GunnerBill
He is awful. The numbers from this year flatter him. Reich couldn't fix him he could just cover him his terrible play better than Pederson. But Wentz is not a culture guy, not a leader (remember the Philly players preferred Foles) and just a bad Quarterback. 1
Sierra Foothills
Frank Reich is as steadfast and loyal a person as can be. He was a staunch and vocal supporter of Wentz... his one true believer. To me this borders on shocking. 1
Rc2catch
I can’t knock Indy for trying. They have a Super Bowl roster and have to keep playing musical chairs at quarterback trying to find someone who can just not lose the games for them.
947
I just pray they don't end up with Rodgers. I'm not sure if that's even a possibility with their cap situation, but a scary thought. If/when Trubisky leaves, I think Wentz could be a decent option as Josh's backup. I'd much rather have him than Dalton or Tyrod...

davefan66
Not surprising they want to get rid of him. What is surprising is the money. Wonder how bad it is over the next few years money wise to get rid of him. Leaves them with Sam Ehlinger? Their first pick this draft is number 47 because of the first they gave up for Wentz. Not sure what their plans are.
BADOLBILZ
The Colts had done a good job of building a talented roster thru the draft and FA.........and being super efficient with their cap......they didn't dump a ton of cap money on dud UFA's like Beane did too often......the QB situation has totally undermined them. Hopefully their struggles continue. 2 1

Punching Bag
Frank Reich is not the GM so he will not make the decision but I am sure he had input into him being let go just as he had input to him being traded for. This issue is "Due to Wentz's attitude or abilities?" With a decent QB Whisperer is he salvageable even or does he needs to be 2nd or 3rd QB for a while learning? Big Turk
Trade him for what? The Colts would have to give the other team something to take Wentz at that contract. Colts have a good roster and HC held back by the QB position. I am curious which cast off QB will be used as a bridge by Reich

GM Chris Ballard seemed to sum it up pretty well at the end of the season he basically they didn’t have many options at QB so trading for Wentz was worth a shot. On-topic, is Gardner Minshew a fit? Certainly limited physically, but can manage a game, isn't prone to blunders that end your season. Obviously, not an ideal QB, may not be their SB QB, but with that nucleus of a team, Minshew may get them to 11 wins.
Process
Has to be one of the worst trades ever. Trade a first round pick for a QB with an absurd contract, miss the playoffs, cut him after 1 year. What were they thinking? 3

mushypeaches
I mean the owner basically called them out at the end of the year for not making the playoffs. Betting that this is pretty much a mandate from the top to find a better QB no matter what the sunk costs are.

Obviously, not an ideal QB, may not be their SB QB, but with that nucleus of a team, Minshew may get them to 11 wins. So I think the ideal fit is Garoppolo but they just don't have any more capital to trade away for Quarterbacks. So they probably are looking at a free agent like a Minshew or a Trubisky or a Bridgewater. They are in a really tough spot. They are the most QB purgatory team in the entire league, because they have a good coach, a good GM who drafts well and a good roster. They are not going to be drafting in the top 5 any time soon. It goes back to poor strategic decisions made in 2020 IMO. Frank wanted Rivers and the owner and GM gave him Rivers. They should have said "no" we have the 13th pick in the draft, let's see what we need to give to the Lions for #3 where they'd have had their pick of Tua (hasn't worked out so far) or Herbert (has). Instead they said "we can win this year with Phil" gave the 13th pick to the 49ers for DeForest Buckner, made the playoffs, Phil retires and then there they sit with no Quarterback and no shot to get up from where they were to get one in a decent class. Then they end up panicking and overpaying for Wentz. Before the Wentz decisions none of the other were bad decisions in isolation. But they were all good tactical decisions that added up made for a bad strategy. Knowing the difference between the two is critical.
Buddo
If they want a QB, they could do a lot worse than Trubisky. He would have a genuine chance to be the starter, and could be relatively cheap. You would think that Reich would be a good guy to continue his career with, and it gives them a better shot. With Taylor at RB, they don't need a world beating QB, they just need a competent one.

Brand J
It is pretty shocking the Colts would trade a first round pick for a struggling QB who was benched on his previous team. Regardless of Reich’s relationship with him, why not sign Trubisky to a one year prove it deal and keep your first rounder? Trubisky said he came to Buffalo due to a lack of opportunity as a starter elsewhere. That was a shockingly bad move by Colts GM. Almost as shocking as the Bills getting pwned in that game.
