Cleveland Browns appreciation thread

We should take the time and thank the Browns franchise.  Both of our franchises were in the cellar for 2 decades.  We got Allen and McDermott to change our franchise and they rejected them.

Everyone say thank you.

It’s interesting to think how the draft would have played out for the Bills if the browns did take Allen. I’d assume they still take a Qb, but who?

Not Lamar.

Possibly the wrong Josh, but unlikely they would have traded up for him.

I would guess trade up for Baker or stay put for Mason Rudolph based solely on the leaked image.

If that is a real image, find it interesting that Lamar was appearently off their board...and Lauletta was a possible later round fall back option.

Look, it takes a village.

Mind you it doesn't take a smart village.  Just a a choice few idiots in the decision making department to make others' dreams come true.

Browns, you did it for us back in 1980 By taking Tom Cousineau which eventually played a part in the Bills getting Kelly in 1983,  and you did it for us again as Royale has referenced above.

For this we say thank you.

As a gesture of gratitude you can have anything you want on the second shelf or lower, but if you give us your 1st round pick next year in exchange for Bobby Hart you can choose from the third shelf and above...a lot of people are liking the football poppits.

But then, they swindled us for Tellar and still can't pony up the bucks to get helmets from anywhere except the Syracuse Football Surplus store. I say...

Wanted a pass first quarterback and not a running back pretending to be QB. You can't win in the playoffs with a guy like that. You'd think people would have learned after almost a decade of Mike Vick.

Well the starter for the previous few years had been Tyrod.  If you don't believe in that type of QB as "the Man" then it makes sense to cross off LJ.

Hyde, lets be absolutely clear and this is not hindsight...I was not on board with the Tellar trade.

"But you have to give something up to get the deal."

But you didn't have to give up Tellar and I didn't want to give him up.

How great was our guard play then that made it seem like a kid who was showing signs of breaking through his rookie year shouldn't be kept around?

Trade something else, but realize the potential you have.

I must say when that draft was coming up i was all about the Bills drafting Baker Mayfield or Josh Rosen & am so glad that Beane is the Bills GM because i would have gotten that so wrong .

One thing i do wonder though is because of the Bills history and their lack of developing QB's that they have drafted in the past that had some talent such as Losman, Manuel, Trent & some others could their lack of growth be directly tied to their situation & the coaching involved with them ?

I know by changing coaching staffs that surely didn't help Losman, or EJ in their development & i wonder if that could have been some of the problem with Sam & Baker to this point besides Bakers injury this year .

This example just illustrates the problems when ownership meddles or over-involves themselves in player personnel decisions.  It's played out countless times across many organizations over the years (including our own far too many times)

Let the experts do their jobs - and go count your money and your play toys in the corner somewhere else

Mayfield or Darnold ... which ever one the Jets did not take ... or maybe they don't trade up hoping one of them falls or we take Rosen.

All horrible thoughts

I can appreciate their fans. That’s about it, but I think we can all relate to what their fans have endured.

I didn't/don't want the Browns to get good before the Bills....that's why I was always pulling against them.

Then the last few years, they've just become unlikable so now it's easy to cheer against them.

Why would I have two feet if I'm not supposed to shoot both?

If you shoot both feet, you can't walk.  If you shoot one foot twice, you can limp.

Its still improvement from when they selected Manziel and Justin Gilbert with consecutive first rounders.

Both of them were out of the NFL in what....4 years?

The Cleveland Browns were locked in on Josh Allen as their #1 overall pick!

But then, someone released some tweets hours before the 2018 NFL draft by Allen having made derogatory remarks while in high school. (Wonder who could have done this *cough* *cough*)

"ARLINGTON, Texas – Quarterback prospect Josh Allen said he was “deeply sorry” for racially insensitive tweets that surfaced early Thursday, hours before the start of the NFL draft.

Allen did not deny sending the tweets, which were reported by Yahoo Sports on Thursday and included racial slurs and other offensive language, when he was in high school."

Sure didn't stop the Buffalo Bills from trading up in the draft and selecting Josh Allen  Excited Ultimate Warrior GIF by WWE

Its amazing how we have so many fans on this forum think they can understand individual football player development

We can get thrown off the scent during draft the lead up intended for other GMs. Our FO guys are just better.

Allen/McDermott/Trey/Milano/Dawkins/Poyer/Hyde etc.. All of this can NOT be planned. It’s the luck of the draw at the time we pick, and the chemistry that becomes of it. It’s the stars lining up, with the right coach at the right time.

Forget Teller. He’s good, and he’s also sitting home on the couch watching his team implode,  while no name Rick is playing for us at a superb level.
