Mr. Irrelevant
So, the successor to Tom Brady is headed to Jacksonville. Bill Belichick is headed to ESPN (presumably). Whatever happens, there has been a sea change in the NFL and especially in the AFC East. Josh Allen and the Bills are the mountain everyone has to climb. The Jets have a 40-year-old QB coming off an Achilles injury. The Dolphins have an oft-injured QB and salary cap issues. The Patriots are back to page-one with a new head coach and a total unknown at QB. And the Bills are looking for a new #2 receiver. Which team looks like it's closest to reaching the Super Bowl? 2

You might want to check again, we didn’t lose to Zach Wilson this past season bc of McDs D, it was Josh’s boneheaded second half that gave the game away. But that aside, as long as the Bills keep winning the division, these teams are going to be second guessing their QB situations and shuffling through one guy after another. SoTier
7 hours ago, Awwufelloff said: They’re going to get a franchise qb at pick 3 and be back into the thick of it in 2-3 yrs Maybe but not that likely. Of the 32 QBs drafted in the first round since 2012, only 5 have become bonafide franchise QBs, and only 12 have become have become at least "quality NFL starters". 6 hours ago, Albany,n.y. said: 5 1st rounders & when Fields is traded 4 of them won't make it to a 4th season with the team that drafted them. Those 4 all sent away for pennies on the dollar at best. Even Lawrence has underperformed his draft projection. He was supposed to be a superstar & he's just an average starter. I think that the 2021 QB class isn't unusually poor ... for all the hype that teams put into drafting a first round franchise QB, they miss more often than than they hit. Numerous draft classes have had no first round QBs become at least "quality NFL starters". A few times QBs drafted outside the first round turn out to be better than the first rounders. The most successful of the QBs from 2012, for example, are 3rd rounder Russell Wilson and 4th rounder Kirk Cousins, with an honorable mention to super-sub Nick Foles. First round QBs since 2012 (10 draft classes) ... 2012 Andrew Luck (1), Robert Griffin (2), Ryan Tannehill (8), Brandon Weeden (22) 2013 EJ Manuel (16) 2014 Blake Bortles (3), Johnny Manziel (22), Teddy Bridgewater (32) 2015 Jameis Winston (1), Marcus Mariota (2) 2016 Jared Goff (1), Carson Wentz (2), Paxton Lynch (26) 2017 Mitch Trubisky (2), Patrick Mahomes (10), Deshaun Watson (12) 2018 Baker Mayfield (1), Sam Darnold (3), Josh Allen (7), Josh Rosen (10), Lamar Jackson (32) 2019 Kyler Murray (1), Daniel Jones (6), Dwayne Haskins (15) 2020 Joe Burrow (1), Tua Tagovailoa (5), Justin Herbert (6), Jordan Love (26) 2021 Trevor Lawrence (1), Zach Wilson (2), Trey Lance (3), Justin Fields (11), Mac Jones (15) Of the 32 first round QBs drafted that have had time to prove themselves, I rated 5 as actual franchise QBs Andrew Luck (career cut short by injury) Patrick Mahomes Josh Allen Lamar Jackson Joe Burrow ... and 7 QBs that are/were quality starters are ... Ryan Tannehill Jared Goff Baker Mayfield Kyler Murray Tua Tagovailoa Justin Herbert Trevor Lawrence. I also considered 3 QBs that might eventually be at least quality starters and maybe more ... Deshaun Watson (injuries and off-field issues) Jordan Love Justin Fields. All the rest were lower caliber starters for a while or subs if they managed to avoid being busts who failed to stay in the league beyond their first contracts. Aside from that however, the Patriots put on an absolute MASTER CLASS of what not to do with a young QB. - Aging coach with old defensive mindset - Lack of prioritizing getting weapons around him -Lack of consistency on the OL - Hiring Matt Patricia as an OC and doubling down with Joe freaking Judge as his QB coach (which is why I can't blame him for seeking answers outside the building) - Job uncertainty with the switching between him and Zappe. Now, I was never high on Jones and didn't think he would amount to much more than a low level starter. However he really wasn't given much of an opportunity or competent coaching either. Yeah. Don't like the guy, but he was handled immensely poorly. 43 minutes ago, Rubes said: Whatever makes you feel better. ... is on this issue quite reasonable and correct.
