Milano should have been benched

There's a difference between discussing very specific concerns, and just dumping on a player with the title of this thread and the OP.

In the context of the overall team's performance, even being VERY disappointed in Milano's performance yesterday is still pretty specific.  Not liking the thread title is fair, but a bit of a diversion.  Wording (or even hyperbole) aside, there's a legitimate concern.

If the Ravens and Browns win today, next week the Bills will be facing an even better running team with even better TE play than we saw yesterday.  The play of both of the LBs is a worry.  Edmunds made some good plays in coverage at least.  Milano really looked like he was struggling all game.  (and yeah, I'm assuming the blown coverage was on White, but that was hardly Milano's only coverage struggle)

The colts carved us up having TEs or Zach Pascal cross in front of the LBers, where our CB would either get caught in the shuffle or hand off to LBers that weren’t on the same page.  I suspect the next opponent will do the same until we adjust.

The Colts carved us up because we couldn't get any pressure on Rivers. Allen would have over 500 yards passing if given that kind of protection

Yeah, "chat room" sounds kinda... salacious.

I prefer to think of this as a virtual public square, where all opinions are treated respectfully, sarcasm is eschewed, and we as a people seek mutual understanding.

Sounds good! Think I'll stick around!

I see "overreaction Monday" is in full effect this week, even though it's Sunday.

So far today, I've seen "Milano should have been benched" and "Daboll is dumb and needs to be gone immediately".

I mean......wow. Just wow.

Hopefully the film explaining what went wrong there, why, and how to prevent it from happening again, is first thing on the agenda at the next defensive meeting.

I suspect the coaching staff was already watching film last night!  These guys are working 24 hours a day at this time of year.

When was Klein sent on a blitz yesterday?  Klein literally played three (3) defensive snaps.  He had 0 tackles, 0 QB hits, and 0 sacks in those 3 snaps.

If you're comparing how a different player performed against a different OL in different game plan, I'm sorry that is just silly.

Edmunds had something like 3 big pass breakups.

Also had a great tackle on the Colts' first series. Taylor was about to bounce it outside for a big gain and Edmunds managed to wrap up his legs and bring him down.

It’s nauseating. People think we should win by 40 every game. I wish some of these people’s supervisors held them with the same amount of accountability.

And to think, many Bills fans said that Matt Milano was a bigger priority to resign than Daryl Williams.

We can all agree now that Daryl Williams is FA priority #1, right?

Right??

Anything that pertains to making Allen better is the #1 priority. Nothing else comes even close.

Resign Williams and use the tag on Milano. I want to really make sure he's going to be healthy before we get the Brinks truck out.

Even if we cant keep Milano (which id like to) there may be a couple of solid LB’s available towards the bottom half of the draft

No pressure on a potential HOF QB who is like a coach on the field. Can’t place all blame on LB’s given old man Rivers was smoking his pipe in the rocking chair. Takes a full team effort. Yes Colts TE’s were open all day, each level of D owns some of that. In addition to having to be concerned with the run. Colts did a heck of a job with scheme.

I swear I am watching a different game than some on this board at times.

The TD pass was on White not Milano

The LB that was terrible was Edmunds not Milano.

Edmunds was out of position almost the entire game again.  He really is clueless. Go back and watch the long 4th quarter runs.  Edmunds is being blown up by small tight ends.  Then watch him and Ed Oliver whiff on the 4th and 1 in the backfield.  He had one pass break up and one time where he was close to the tight end that dropped the ball.  That's it.

Perfectly reasonable strategy.  They need to find a way to bring both back

I'm not convinced lamar and baker could throw the dimes rivers was throwing yesterday though. Dude was on fire dropping balls in between zone coverage...he played a nearly perfect game

Milano got beat in a few pass coverages.  Some that I thought he had no business being on in the first place. He was good on most running plays and single handedly stuffed their 2 point conversion run. If you want to talk LB's having a bad game, I think Edmunds is right up there.  He seems to miss more tackles than everyone on  the team. Always diving at the feet of runners and them sliding out of the tackle.  He is always among leaders in tackles because of where he plays and usually comes in at the end to asists on tackles.

I'm not sure I have ever seen a worse performance from a LB.  Every single play the Bills were beat on was because of him.

The guy was blitzing the wrong lane, missing tackles, not staying with his man in coverage, and consistently out of position.

They needed to make the switch early to go to Klein and Milano should have been glued to bench.

Hmmmmm...

Defense this year without Milano:  Hot Garbage.

Defense this year with Milano:  Much improved.

Seems like another classic TSW really bad hot take.

Bobo, if the Bills can get Zaven Collins to pair with Edmunds I’d be elated to the high Heavens. Just think of Earl Holmes and Levon Kirkland in Pittsburgh. Although they played a 3-4 defense.

I love how people say he blitzed in the wrong lane.  Not a single person on here knows the call that he was executing.

I have no idea if he was in the right lane or not, all I know is that Phillip Rivers is a damn good veteran QB and he exploited the blitz as well as I have seen all year. Just a tough matchup that we thankfully survived.

Exactly.  Colts played a hell of a game on O and D.

Hey guys, let's just hope this defense gets it together after this slightly bad performance. Really strange game they came up big in some moments and blundered on others and Indianapolis dropped a lot of passes. We got this game behind us and hopefully they will get it together next week. We won. Go Bills!!!

Ha. I almost typed the same thing but then I back tracked remembering that the kid missed the field goal.  But I really agree man.

We spent the entire first half on offense living deep in the opponents red zone eg within spitting distance of our own goal line.  Meanwhile we allowed them two drive starts within 9 yds of our territory.  If we’re looking for things to fix, Special teams is near the top of my list.  Kudos to Bass for the FG and XP game though

I thought Milano played great.  He is a beast out there and made so many good plays.

Tre White had a roughy first half.  He missed a particularly easy tackles on a screen play that was a big gain for them, and blew the coverage on their one TD pass. Edmonds had his usual day of missing easy tackles, not getting off blocks, and being a step behind.

Milano blitzed well, covered pretty well, had a tipped pass, he is all over the field all dang day.

I feel we needed three LBs on the field against the Colts and also going forward as we have issues stopping rbs

Agreed. Sit Taron Johnson against running teams, and go Klein/Milano/Edmunds.

I don't think Linebackers played a good game but I think they were not in the best positions to make plays

I didn't like the defensive scheme this game. We played small all game.

Not to mention the entire Colts offensive scheme was attacking the LB level in passing and the bills run D is based on LBs being free to come up fill gaps and make the tackle. So really the Colts attacked our LBs every type of way and they did it well so its no surprise it made Milano look real bad.

Milano really did have an oddly poor game. Certainly not typical for him so I am not too worried.

Edmunds on the other hand,,,,IF YOU ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND HIS ROLE IN SEAN'S DEFENSE , played one of his best games if not his best game of the season! This is 2 playoff games in a row where Edmunds was the best player out there on D for us. Lots of breakups and helped immensely in keeping Taylor under 4 ypc.
