  1. Definitely. While I understand what the OP is getting at I think you can really only take things by a case by case basis. For example, when Ozzie Newsome was picking for Baltimore no one will convince me that he would have been better off throwing darts at a board of names. The man was a very gifted evaluator of talent. Your point is well taken: the coach wants to run a particular system. That’s going to affect the selections. And then, does the player get to grow in that system or is there a coaching change. This is a massively complex topic.
  2. I haven’t read every post yet, but I’d like to see this broken down by: 1) who made the pick 2) round they mad it in 3 position they picked I think if we are going to pay attention to trends we should see the variance between decision makers first. Polian vs Whaley for example: you wouldn’t just lump them together and draw a meaningful conclusion.
  3. Giving up what they did for Trey Lance was idiotic. Based on his level of competition and minuscule game experience the odds of failure were very high.
  4. Patrick Mahomes! Everywhere I look, I see Patrick Mahomes!
  5. https://heavy.com/sports/buffalo-bills/von-miller-brandon-beane-draft-trade/amp/ Here’s the original with Beane… Some funny siht right here!
  6. I bit my tongue and cried after I said it (not really), but it felt true, and I feel free. Finally. (Kinda really) If a miracle happens it will take me by surprise. Nec spe. Nec metu.
  7. We’re the Bills. We’re never going to win a Super Bowl. Might as well get Marvin Harrison Jr. and enjoy the show… 😛 Overall really good post. That said, I still hope they get Josh a few more weapons wherever they choose to draft them.
  8. Sorry if you posted it somewhere, but how do you rank the receivers and who do you see the Bills considering? For me it’s 1a MHJ, 2a Nabers 2b Odunze 4 Thomas Then it gets muddled. I don’t think the Texas guys will be the pick (Mitchell attitude, Worthy limited by size) I think, barring a trade up, the Bills are homing in on: Franklin (workout / visit) McConkey (multiple interviews) Roman Wilson (my gut) My concerns with each are, respectively, lack of play strength, limited production, and limited production. I want to like Franklin, but for some reason feel a bit better about the other two because they are just as fast and seem more versatile. Maybe they are in on Leggette? Whats your take? PS In my dream reality we somehow land MHJ (who I sincerely believe could have a HOF kind of career with the right QB) while somehow still being able to build the team out elsewhere. One can dream…
  9. I like the guy. He’s really really REALLY good. Just not great. To me it’s as simple as that. So the question is, can I appreciate the fact that we keep getting to the playoffs without being bitter about not yet reaching a Super Bowl…
  10. It is a risk indeed. I love the draft and have never felt strongly about trading up but for a QB. That said, the path we have been on hasn’t resulted in a SB win. I’ve found myself wishing the Bills would jump up and get one of these top guys. Obviously it would take a lot more than one more player to win a SB, but I guess I’m ready for the team to try something new and drastic and see what happens. PS Praying for MHJ… pipe dream, but damn… what a dream… ALLEN TO HARRISON FOR THE TOUCHDOWN!!
  11. As I’ve just got done stating in a couple of other wide receiver threads, I would consider it for Marvin Harrison Junior. Obviously, you’d have to draw the line somewhere. But I think he’s that good. if he’s on the board at six, I admit, I’ll be secretly hoping they say the Bills have just made a trade with the Giants.
  12. I realize there is a great (and possibly prohibitive) trade off here. I agree, there is no WR currently in the league that I would give up 2 first round picks for, but mainly because of their contracts already being so big. I’d give up 2 firsts for Justin Jefferson if he was on a 5 year rookie contract. With the cap savings I’d hire vets instead of the rookies I’d be missing out on. Beyond that, the lynchpin of my argument is that I am convinced MHJ is a SURE THING. I’d take one superstar sure thing (yes, I’m out on that limb) over 2 or 3 50/50’s. I can understand the other side of the argument, I just firmly feel that he is that good and you can figure out the rest.
  13. putting this here from another thread: I’m a big Ohio State fan. When we were recruiting MHJ I said to myself, “I don’t care what the rankings say. THIS is the #1 receiver in the class.” Size, athleticism, production, work ethic, hall of fame father… He became all I thought he would and more. He has all the tools, does EVERYTHING right, and works tirelessly to get better. He is money in the bank. I don’t know if giving up what it would take works for the Bills, but if you want to have one of the top 3 receivers in the NFL on the roster for Josh to throw to… he’s sitting right there. I would do everything I could do to trade up and get MHJ. 2 1st rounders? Sure. Beane has such a mixed history of picking in round one. The onlyvery good picks he has made, IMHO, is Allen and Kincaid. He had to pass on Mahomes to get Tre White. So yes, give up firsts and go get a super star. (I stand corrected: Beane was hired AFTER Mahomes was drafted)
  14. I’m not sure if it is a good idea to sell the farm for MHJ or not, but I will say, if there is one guy in this draft worth doing it for is him. I’m a big Ohio State fan. When we were recruiting MHJ I said to myself, “I don’t care what the rankings say. THIS is the #1 receiver in the class.” Size, athleticism, production, work ethic, hall of fame father… He became all I thought he would and more. I don’t know if giving up what it would take works for the Bills, but if you want to have one of the top 3 receivers in the NFL on the roster for Josh to throw to… he’s sitting right there. Edit: Actually… yes, I would do everything I could do to trade up and get MHJ. 2 1st rounders? Sure. Beane has such a mixed history of picking in round one. The only very good picks he has made, IMHO, is Allen and Kincaid. He had to pass on Mahomes to get Tre White. So yes, give up firsts and go get a super star.
  15. Yes, the taxes are relative to the benefits provided for sure. The challenge under these systems, it seems to me, is keeping the agencies providing the services accountable to provide quality care. Who has the power to hold a governmental agency accountable? But that’s really the challenge under any system it seems to me. For example, with corporations wielding so much (bought and paid for) power in the US, and there often only being a small handful of choices (take health insurance, for example) I’m not sure these private institutions are held very accountable either. Total sidebar/mind dump… But yes, I agree with your main point: if you receive quality service that you actually utilize then the higher taxes can be a wash.
  16. Right, Toronto. And can you imagine trying to attract free agents with Canadian taxes? What a mess. If a team ever ends up in a country with high taxes, if I were the NFL, I would try to negotiate with that country to pay a different tax rate (maybe an average of all other teams) by arguing that being competitive is more lucrative.
  17. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/126966963/ralph-cookerly-wilson And they didn’t sell to Trump or Bon Jovi… could you imagine? Not a political statement, but I don’t think the team would be the same if they had.
  18. The positions I feel a deep need for are in the Kama Sutra… oh, and a candidate for WR1! But in a serious note, no, unfortunately we do not have any pass rushers that can wreck an offense’s game plan…
  19. Wow… immature behavior taken to another level. That kind of crap doesn’t win friends and influence people. I hadn’t heard this part of the story.
