Zay Jones is starting to play ball, making catches. For all the drops last year, and his off-season stuff, I give the kid credit for turning it around. May not be a # 1 (or even a #2) but looks like he could be a productive #3 and a future piece of a winning puzzle.

Ive thought the same thing- showing great hands and good routes! I do think he needs to get stronger- rarely breaks a tackle and I dont think he can hit the home run. We have to shore up WR and put him as a 2 or the slot.

He's nothing special,just targeted tonight.

Good luck with that.

I think he meant Buffalo-style Robert Woods, you know, 45-50 catches for 600 yards and a couple TDs Robert Woods. Not LA Rams Robert Woods, who is currently on pace to catch 97 passes for around 1300 yards and 7 TDs.

Is this illicit or political talk?

Lol. The autocorrect gives away my internet activities.

Yup. I saw him waving his hands again pre snap

Wasn't it KB's bone headed penalty that erased a long pass play ? Guy is worse than dead weight

We target Benjamin all the time and nothing ever happens.  Your theory is fake news.

The production is pretty even to be honest.

Yards per catchable target:

  • Benjamin: 9.4
  • Zay: 8.4

Target quality:

  • Benjamin: 8.1 (31st in the league)
  • Zay: 7.8 (46th in the league)

True catch rate:

  • Benjamin: 60.9% (105th in the league)
  • Zay: 70.4% (95th in the league)

True drop rate:

  • Benjamin: 13%
  • Zay: 3.7%

PFF rating (and ranking in parentheses)

  • Benjamin: 60.7 (89th)
  • Zay: 61.9 (80th)

PFF receiving rating:

  • Benjamin: 60.4
  • Zay: 60.5

Zay's been slightly better this year, but the gap really isn't very large. They're both in contention for being the worst starting WR in the NFL.

I guess a lot of this is just eye test, given our QB's are either terrible, or a rookie.  Main thing is that KB is on the descent, whereas it looks like Zay is starting to "get it".

I do agree that they appear to be on two different paths. I'm still not very high on Zay, but he's at least shown enough to warrant keeping him around. Benjamin has shown enough to warrant getting him off the team. I don't want either guy to be a projected starter on this team next year though.

He’s what I thought he would be coming out of college, and is living up to his draft position.

It’s a start.  So much work left to do to really build an offense - #1 receiver, line, replacing McCoy, eventually tight end, and of course developing a rookie QB.

I think he can do damage in the slot.  Robert Woods would be his ceiling, imo.  We definitely need two stronger WR's on the outside though.

How Zay Jones played a pivotal role in the Bills offense plus 4 final observations on Week 10 in the NFL

1. ZAY JONES SHINES

It was a good day for Buffalo’s offense in many facets. The run game found some of its best traction of the season. The passing game provided good balance under the direction of Matt Barkley, and the offensive line put together their most consistent game of the season.

One other major area where Buffalo’s offense proved consistent was on third down. Playing a large role in that effort was WR Zay Jones.

The second-year receiver had a team-leading eight receptions on 11 targets for 93 yards and a touchdown in the win. Six of those eight catches came on third down.

Sometimes it takes receivers 2 or 3 years to get going.  Nobody remembers this but Eric Moulds was afraid he was going to get cut going into his third year coming out of training camp and really worked his ass off during the offseason to make sure that didn't happen...his first year he had 279 yards receiving and his second year he had 294 yards receiving.  Then he exploded in his 3rd season...he realized he couldn't just rely on his athleticism and talent he had to work hard too...

On a side note, it really, really sucks that Moulds finished at 9995 career receiving yards...I think I would have played until I was put into garbage time to catch a 5 yard pass from someone to hit 10K yards...

Zay is going to be fine...he has been running some good routes, even at times when he isn't getting the ball he has been open.  He probably won't be a #1 WR but I think he could develop into a nice #2 sort of like Robert Woods and play a very nice complementary role for us.  Whatever his issue with drops was last year, that is long past him now.  Catch rate has improved from 37.5% last year to 62.7% this year which is still not great, but I think a lot has to do with who is throwing the ball and who is around him also.  Also his separation yards are 2.7 which ties him with Julio Jones...he is improving, I expect another big strep next year for him...

It's hard to tell because the camera is a little blurry/it happens pretty quickly, but are my eyes deceiving me or does Zay call for Barkley to throw it up high for him and then Barkley literally throws it so low that Zay has to dive to the ground to catch it?
