Darnold to the Panthers

Recommended Posts

Not much of a haul, although I guess a second and a fourth next year’s not too bad...

I guess they were done waiting on the Texans.

You’re joking, right?

6th this year and a 2 and 4 next year? who were they bidding against?

This is a very interesting trade to me.

First, the value the Jets got for him shows me the market wasn’t there.  Not getting a 2nd until next year is rough.  I’m personally surprised Darnold is being written off by so many, but I get it.

Second, while the Panthers gave up draft capitol, I wonder if they are out of the QB race in this years draft.

Are the first 3 picks going to be QBs?

When has that ever happened?

Yes, that's a lock at this point. And it would be the first time since 1999 when Couch, McNabb, and Akili Smith were the top 3. Could potentially be the first time ever that the top 4 picks are QBs as well.

As a bills fan, I love it. I really believe that there is an equally good chance that Darnold is a franchise QB as Wilson. I would have feared the jets much more if they kept Darnold and got a ton of talent to move the 2nd overall pick.

Sensible for both sides, The Jets set themselves up to help their new QB in the 2022 draft having extra selections in the first, second and fourth rounds. The Panthers get to kick the tires on Darnold for fairly meager draft compensation.

Given age, contract, and potential I can’t see Jimmy G having more value.

Age: 29, right in his prime, so not an issue.

Potential: Took his team to the NFC Championship last time he played a whole season.

Contract: $25M/year isnt that bad for a starting/franchise QB. Plus can be renegotiated to a new, long term deal to bring that down a little.

I'm not a huge Jimmy G fan, but I dont get why folks completely write him off around here.
