Did Vontae Davis retire at halftime? Yes, yes he did!

This seems a little over the top. Davis quit a game - he didn’t put people’s safety or their welfare at risk. It’s more akin to an actor quitting a play during intermission. In the big picture - it’s not a big deal in the grand scheme of things like you raise.

I didn't mean it in the life or death situation like a marine or firefighter, I meant it as letting everyone around you, plus your leaders, plus your customers or audience or students' parents or anyone else associated with your profession down. You just don't do it even if you are "done."

Disagree with the order here (probably worthy of its own thread)

1) Vontae (rhymes with quittae)

2) Boldin (close second)

3) Mularkey (did it for his kids <sarcasm>)

4) Marrone (at least he got paid)

5) Orton (this should be #1 on list of best ways to retire)

Official statement from Vontae:

Basically the gist is he realized he was washed up and just couldn't physically do what he needed to. Said be meant no disrespect to his teammates but felt he was hurting the team.

Davis is a different sort of charcter for sure.  It may be that he's still feeling the effects of his injury.  I would guess most players woulld rather err on the side of playing too soo after or too much after an injury, but apparently Davis is not one of those.  I'm guessing that his attitude will insure that he is more of a bandaid fix than a long term solution to having an outside corner to pair with White.  That said, the Bills may be able to get a good productive season out of him here in 2018.  If they can do that, then they can try and figure out a long term answer in the offseason.

Oops.  After reading his twitter statement, I have to take that all back.  The Bills are going to have to look,. I guess, to find someone who can play.  Hopefully gaines can get and stay healthy, and Taron Johnson too, but they're going to need one more guy they can rely on.  Maybe they can re-sign that guy from the Patriots.

What? The dude just walked out on the team at halftime. What would they be getting from him??

I understand his decision making as he outlines it in his personal statement.

What I criticize is the timing he chose.

He could have sucked it up for one more half of football and done this away from the field, not in the middle of a game where he was a distraction to his teammates.

A weird situation to be sure.

That was pretty chicken **** of him the least he could have done was play out the game & retire !! I hope there is a way they can not pay him to he doesn't deserve a penny more then what he got paid to this point !!

I don't see how he can expect to get paid it's almost like he signed with the intention of screwing the Bills over for a pay check ! Seems as though he just hung out long enough to guarantee he would get the full $5 MILLION for the season which is a crock of S**T !!

Fine if his heart is not in it and his brain is telling him to stop playing.  But tell the coaches you can’t go and just sit the 2nd half.  Be there to support the team, especially with another guy hurt and no backup corners left.  After the game talk to the coach.  Retire on Monday.

This is all about him meeting the absolute minimum required to get paid.  What a bum.

He also could have approached the coach at halftime and asked him to pull him.

John McCain

I know this has little to do with this thread, but it seems he practiced this move for his health care vote.  No disrespect intended.

Literally never heard of this in over 50 years of football fandom.

Obviously, Davis needs to be shown the door, officially.

And I want Allen, not Kyle or Lorax or another aging vet in a "leadership role, nor any coach, to get up in front of that room and let everyone know in no uncertain terms that, for good or ill, this is our team. And if you don't want to be on our team, then get the F out of here right now and quit wasting everyone else's time.

Gotta come from Josh Allen. It's never too early to make the team his.

That would make a great scene in a movie about high school football.   Sort of like Friday Night Lights...

If he retires he doesn't get paid.

That will depend on whether or not he can count on the support of Jack Klompus.

I should write that name down, hold on a second so I can get my astronaut pen. It writes upside down. They use this in space.

Like I said and got criticized when he signed, his contract was horrible.

I don't know when people will start listening to me, but Beane is HORRIBLE.  Not even sure when this team will recover his mess.

Ok, and if we choose to listen to you, then what? What would it change? How would it make things any better for me as a fan?

Does it change any decisions the Bills make? Does it change the way they play on the field? Can we hire or fire anyone? Do we have any say whatsoever in anything that happens with the Bills, or are we just along for the ride?

Me personally, I’d rather choose to find positives. It makes it much easier for me to continue following this team. If I chose to look at every move the Bills make in the worst possible way, it would only make me miserable as a fan. Why would I want to make myself miserable?

We have no control over any of this stuff. So I choose to go along for the ride, and I choose to find positives and reasons to support my team.
