[Edited title] Chiefs starting LB Willie Gay arrested on DV charge, released from Jail Thursday

@Zerovoltz - find the thread when Ed was arrested. There were lots of people here saying release him. Overreact is what we do.

As for the Chiefs giving 2nd and 3rd chances it has always been Andy Reid's way. He was the same in Philly. Try and find draft value by drafting guys off other teams' boards for whatever reason. Worked out great with Trey Smith (although he was off board for injury reasons not behaviour reasons). If you choose to be that way you are going to have a few guys where incidents pop up.

Auntie, it's 2022 right now. 0:)

Yea it is but the 2022  NFL season starts in Sept not Jan. This is still the 2021 season  and even if op counts this as 2022  Houston didn't just enter the league in 2022.  I know the Bills have been bad at winning in recent times but even they don't lose to a team that wasn't in the league a couple playoff seasons ago. I mean how did the Bills lose the wildcard game to a Houston team that wasn't in the league???

I'm not the one trying to make moral arguemnts ONLY for other teams players....I accept there are bad dudes on my team...and I don't care if yoru team has bad dudes, good dudes...etc.....It's just interesting that you guys dont' seem to ahve a problem with Dodson.

I do.  I want to root for my guys.  I can't root for someone who does bad things.  At least not until they reform and redeem themselves.

You can't say sanctimonious Bills fans accept the bad behavior of their own players but condemn it elsewhere.   That's not true.   Bills fans, like Chief fans, are not all cut from the same cloth.

Tell the truth, did you post on everyone's forums back in the Alex Smith days? Didn't think so.

…and he will respond with, “I just like to talk football with other fans”.  I call BS.  There are plenty of football fans on your teams board to talk with.  No need to TROLL elsewhere.

Can someone make an excel spreadsheet on the Chief players & coaches and their crimes. I think this will help everyone come game day when you trying to explain to whoever what crime they’ve committed. It can be so confusing who has pending drug charges vs. who has pending gun trafficking charges. Maybe like 4 or 5 categories?

DV

Rape

Drugs

Guns

manslaughter

Everyone in KC is saying he "just" broke a vaccum, and ignoring that the police report says he smashed walls in an argument while his child and the child's mother were in the house.

How long before the restraining order is issued? Or is the judge waiting until after the playoffs?

Ooh.  She needs to get a 100 yard restraining order, then go sit at the 50 each week.

You are right...he got his day in court and he was proven innocent.

Before that did anyone call for his release?  Did anyone give up being a Bills fan becasue of this arrest?

Did people appeal to let Oliver go through the system?

I'm not here to tell you Willie Gay is a great guy.  I am saying he smashed a vacuum and has a court date.  I hope he plays well Sunday.

Dude, there were tons of fans that were calling for Oliver to get released when that happened. Many of us were saying that we just have to wait to see how things turn out, but go look. There were a ton of vocal people advocating for his release.

Nobody really knew about Dodson. He was not on anyone's radar because he was just a body. Undrafted and never played.

So I am getting the vibe that having bad dudes on the team is OK..as long as it's not too many.  ....The standard is one or two on the Bills is OK...do I got that right?

Again..I am not trying to win an argument here about what team has the better guys, or how your team has fewer bad people on it....whatever...I'll take that L.  If they are free per the rules of our justice system and society to play football, then fine...I'll put up with bad people being on the team I root for.

....to @MJS  ....so what you are saying here is that fans called for Oliver to be released BUT you'd all have to see how it played out in court first?

But Willie Gay doesn't get his day in court first?

I'm not defending Willie Gay (or any other guys who break the law and do crappy stuff)  ...I am point out your collective standard here for acceptable behavior and character....you have one standard for Bills guys ....and another for other teams players.

My standard is again....all teams have bad dudes...I wish my team didn't.  Society has determined they are cleared to work....and so I'll root for my team, to win, bad and good dudes.

Your team is like 10 over the limit of dirtbags. Hell you signed a new one yesterday.

what a tempest in a teapot. The Bills present and past have had legal issues in my fandoms tenure, which were widely Speculated upon...as is why we even bother to chat online is to share thoughts...Big deal ...everybody gets their day in court and innocent until Proven guilty..... Come on man  such news right before a playoff game and it adds to the cred of the Chiefs being willing to sign alleged* bottom feeders.......Its a given if I were u I'd own it..noone holds @Zerovoltz responsible for any crime or even a majority of the Chiefs team....its a chatroom topic and your opinion is valid as anyone elses ...what I bolded Im calling baloney though. If Oliver had been found guilty he would have been criticized and even rationalized by a fanbase rabid for their team and wanting to see the best in its players. In that regard we are much alike.

Good luck Sunday the Chiefs are gonna need it :-))) GO BILLS

Can we change the title of this thread already. Gay isn't in jail. Never was in jail.

Seems like he was:

Quote

Gay was expected to be released from jail sometime Thursday afternoon on his own recognizance, meaning he does not have to post any bond money with the court.

A judge prohibited him from contacting his ex-partner, who spoke during the virtual court hearing, or their 3-month-old son pursuant to a protection order expected to be served on Gay before he is released from custody. Gay acknowledged that order but made no other comments during the hearing.

Gay, 23, was arrested at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday and charged with criminal damage to property totaling less than $1,000. He was booked into the county jail just under two hours later, court records show.

Fair points.  Yeah, Andy is not gonna freakin' care, not with signing Damon Arnette.

I had forgotten about Jovan Belcher (for others who have, this gem of a Chiefs LB murdered his girlfriend/mother of his infant child then killed himself in the parking lot of the Chiefs practice facility back in December of 2012 (in front of Scott Pioli and then HC Romeo Crennel).

But the Star makes a valid point that this type of behavior does tend to worsen if intervention is not sought, and that Willie Gay does have a long history of mental health problems, including as recently as this October:

Quote

Gay, who has talked in the past about his long-standing mental health problems, should give full attention to getting help now.

In October, Gay opened up about his struggles with the mental health issues that have plagued him since high school and college. He was suspended for nine games in college for academic fraud and reportedly injured the team’s quarterback during a fight.

Sounds like a well-reasoned decision:

“Well, I decided that he’ll play,” Reid said. “I’m not going to get into the conversations (that we’ve had). I’m not going to do that. I decided that after just hearing some of the information there.”

Let's go in depth on Andy Reid's decision making process:

Could he help our team win?

Yes -> He's playing

It is a sad state of affairs in KC.  One wonders if the prior regime of Scott Pioii and Romeo Crennel, who saw Jovan Belcher kill himself after murdering his girlfriend, would react differently.  A different perspective and empathy may be warranted in hopes this young man gets his problems sorted out soon.

If you look at Reid's history, you'd see he cares very little about personal/off the field issues and is the epitome of living and breathing football 24/7.

Remember he had another son who was on the Eagles coaching staff that died of a heroin overdose right before the 2012 season. He was advised to step away and resign and declined. Eagles went 4-12 that year and he was fired anyway. Everyone thought he was step away from coaching but went right to KC the next year as HC.

I'm not trying to attack the guys character but between the aforementioned circumstances with his children (including his other son's incident last year) and bringing in the type of players he has it's pretty clear he just doesn't care about 'culture' and outside distractions. It also says a lot considering the Chiefs have been to 2 straight SB's and 3 straight AFCCG's but this is what McDermott and this team are up against.

Yeah but Tyrel Dodson got drunk and acted up 5 years ago so the Bills & chiefs both have dirtbags. The chiefs have 30 but who’s counting. I love how they rationalize the teams overall behavior. Such ignorant fans in KC
