Congrats Tyler Bass

Got to hand it to Bass. Fantastic season. Seriously important kick today. Great draft pick by Beane, especially considering we knew this was a serious contender going into the season.

Depending on a rookie kicker who was good but not great in college was a big risk. Add in that the whole (great) year he really didn’t have a last second game on the line kick makes his  fG today all the more satisfying.

You don’t think Hauschka would have made that one?

I realized today when they were about to kick the long fieldgoal that A. it was from quite a distance, and B. I expected him to make it.

And also C. We might have kicked a fieldgoal had we been in the Colts' position with 4 seconds left. 😎

Agreed.

Credit to B. Beane on the Bass pick.  When so many teams get their kickers at garage sales and flee marts the Bills used a 6th round pick for Bass and raised some eyebrows.

Super smart move by the Bills to pick him- extra extra credit because he is living up to expectations.

The Bills appear to have their K and P set, and they, along with Ferguson, seem to have the snapping/holding issues down.  What a great draft (if you include Diggs as part of it).

The fact that he kicked a cold ball through cold air made that kick even more amazing.  Notice the kickoffs were not going as far in this game.

I don't know if that was because of the conditions or he was told to do it.

Bass had another tackle on a kickoff return yesterday where he made the runner somersault. He’s had a couple of those this year where he’s been a football player and not just a kicker.

Yeah, on a short kickoff, as mentioned earlier.  I with they would just tell him to kick it deep.

Seemed like after that near miss the rest of the kickoffs went to the end line. The short high kickoffs are designed; every kickoff would get to the back line if they wanted that.

Been on his jock for awhile now.  I said earlier in the year that he was developing into a clutch kicker before our eyes.  I took a lot of crap for it.  It's nice to be right for a change.  Well done Tyler Bass!!!

That kick would have been good from 60+ yards. On a cold day to boot! (Pun intended) He really has been a find. Beane does it again.

Another feather in Beane's cap i don't think Haushka would have made those kicks when they needed them !

As mentioned above...not anymore.  We all thank him for what he did for the team but it was clear it was time to move on.

Pre Jets cheap shot- Yes

post Jets cheap shot - No

He was never the same after that.

Now we are Kickin Bass

Man that would have been stretching his max even prior to the Jets kick. It would have been close. I think we can all agree we upgraded though. Nice to have a young bear automatic kicker hopefully locked down for the long, long term now ala Justin Tucker. He has all the tools to get to that level.

Longest FG in a playoff game in NFL history for a rookie.....cheers.

I didn't realize this until watching the highlights, but it was Bass who made a crucial tackle on special teams. When the Colts had that long return and their guy hurdled Matakevich, then tried to hurdle a second player. That was Bass, and he took him down hard.

As one of our fan resident team historians, we may be witnessing the 2nd coming of Pete Gogalak with Bass.

No, Tyler isn’t a Hungarian refugee who’ll revolutionize the sport, but his immediate impact on a playoff team is certainly noteworthy. John Leypold and the Steve’s -Christie & Hauschka had immediate impact and we could honorably mention USFL castoff Scott Norwood. But none were as deadly this early as we’ve witnessed so far with Bass.

60 yard FGs are now -and for the 1st time ever, a THING! The only KO’s that don’t land on Chippewa Street are planned to force opponents to try and return to keep them further back from the 25 yard line.

Is it too much to ask that he have a great decade+ with us, along with all our other young studs??

(word of caution -watch out for the Giants to try and steal him! -Bastards!)

Why, did he have a 56% kicking rate in college?

relative to kicking accuracy vs passing accuracy, kind of.  His big knock coming out of college was inconsistency / inaccuracy.  His Kicking percentage in 2019 was 71%, which is at least 10% lower than what you'd want to see from a kicker.

Either way he's doomed...you cant fix inaccuracy issues - Bradshaw and Headacheman said so!

Just noticed that the Colts final Hail Mary attempt was hiked from our 47.  That’s a 65 yard fg.

if we were in this position, I would hope that McDermott gives Bass a shot from 65.  I’d really like to see Allen uncork the Hail Mary, but I think there’s a better chance that Bass connect from 65

What would you guys do?

I loved how stoked he was after that kick.

In general, it's great to have a kicker that is also a football player & competitor, and not just a "specialist."  I feel like he's one of those guys. As someone else noted, he made a great tackle at another point in the game.  He also looked laser-focused when he was lining up that kick.

Ever since they got the snapper/holder issues worked out, the kid has been money.  What a great pick last year.

And I remember the Bills getting an “F” grade in a few publications because they took a kicker (even though it was clearly one of our biggest needs) as early as they did.

I wonder if they gave the Cheaters the same grade, considering they took one a round earlier?

Bass very well could/can be the Scotty Norwood that wont miss in crucial game moments. not to knock Scotty as it shouldn't of come down to that kick, 49 yards on grass with the pressure on him big time but a wide right miss that lost the first of four sb appearances.

no, I believe in that situation, Bass makes that kick and the bills win the first of four rather then lose because the kicker could not kick well on grass, especially when the game was on the line.

another gem of a pick from the Beane master, for sure.

Like with Bass earlier in the season, that miss was also on the snapper/holder.
