Report: NFL covered up key Deflategate evidence that favored Patriots

Recommended Posts

Not that this is something new.

Florio shared two notable pieces of reporting from the Deflategate saga that began after the 2014 AFC Championship Game, when ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported that 11 of the Patriots' 12 game footballs were underinflated by at least two pounds each.

Man, every day it's something in today's NFL. An owner or coach being accused of some bad behavior. A player (or a few) being arrested. Getting harder and harder to support. If we didn't have Josh Allen and were finally a real contender I'm not sure I'd even watch anymore.

Way too often NFL Network turns into the nightly news with stories of lawsuits and legal battles. Arrests. Scandal. COVID, Vaccination...It's Hard Copy now because of those that play in and run the NFL.

The NFL is as shady as every other business. Sports really are just meaningless entertainment though, so nobody cares.

The Covid scam was the best though. Not a single player missed a playoff game with Covid. It magically disappeared and all the government officials making kids wear masks showed up at the NFC title game with no masks. If there was a league of liars, the Superbowl of lying would be between the NFL and State of California Goverment. 😂

It seems the Pats*** are the only team getting away with obvious cheating

The real story with Deflategate was the fumbles, or the lack of fumbles for the Patriots over many years by several standard deviations lower than the 2nd lowest team. Deflated balls are harder to fumble.

People should care. It's a great example of how effective the Pats were at cheating for years. These things add up.

Goodell was just being vindictive after Brady destroyed the cell phone and gave the commiss ***** in the media after everything the shield had done for NE during spygate.

This.

We are on the outside and will never know what really happened, but I really think you have to consider spygate when you talk about the NFL reaction to deflategate.  Remember also that Goodell is often the personification of the owners.  I'm sure there were a ton of owners who kept it quiet, but were furious at Kraft and the Patriots over spygate.  They bit their tongues a little because, if it is bad for the shield, then it actually is bad for them.  Proof that the Pats cheated in Superbowls would definitely hurt the shield.  So, the tape evidence is destroyed on the spot and the owners go along....but they must have been seething.  Especially the ones that felt that their team may have been robbed by the Pats cheating.

Then, deflategate comes (more Pats cheating) and they are in no mood to be forgiving.  I bet Goodell had no choice but to come down hard.

Bill Belichick is the Richard Nixon of the NFL.  Didn’t need to cheat but did anyway

Of Course They Did, because the NFL also covered up and destroyed evidence that incriminated the Patriots during Spygate

Deflategate was Payback All the Way

Never mind the text messages between Brady and the equipment manager which showed evidence that the equipment manager was the one who stole the footballs and deflated them before the games, then quickly but them back before anyone saw a thing.

I don't understand how people can feel good winning at something if they cheated.

When you saw the Patriots celebrate after winning any of the Super Bowls, they weren't celebrating the championships. They were just happy that they didn't get caught this time.

The NFL (which is the owners group) IS A COMPLETE JOKE. The Game is fun to watch but the organization that is the “ owners/league” are a bunch of money grubbing/worshiping walking character flaws, it’s the dumb & dumber gang,  “Ready, Fire, Aim,” that should be their motto.

As much as I hated New England at the time, it just seemed like a silly thing to freak out over.

So the balls are a little deflated... Just seemed weak, although I did enjoy their misery. Of course, like always, Brady and Co. got over on everyone by beating Seattle in the Super Bowl that year so there is that.

Bills and Jets complained about NE deflating footballs for 4 years before they were officially "caught".  NFL is a joke and needs a total clean-up to get rid of the corruption.

There’s no corruption in the NFL  Humans are innately good.  Didn’t you know that?  They don’t ever cheat or bend the rules. Stop being so dramatic.

Deflate Gate was a makeup call for Spygate and all the other nonsense they had gotten away with over the years. Remember how everyone's headset stopped working at key moments in the playoffs? I'm guessing a lot of that was the inmates running the asylum but there was a reason the majority of the owners wanted action from the league after they found out about the football pressure.

The Pats earned all of it.

The Patriots created a mystique, a sort of psychological warfare that had teams and players looking over their shoulders expecting the boogeyman at every turn. Walking into Gillette in a playoff game was like being left alone in a haunted asylum. Your mind plays tricks on you, and you build them up into something much more than they are.

That was their greatest edge. You just KNEW something was up, even if you couldn't put your finger on it.

They found a way to pressure teams psychologically and in a game of inches that little edge can be huge.

When you're expecting disaster to strike it has a  way of happening for you.

When it comes to the Patriots*, Mike Florio can be trusted about as much as the Patriots*.

Florio's idea of obtaining intel is buying team sources and player agents drinks.

Was going to post this.  Im sure the NFL owners agreed to make Spygate go away to benefit the league as a whole and the Patriots agreed that the nonsense was over.  This football thing happened and behind closed doors the other owners were irate.  Deflategate was in some ways a correction on spygate leniency.
