Inigo Montoya
The QB contract inflation continues... Here's a blurb about Stafford that mentions Cousins; https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/football/nfl/player/2679/matthew-stafford Here's a link to an article about the Cousin's negotiations; https://www.marca.com/en/nfl/minnesota-vikings/2022/03/05/6222ba8246163f53b78b456f.html It is expected to be a 3-4 year deal for Stafford. Makes Josh's 6 year extension at an average of $42 million a year look better every day. I think this is going to be a recurring theme as more and more QBs take their turn at the NFL QB money trough. Yep.........pay them! The more teams spend on QB's the cheaper the pickings will be at other positions in UFA over the course of JA's prime. 3 3
eSJayDee
I don't think it's unreasonable for Stafford to ask for something in that area. He's been a very good QB for along time & just won a SB. Cousins...😆 2

Augie
I’m glad we signed Josh early, thereby saving serious money. I know how crazy that sounds given the size of his deal, but it’s true. Now, let’s do the same with Diggs. These guys who think that just because they are NEXT means they should get the MOST, might just be correct to an insane degree. I’ll take Josh over these guys all day long.

He was one of the lucky QBs to get the big rookie contract before the new CBA capped rookie wages in 2011. He has made $239 million so far. Now he is queued up to make another $100+. YoloinOhio
The Vikes have to be more focused on replacing cousins than extending him, right? They got just as far with case Keenum. Now that the GM is gone who signed him, time to admit the L and rebuild at QB. Cousins is what he is, they will be stuck in neutral if they pay him again. They really wanted fields last year but got jumped in the draft and ended up with the kid from TAMU in the 3rd. I expect they will take another shot at QB this year.

FilthyBeast
Stafford now has a ring so by default he should definitely be in the conversation of the highest paid QB in the league. Cousins on the other hand would be a hard pass for that kind of money.

Virgil
This should spark a great conversation. Stafford, who never won anything before this year vs Cousins who hasn't won anything and many believe is a 1st/2nd round playoff QB at best. But the reality of it is, there are plenty of teams out there that would pay them 40 mil and not blink. Imagine Cousins on the 49ers? They are possibly in the Super Bowl with him. We knew Josh would be a bargain sooner rather than later 7 minutes ago, Shaw66 said: Sure thing. Cousins definitely to cash in this time, since he's only earned $160 MILLION so far! Let's not get carried away here..........it's not like they locked him up at that figure for a decade like KC did with Mahomes..........that gives KC a lot more flexibility to make adjustments to his deal to create cap room. When they have to........have to........re-visit Allen's deal in the next few years time the new market will be $60M+ and then the years they add on will either have to be at those aav's or Allen will have to take a discount. We should hope that he turns into the greatest product shill ever in the meantime so he might be inclined to take a bit less.

Hey, good for him. It's a business, as we're often told. He has made a TON of money. Good for him. But he is definately not mediocre. He has top 10 stats. He isn't elite because he doesn't have that clutch gene or the ability to put the team on his back in key situations, but he throws for a lot of yards and TD's and he is an efficient passer. 1 hour ago, Billzgobowlin said: This is going to be unsustainable. Isn't it interesting that the guys that paid him big money are no longer in their jobs. Bad cap management leads to a bad roster, a bad win/loss record, and a change in the front office. Good teams seem to know when to let guys walk and when to pay. Like most of the comments on this board, the Allen contract looks pretty good at this point in time. Beane continues to make more good decisions than bad ones.
