NBC Boston: Bills are done, Pats make them lick dog *****

Living in Boston, the local narrative goes like this:

Hey, your quarterback (they don't even know his name) is pretty good! Last year happened because of all the COVID opt outs and it was our first year without Tommy. Now we're back and your Bills are back where they belong. You guys, with all your enthusiasm, are cute.

Of course, if NE sweeps us, there is nothing I can say in response.

I live outside of Boston and I hate this as well. Sadly, the 13 win team we were last year seems to have disappeared and we seem to be back to playing like a team that can't get the job done - the bigger the importance and hype of the game, the harder we fall. On paper we should have handily beat NE twice but we lost once at home and I fear the current team isn't going to fare significantly better in NE - it's painful living here under these conditions...

Well, I think we beat them. We're the better team. It's Buffalo DNA to hate Boston, but they certainly make it easy.

I am forever optimistic. May you and I both (along with all Bills fans) have a very Merry Christmas.

I emailed this to them this morning:

I just saw a clip of your group declaring the Bills are done, and that the Patriots made them eat turds on MNF. You New England fans are a sorry lot that has been spoiled rotten by years of dominance. You smug pricks don't have a clue about fan loyalty. Bills fans have suffered through years of painful indignation at the hands of the Patriots (and many others). I hate the Patriots, but I love their excellence. I was actually rooting for them to win that Super Bowl and finish the season undefeated. I'm tired of watching those 72 Dolphins swilling champagne and whooping it up whenever this happens.
Bill B. is a genius. Nobody disputes that. I'm not surprised the Pats are tough this year. A bunch of talented Covid cowards returned. They spent a billion dollars on free agents. Mac Jones fell into their laps, and they are the perfect team for him.
Who knows what will happen this weekend?
It's not like they destroyed the Bills on MNF. They won by 4 points, and the Bills had chances to win. They failed.
The Colts had, what, 49 yards passing Saturday night? In a dome? What the hell!! But at one point a running back broke free for a touchdown....call it luck, a fluke, whatever. One big play broke that game open. Does that sound familiar?
I've been a Bills fan since I was a kid. I remember guys like Jim Nance, Buoniconti, Hannah, Vataha....tough teams.
Brady is the best football player of all time. Please remember that every team passed on him at least 5 times, including the Patriots.
You've won so much you don't know how to lose gracefully. Throwing tablets and phones and growling at reporters is childish.
If the Bills win this weekend, I will thank the football gods and move on. I'm not the kind that rubs noses in turds.

Just ask them to name 5 Pat players from before 2000 when Brady started playing. I'll bet the majority can't. I tried it when I was in Boston several years ago and they heckled me with my Bills gear on...asked all of them to name 5 players from before Brady started playing...the most any of them got were 3 out of 5...one got zero and just looked at me with his eyes glazed over.

Sad when Bills fans know more about their team history than they do without even having to look any of it up.

I'm looking at long-term view of things.  We've got Josh Allen, our franchise QB, here for at least the next decade.  What we also have this season is an under-performing offensive line and a defensive line rotation that isn't working out well.  Patriot fans believe they have their next franchise QB in Mac Jones who has played extremely well and competently in his rookie season.  My suspicion is they're envisioning Tom Brady 2.0 and another 20 years of dominating the division.  I believe their expectations will not be met.  He might experience an incremental improvement in his game but coming out of a big time college program pro-ready he's already close to his potential and he'll won't experience the huge jump in performance of Josh Allen or his predecessor 6th round pick Tom Brady.  Advantage Bills.

Over-confidence is a dangerous thing.  So its a good thing fans don't really have an impact on the outcome.  Patriot fans are suffering from the consequences of success.  They think last season was an interruption of the trend and not the start of a new trend.  I suggest they are wrong but there's no reason to expect them to alter their outlook at this point without more evidence.  What they also suffer from is the thinking disorder called linear thinking.  Assuming a trend in place will continue forever in the same direction.   They've grown so accustomed to the good times they think they'll last forever.  The Bills are on the rise and will continue to be a worthy competitor for quite some time.  They will fix and address their deficiencies in the off season and in the process hopefully not creating holes elsewhere.  Along with this it appears the Dolphins may have found their game recently.  It wouldn't be a surprise if they give NE a run for their money in the season finale.

I suspect neither coaching staff that is preparing for the game is suffering from over-confidence.  Expect a close game with one of two plays or mistakes deciding the outcome.

I hope the Bills PR staff works their magic on this clip once the Bills beat up on the Pats* this Sunday.  I despise the smug, frontrunning, massholes that make up the Pats* fanbase.

I actually hope the Bills PR staff doesn’t, because so far whenever the Bills PR celebrates a win with an especially good video clip the Bills get walloped the following week.  Worked after we beat the Ravens last playoffs, same after we beat the Jets this season.

I don't think the Bills video team had anything to do with the inability to solve KC's defense in the AFC championship game.

But it is always a good idea to understand how karma works.
