I'm not sure if I saw an official trades thread so here it is and please merge if necessary.

This is a pretty big trade. The Seahawks are going all in and doing it around D. They are currently the #2 seed in the NFC, although they have a very tough schedule: SF twice, Philly, at Dallas, and at the Ravens.

That seems dumb, like who thinks even with a better defense they've got a shot?

I predict very few trades before the deadline but I hope I'm wrong.

Bears should be sellers. Imagine that would be the #1 landing spot for the next highly sought after HC this winter. Tons of picks and cap $$, probably 2 picks in the top 5. Easier division overall. Classic franchise that has been down for a while but if YOU turn it around...

They have Geno Smith at QB, they aren't winning anything even if they are currently the 2 seed in the NFC

Bears have a talented CB jaylon Johnson on the last year of his deal, we could use a CB and the bears should rebuild, get it done Beane!

*I have no idea what defense Chicago runs or if we would even be a fit.

A 2nd and a 5th doesn’t seem like all in to me.  The niners are vulnerable. The eagles are vulnerable.  Dallas has Dak.  The afc is still a conundrum of confusion.  If seattle can become a top 3-5 D, anything can happen.  They have tremendous weapons

exactly!

Why not Seattle? Until Detroit (who Seattle has beaten twice in a row) proves the Lions are for real, it's Eagles, then everyone else in the NFC.

All it takes is a bad snap or a timely fumble in some winter weather in January in a close playoff game and suddenly the Eagles lose 17-14 or something and it's wide open.

I don't think there are any juggernauts like the last few years. The Chiefs have struggled a bit here and there, but have Mahomes so maybe they are the closest thing. But they have proven to be very beatable.

The rest of the league has flaws.

It looks like this season, more so than others, may come down to who gets hot when, and plays great in the run, pass, and all 3 phases. It feels like the NFL is favoring balance this year.

Apparently he would fit us perfectly per the Athletic. Also a low remaining cap hit we could absorb.

Imagine a Browns - Seahawks SB. That is a thing that could happen.

There were a number of people who picked them for the SB in the NFC prior to the season beginning...I was NOT one of them, but the NFC right now feels a lot more wide open than it did to start the season.  Niners have lost 3 straight, Eagles have a great record but look more beatable than once believed, Det just got destroyed last week by the Ravens, and Dallas is well still Dallas.

So I don't blame Seattle for making this move.

I mean who knows maybe this will be the shittiest playoffs ever and they'll be the last crappy team standing....feels like a weird strategy for them to pin their hopes on.

They should get Sean Payton.

He’d probably enjoy a change of scenery at this point.

Just picture it. Brown-Seahawks Super Bowl. Geno Smith's Hawks beat PJ Carroll's Browns 10-7. Old guys get really excited to dust off the word "slobberknocker." Somehow, even in the dome in Vegas, the game is played on a muddy field. And it's a copycat league, so teams would stop drafting QBs and WRs and start drafting FBs and LBs.

crazy to think that Seattle is going all in, and they probably wouldn’t even make the playoffs in the AFC.

I seem to recall a previous iteration of the Seahawks riding an amazing defense, a strong running game and a smart QB who took what was there and the occasional deep shot to a Super Bowl win. Not saying this D is the next legion of boom but there's definitely historical precedent.

If this is all in, what would we call a 2nd and Elam(1st) for Johnson be called?🤔

I don’t think that’s their strategy in their eyes.  They have an egotistical Super Bowl winning coach and a very good-great GM.  They think they’re good enough and adding a guy like Williams only increasss their chances. They gave up a 2nd and 5th…..and landed a beast.

The really crazy thing is that all of those teams except maybe the Ravens have been exposed to some extent. SF have some serious problems right now, although they are still pretty good. Philly almost blew the game yesterday. Dallas is inconsistent as hell. The Ravens do look impressive and that is probably the hardest game on their schedule, especially if it is in Baltimore. The 2 spot is theirs to lose at the least.

But I watched the Seahawks game against the Bengals two weeks ago, and the Seahawks were a few plays away from a win but Geno messed it up. They had the ball in the RZ twice late in the 4th, down only 4 points and couldn't punch it in. On one of those drives, Geno Smith took a BRUTAL sack instead of throwing the ball away. So, I just don't see how adding pass rush helps them win those close games where they need the offense to make a play.

So they should just stop trying?  They play a ball control style of offense, have a QB who is very accurate, and they are a tough out.  Is that enough to get the 4 straight wins to win a super bowl?  Probably not - but the ravens did it with flacco catching fire.  The Broncos won with the ghost of Manning.  The 49ers almost won with Jimmy G.

All it takes is a unit (offense or defense) to catch fire at the right time, and for the other side of the ball to do enough.  Bengals went to the super bowl and won 2 road games by a combined 6 points.  Haven't scored more than 27 in the playoffs over the last 2 seasons - with their offensive HC and all those offensive weapons.  The reason they win in the playoffs is that their not particularly notable regular season defense has 13 takeaway's in those 7 games.  They also had some pretty serious luck when you factor in that the winning TD against Baltimore in 2022 was a fumble recovery, and in 2021 KC botched a first half situation from the 1 yard line.

Punch a ticket to the playoffs, and anything can happen.  The likelihood of good things happening goes up when you have a top QB like Allen.

Have faith.

Mention Gabe Davis in a positive light or how some player won't come here because we don't have a dome and see what happens.

Never said anything about just giving up, but if you're basically doing nothing but keeping yourself stuck in purgatory you should maybe come up with a new plan.
