Rips up college

Huge problems off the field

No NFL success

Gets cut from NFL

Difference is Manziel was considered a much higher prospect and won a heisman trophy.

Kelly’s injury senior year is why he fell on draft day. Manziel had to start on day 1 because, Cleveland. Kelly was a legit heisman candidate in college before off-field issues and injuries. Kelly has not even had a chance to prove himself on an NFL field yet.

I can picture it now.  The game is tied here with 3:25 remaining in the fourth quarter, 10 to 10. Hold on a second...it looks like Chad Kelly has run on to the field!  Chad Kelly is on the field and he....oh my god...he has body slammed the Junior Wildcats starting QB and is now stomping on tight end little Eric Johnson.  Players are fleeing the enraged Chad Kelly but hes just too fast.  Parents from both teams have now run on to the field to attempt to stop Kelly but he will not go down!  Ladies and gentleman, we are witnessing perhaps the darkest hour in the history of pop warner football.

Serious question.

I don’t give a flying you know what about having choir boys on the Bills. We suck. Stink. Have sucked for decades. We need football players

I'm not a fan of choir boys either mac. matter of fact, I despise them so you're barking up the wrong tree there.

as for seeing him play? sure I've seen him, not impressed and certainly not going to be advocating the punk like you and some others are here.

The only way to screw up Josh Allen’s development more than the Bills already have is to sign, midseason no less, the nephew of the most famous QB ever to play in Buffalo, who also happens to be a complete, unaccountable knucklehead.  Brilliant idea!!

Sounds like a Russ special. He’s itchy right now wishing he could still trigger this for marketing.

Actually I did watch him and he made as many bad plays as good ones. Did you forget Ole Miss was ranked at the start of the season and went straight down a hole until Kelly got injured?

I've seen maybe 3 or 4 of his college games while at OM. Like others I've also seen a little during preseason.

Looks to me like he can play and could have a career in the NFL, though obviously he would have a lot to prove just with respect to his ability to compete effectively at this level.

He looks to be crazy tho and I have a hard time seeing Coach cutting a choirboy to make room for Lucifer in the flesh.

As others have said signing him could create a risk of bad chemistry what with all the challenges Allen has to deal with already and Kelly's volatile personality.

Always sad to see someone who is a waste of talent.

Chad would be the best QB we’ve had under center since his Uncle.

I pounded the table for him 2 years ago and I’m going to do it again now.

There is ZERO risk and insane upside with signing him.

The dude obviously has problems.  I am not advocating for signing him but the on field talent is there for him to be an above average to good starter in the NFL imo.

Ok so even more similar to Manziel then lol.

Broncos inked Keenum to a big contract this off season. Obviously the Broncos did not have much faith in Kelly or they would have gone for a shorter/cheaper bridge contract like a Bridgewater or Bradford for a year

He plays nothing like Manziel.  That is just the go to for ignorant posters who want to discredit the ability of x QB.

Where did I say he played like him? Please don’t switch around my words.

I said his path is very similar to Manziels in terms of ripping up college, having off the field issues, having no success in the NFL, and then getting cut for off the field issues.

If you don’t see those similarities, I don’t know what to tell you

Let him go to Canada for a couple of years and show he can be mature and then we can talk. My guess is he screws up again and ends up in jail and then gets a job with Ryan Leaf talking to high school kids about how not to screw up your life like I did

Jim Kelly and the rest of his family have been trying to get through to Chad for YEARS and it hasn’t worked. I don’t see why it would be any different now if he came to buffalo.... The kid has been in trouble everywhere he goes, and especially in buffalo.

Jim even had to vouch for Chad on draft night. John Elway called Jim before drafting him. Once again, Chad didn’t live up to his word.

Buffalo isn’t bringing him in anyway so it’s not even worth thinking about.

Seriously, I get that Chad is a mess. And at one time I thought Buffalo would be the worst place for him to play.

But now I'm wondering if Jim Kelly could take him in, have Chad live under his roof, and be the tough love giver Chad needs?

Dude - JK has his own set of issues to deal with in life, like cancer?  Last thing he needs is some disaffected millennial in his house who needs baby sitting.

Usually Buffalo is a place where troubled players can get a reprieve, away from the big city lights.  Chad is the rare occurrence where Buffalo is likely to be the most problematic location for him.  I would expect him to have more troubles here than anywhere else.  I would love for a stable Chad Kelly to be on the team, not an entering random homes frightening infant holding moms Chad Kelly.

Hasn’t had a chance in regular season action and looked sharp in preseason. I would bring him in. There is absolutely zero chance he is worse than Peterman and he probably isn’t any worse than Anderson either.

The kid is VERY immature!  Had similar probs. in college.  I don't think "the process" has a section for babysitting.

Having said that, we need QB help badly!

Where's a more appropriate place to find an inebriated 'Kelly' in the wee hours of the morning than a couch in South Buffalo?!  Odds are the residents probably ARE Kellys!

Under the right circumstances it might make sense for the Bills to take a chance with Chad Kelly.  To me that would be to see him 'man up' and sincerely apologize to his former teammates and the homeowner about his actions and behavior.  And admitting he has some sort of behavioral or substance abuse problem while agreeing to seek treatment.  It's not too late for him to get his off the field act together, focus on football, and keep his nose out of trouble but for that to happen he's got to want to do something about his lack of maturity and off the field problems.  But from what I know that didn't happen in previous incidents.  I don't know what we can expect Jim Kelly to do.  He can give advice and guidance but you can't expect him to watch his nephew 24/7.

McD and the religious environment at the Buffalo Bills might be exactly what young Chad needs..

.

Worship of an imaginary friend doesn’t translate into wins. McBeane will have to learn that lesson fast. It’s weird that it’s so important to them, which translates into clouded judgement.

Surrounding the locker room with talent, work ethic, intelligence and a will to dig deeper to win does.

Kelly is a punk, and one look into his eyes tells the story....something is mentally wrong..

Not the kind of kid that makes a good building block, and this team doesn’t need that kind of baggage.

Delivering pizzas may be the right career choice for Kelly.

The right circumstances simply don't exist. Kelly is done. He's had the same self-serving, lawyer-written, and insincere "mea culpas" at EVERY level he's played at.

And unless uncle Jim is a psychiatrist that can prescribe meds and provide the needed psychological therapy, there is not much he can do.

Hope the kid gets the help he needs and I was glad to see Elway say the Broncos would help in that regard. But he's done in the NFL.
