OK!  Here is the guy who is going to get the roster spot.

Tom Stoltman...a world's strongest man competitor from Scotland.

He's 6'8" and 408 lbs.

He squats 761 pounds and can dead lift 790 pounds.

Teach him to snap the ball, and then move anything in front of him backward.

Josh comes up from behind and stretches him arms out and that's at least 2 or 3 yards right there.

a poster in the game day thread yesterday called the sneak play Sexy. 😁

You can take that sarcastically or take it like I did.....Heck Yeah, the BIG Bodies  playing smash mouth football,  guys up in other guys butts the big PUSH.

I dont think you necessairily need a specialist to be the guy with the ball in those circumstances.  I certainly don't think that Josh Allen will want to shirk those plays off in any case.

Or if you want to remove he from the equation you put in a D Lineman and he better hang on to the danged ball. It is not his usual forte.

Breaking news: Josh is weak lol cmon bruh

Sounds like you don't listen to Kyle Brandt's Basement where Josh literally said he doesn't work out and doesn't do squats. That's all I'm saying. Jalen Hurts is a known workout freak. He squats more than his OL

You know how it goes……these kids see something during a game that works for 1 team and think we need that as well…….prisoners of the moment!

And it shows, he has a pooch gut.

You're onto something I've picked up on as well, from that show.

I didn't hear Allen say he never works out, but he has talked about how when he works with Jordan Palmer, he is constantly trying to joke around, where as Burrow is all business.

From that point on I started wondering about his weightroom training.

He didn't get asked much in the way of off-season training at his last 2022 press conference, just if he was going to work with Palmer.

Josh stayed in Buffalo last summer as he was building and moving into his house. He was in California the next day after locker clean out this year so not sure if he is staying there or coming back. I think he needs to refocus this off-season. Less golf, more football. He had his breakout year during COVID because he was in lockdown with Palmer and Darnold and Kyle Allen and literally couldn't do anything else but football

Jalen hurts has really strong legs too, so even if you get to him at the LOS and stand him up... there's a good chance he can drive forward against anyone on the defense.

Do you remember what episode of the Brandt podcast he said that in?
