mushypeaches
what was the point of drafting a guy if you're not going to develop him and/or give him a chance to play a certain number of games? Of course, the flip side is that it wasn't hard for people to see early on that this guy is EJ Manuel 2.0 and you shouldn't need a long time to figure it out and move on

Process
I haven't watched them at all this year but it seems like this can't be a good move. They might have the worst group of skill position players in the league.
racketmaster
Haskins is pretty bad and their team really needs an impact qb. I wish they left Haskins in as Allen may get them a few wins, especially in that division. Any team that beats out the Jets and Houston (goes to Miami) forthe worst team, I am rooting for as I don't want Lawrence in our division. YoloinOhio
They were never committed to Haskins. It was Snyder who wanted him in the first place and then they cleaned house, leaving no one invested in his development. They should trade him before the deadline and let him start over
Ramza86
The division is still up in the air. Now is the time to make the move if you think Allen can run the system better than Haskins.

I wonder what he would cost in a trade. Better backup than barkley The last thing you would want is a young and inexperienced player like Haskins as your backup. Barkley isn't as physically talented as Haskins is but he is knowledgeable about the offense and is a good mentor and sounding board for Allen. That's not a role that Haskins could serve right now. Haskins is learning the game and essentially is a developmental player who is going to have tough spells. I don't think that Washington is giving up on Haskins but simply wants to jolt him and give him a pause so he can become more focused on what he needs to do to become a NFL qb. For him the problem isn't the physical aspects of the game as much as the mental side of the game. He needs more time.
C.Biscuit97
More qbs are ruined than developed. this is why some franchises are a joke. Haskins might not be the good but they are basically insuring he won’t be. Their offense is a joke minus one player (Gibson has done some nice things as well). And you bench him after possibly his best start? Joke city. For Kyle Allen??? i definitely had doubts about Allen but at no point would I have wanted him bench for some backup with zero upside. Moves like this make me proud that we finally have a well run franchises. They stuck with their guy through some rough moments and it’s more than paying off now. It’s crazy (and not going to jinx it) but we have a model franchise. Crazy times, 2020.

It’s crazy (and not going to jinx it) but we have a model franchise. Crazy times, 2020. The Bills stuck with their guy because he showed real leadership and promise. Allen at the very least provided an impact on the ground and after the first few games and looking a little lost he came back from injury and looked different at the end of his rookie year. We even went .500 down the stretch with him so we were winning games. In his second year we go 10-6 and make the playoffs. Haskins has not made any progress from his rookie year and his poor play is causing them to lose games in a winnable division. They have a nice defensive line and between Gibson and McClaurin (who is a star playing with an erratic qb) there are some things to work with. Kyle Allen will get them some wins. He is a nice backup or low end starter but even that is an improvement over Haskins.

NFL teams are too eager to pull the plug on young quarterbacks. Guys used to get time to struggle, learn and get better. They also used to get time to sit and watch from the bench. Obviously some succeed, but plenty of talent has been cast aside too soon. He simply had no one invested in his development.

Teams have ruined young QB careers more than the QBs have themselves - just my humble opinion of course.

Rochesterfan
56 minutes ago, YoloinOhio said: I agree his numbers and play looked ok against Baltimore, but he did not attack the team - it was almost all short checkdown completions which give you great stats with no real threat to win a game. I can understand this - maybe give Kyle Allen a chance to put some film together to show Haskins what they are looking for. I heard that they moved him to 3rd string with Alex Smith as the back-up. I don’t think this is the end of Haskins in Washington, but I am guessing that they are worried he has not picked up the nuances of the offense and with no pre-season - this gives him a chance to see someone more familiar with the offense run it. Plus it gives the coaches a chance to see what adjustments they need to make. Bad optics, but could be a good thing long term - of course if it makes Haskins shut off this staff it could also blow-up long term, by Rivera seems like a players coach to me and I think he can get long term buy-in. BigBuff423
This is way overdue....Haskins doesn't have the chops to be a good NFL QB. He will be a long-term back-up that can spell the position for a game or two, but he's not taking the franchise to the next level.

It’s crazy (and not going to jinx it) but we have a model franchise. Crazy times, 2020. I hear what you are saying, but in year 1 after his injury and missing 3 games - Josh Allen got better - he had time to see and learn during his couple of weeks and that made him better upon his return. Kyle Allen is young and has already learned and played in this offense - with the limited off-season and no pre-season games - it is hard for any QB to learn a new offense and click with new players - maybe they recognize that he is struggling. To me this screams - we need to understand the issues. Haskins has not attacked the opponent-is he a checkdown specialist or is he having trouble understanding the route concepts. Maybe an experienced guy like Allen can show Haskins and the rest of the team - what we want to accomplish. If Allen blows and struggles - maybe it enhances the idea that they are devoid of offensive talent. Of course the final piece is the fact that the NFL east is so bad. With the 1 win they have the same number as the other teams and are only behind by the tie. Maybe Rivera sees a chance to win the division still and feels he owes it to the team to try. Rivera is not invested in Haskins - that was not his pick and maybe he is more concerned with winning than developing the former coaches pick. I am sure there are many reasons for this and some we just will never know, but it does set bad optics and ill will with Haskins as we move forward. Doc
With the woeful state of the NFC lEast, they probably figure they can win the division with Allen. It doesn't necessarily Haskins is done in Washington.
