I could see them picking up a solid but unspectacular vet MLB and then drafting someone athletic with upside in 2nd or 3rd...so they have a guy they can trust but also a guy they can hope will be great.  However, not sure how much they get for Edmonds since he is on his 5th year option.  He's expensive and only a one year rental.  It's the same problem that Browns have with Baker.  Even if some GMs think he is much better than last year showed, it's just too costly to rent him.  I wonder what Edmonds and agent are looking for?  If we could sign him as a middle of the road level linebacker, which I think is fair, not only would it be more affordable for us but would make him more tradeable....but he and agent may see him as a pro bowl linebacker and thus want top money which wouldn't be worth it.

I would have liked Bobby Wagner as the vet fill in. Too bad.

It’s going to be interesting to see what happens with Edmonds. If he gets resigned, even at a reasonable deal, this place will be wild 🤣 Personally, I want to see more from our mlb, but I understand it’s not a given either.

Sal Cappaccio just reported on WGR 550 that Diggs was extended 4 years.  I can't believe how many people out there actually thought he was going to be traded lol

I won't believe it until I see it in emojis on his instagram!

Fantastic news. Imho, this doesn't change our draft strategy.

To echo many others in this thread - where the heck is this money appearing from? (not that I care, just being curious)

Cap hit this year actually went down with the extension

Nice. He's a true do it all type receiver. It's good that we know what our future is at receiver. I wouldn't have mind getting a draft hall similar to what the Chiefs got for Hill but at the same time it is great to keep a talent like Diggs. Even if he is only 75% the player he is currently 2-3 seasons from now he's still going to be a really good WR for us. And with any luck Davis, Knox or a future rookie will be our biggest threat by then anyway.

Matt Haack, Shaq Lawson, Tyler Matekich, Zack Moss, Tawain Jones and Marquez Stevenson seem like guys that can be on the bash list.

If Matakevich and Jones are still on the roster to play ST when they're in their 40's, that would be awesome to see the reaction here

Beane has to draft well. No more d ends. Get new starters at lb, wr guard and safety this year and next to bring the cap hits down. Also probably means have Davis is a trade target next year. If he goes off this coming year you trade him and replace him.

You want 4 new starters on a stacked roster? Please put down the pipe.

I've stated my affection for Kay Adams many a time on here. Kyle is a bit too much for me.

I remember Kyle when he did bits on The Jim Rome Show.  He's just a bit younger then me and is a bit out there.  But I love out there!  Everything he does I get.  His references to movie quotes or funny bits long gone is actually how I remember things.  It's uncanny sometimes and he needs to get out of my head.  He's a big supporter of us as well and I for one love him.

I have a lot of respect for women who know their stuff and can compare to anyone in this "man's world" dominated by alfa males for the most part.  Kay know's her *****.  Fantasy wise and real NFL wise.   I have a lot of respect for her too.

PS...Hey did you see we extended Diggs?

With the possible exception of Moss, I don’t think any of them have a high enough profile to generate the bash volume required to even approach Edmunds level.  Maybe Shaq I guess.

Edit:  Plus with Edmunds we get the added feature of people misspelling his simple last name.  How can this be done with Moss or Lawson.  Sure Haack is easy to misspell but he is a punter.

What does this do to the cap as we sit here?  Do we have room to get a vet CB now? Did this open up money?

According to the News article, this deal lowers Diggs cap hit for 2022.

Could we possibly sign a cb from the free agent class now?  This could free us up to truely take the best player available in the draft without drafting for need.

I would have to disagree. Just because Nate played football does not make him a great commentator / analyst. In my opinion the other 3 are highly knowledgeable and are among some of the best in the business, and that is why the show is so successful. Nate is average and was actually the least entertaining out of them all. I lost all respect for him when I heard that he patented the saying “toe drag swag” and started suing individuals for using it.

Capitalism baby 🤑

I would think that’s the plan.  Add a cb so we can go true BPA in the draft.  Possibly trading up for a player with some elite traits

Yes.  It has always been the plan.  They're taking their time but I strongly believe they are planning on bringing in another CB.

And I also believe they will not be drafting for need.  BPA at a premium position of use (which will probably exclude DL this year).

Think that seals the deal for the Bills 1st round pick. I'd be surprised if it's a WR unless one falls in their lap. Unlikely since so many teams need a WR. I think it's the best available CB.

I don’t know the numbers so this is kind of a guess but I bet this diggs extension freed up some space to sign Gilmore or an equivalent on a 1 year deal

So Beane is a failure?

What? No but he does need to start hitting on picks cause we can’t keep signing free agents. He also drafted josh and that gives a chance to win every year. We have to get cheaper at certain positions. That’s just a fact

Ranking next extensions in order.

I am not putting Poyer or Edmunds in yet. Need to see the Bills get through the draft. I could see both moved at the draft.

I am leaning to I can get Edmunds level play from Dodson. I know though the internal Bills think much more ahighly of Edmunds than even I do.

I think you forgot Knox.  He will get his market share a year early (w some guaranteed cash to sweeten the pot).  He's a keeper.

Spotrac has us 18.1 million under the cap. Don't forget next year we will get some relief from the amount of dead money we have on the books.

Yes, but Diggs is at 0 on that list, probably because they are waiting the new numbers.

A week or two ago, when asked about what the Bills were going to do about Diggs, Beane said what he often says - we have a good relationship with Diggs and agent, and these things happen when the time is right.  He pretty clearly implied that we shouldn't expect anything for months or maybe even next year.

The fact is that although Beane is very frank about some things that already have happened, he simply tells us nothing about what's coming.  I admire that discipline in him.

The table is now set for Allen-Diggs to become one of the all-time great duos in NFL history.   The future isn't guaranteed, but these two guys have the talent and the work ethic of Peyton and Harrison, and the talent.
