Not everybody in here is piling on the Patriots but Belichick is certainly not infallible. He has his balls washed so much, he should be a permanent fixture at a tee box on a golf course somewhere.

Cause his resume speaks for itself and that is usual how it goes in all sports. You hype the greats.

They won thanks to Tom Brady. End of story. Like Ben Volin tweeted, the Patriots haven't given a second contract to a first round pick since Donta Hightower in 2012. You have to try to whiff that badly

How many Super Bowls have the Patriots been to and won since 2012? Did it ever occur to you that maybe NOT giving out huge second contracts to drafted players IS the way to keep long term team success? Last season was the first losing season in 19 years and they seem to have hit in the draft and free agency. Time will tell but how can anyone every question Bill?

I've always hated the way Belichick uses his RBs. Being a 1000 yard rusher is not a big deal in 16 (now 17) games. You have to average 63 yards per game to hit 1000, and New England has had one in the past 10 years. I think Michel will finally get a chance to shine in LA. He's an upgrade from Darrell Henderson IMO.

Didn't Sony Michel have a degenerative knee condition that teams knew about and was reported pre-draft?

I remember Cyrus Kouandjio had one as well and I never felt good about that pick even before he stepped on the field...as a general rule going forward, seems like no one should draft these guys before the fifth round at the earliest. Too much risk...anyways, Booooooooooooo Patriots!

The Rams failed at the logo makeover. 🤨

And as for conditional draft picks, Belichick puts me in mind of the guy who shows up at a party with a case of good beer, sits on top of it, and takes what's left of it when he leaves.

They also failed at uniform makeover.

The Pats like Damian Harris as their primary back and the rookie they drafted this year is playing well.  Rams had a need with all their injuries at RB, so this doesn't surprise me.  The Rams have an aversion to draft picks anyway.

Are you telling me Bill Belichick turned a player selected in the 1st round into 2 conditional late round picks? The man is a genius!

Yes, but Bill Belichick manages to shoot mostly crap.

As a Pats fan friend of mine put it, "Fortunately, the coach makes up for the gm's mistakes." (And yes, I believe he is the greatest coach of all time.)

I remember Michel hurting the Bills many times in the games between the two teams.  Granted he never showed up on the list of top rushers, but he has been a good player.  The Bills have had top picks who were a lot worse.  And RB years age faster than dog years, so maybe Michel has lost a step already, and the new guy is better.  Life in the NFL is tough.

The Rams gave up two conditional picks.  If Michel doesn't make their roster, maybe those picks evaporate -- who knows?

Enh ... Belichick was a primary reason those Giants teams won those SBs, and he had turned Cleveland around before Modell the crap hit the fan in 1995. Brady is the GOAT, but Belichick's defensive schemes won a number of those SBs/championship games. They're both all-time greats.

Yeah.

In his opportunities, Michel has been pretty good. I bet he does well for the Rams.

Dude has averaged 60 yards per game in the ground at a 4.3 YPC clip.

Decent production.

Michel's main issues have been availability and pass protection.  Based on his college career, there were high expectations for him playing behind a really good o-line.  It just never worked out.  He's probably just going to be the experienced backup in LA (insurance in case Henderson gets hurt).

Disagree I like the Uniform. Hate the logo.

Yea I have said for a couple of weeks to a co-worker who is a Pats fan that I don't think Michel is making the roster. They got picks for a guy they were gonna cut.

BB had a LONG dry spell where his drafts were pretty bad. I would say the last 2 are looking good, especially the sophomore class which got a TON of playing time last year like Dugger at Safety, and Uche at LB..

as for this trade getting a 4th for a player who has been injury prone since his rookie year and who was probably going to get cut seems like a good haul.  BB may riff on draft picks but unlike a lot of other coaches he seems quicker to admit when he made a bad pick.

Belichick is the best coach of all time - I don't think that's really disputable.

It was that, along w/ having the best QB ever, that led to New England's success.  I remain convinced that BB could coach 2/3 of the rosters in league into Super Bowl contention.

He's a woeful drafter, and a pretty middlin' GM overall.  With Brady gone, those flaws have only become more glaring.  He can coach this current team into being competitive, but they aren't going to keep me up at night anymore.

Obviously with Brady, the spotty draft record was somewhat swept under the rug. But to Belichik's credit as defacto GM, for every high draft pick they've missed on, seems they've found plenty of stud players in the late round/UDFA area.

He won a SB with the pats against the rams, during that playoff run he average over 100 yards in 3 playoff games and nearly had a 1000 yards that season? How is that failing plus they were able to get value for him. They traded him because they are loaded at that position again i ask how did they fail in drafting him?

Exactly.

On what planet is he a failed draft pick ?

He ran for 94 yards and a touchdown in the Superbowl breaking a 3-3 tie putting the pats ahead 10-3. His 94 yards was key to the pats winning the Superbowl.

He's not what he once was and his career is on the down swing but he was a heck of a draft pick.

Bills fans please stop with these nonsensical posts

Good post!

Once we win a Super Bowl (and doing so this season would not surprise me even a little), I think that Bills Fans will back off of Belichick.

BB is easy to dislike. He does not seem to be a very nice guy. He has been kicking our asses for years and out coaching and out managing the clowns who were running our team for many depressing years. And if you think that BB's drafts were bad, take a look at ours. Also, if folks are unimpressed with this trade, we traded away Jason Peters. Let that sink in.

Now we have a good owner, a fine GM and a good coach. As I said, when we win, we will stop caring about Belichick. He won't matter so much any more.

GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know everyone wants to bag on the Patriots but this is yet another example of how much a crap shoot the draft actually is. I’d have certainly thought this kid would work out but you never know. There’s an awful that happens to these kids as they grow into men playing professionally in a new environment .

People also seem to want to think drafting in the top 10 of the first round each years is the same as picking 30th every year.

The Rams scored just 3 points.  And Rex Burkhead had 7 carries for 43 yards, almost a full YPC more than Michel (on 18 carries).

Smart move for both teams. Pats get some late round picks for a player that was somewhat talented but in a log jam. They have Harris as a starter and White as a third down back along with some of their other back ups showing out well in pre-season and camp. The Rams get some help in a backfield relying on Henderson a back with issues staying healthy on a full load.

I heard a stat today that the pats drafted two tight ends in the third round two years ago that never played for them and thought Bill could have a hundred picks Tom isn’t walking through the door to save him this time

They did draft two tight ends that suck, but they picked up two very good TEs in free agency and they will be the focal point of their offense this year. They probably will win 9 to 10 games this season in only year two of Brady's departure...so they are going to be fine.

Doubt it they ain’t winning ten games maybe 7 or 8 tops and finish of 3 rd in the division since the Dolphins and Bills are pretty much superior at every position to them now
