Mike in Horseheads
Ian Rapoport @RapSheet · 23s More specifics on the #Texans extension with LT Laremy Tunsil, who blew up the tackle market: 3 years, $66M with $57.85M guaranteed (more than I initially said) with $40M over the first two years and a $13M signing bonus, per me and @wyche89 . If Tunsil got 22 million a year, Dawkins could easily get 21.5 No clue why the Texans thought they needed to add 5.5 million to the biggest LT contract already in the NFL. Really screwed a lot of other teams by setting the market that high. Edited April 24, 2020 by thenorthremembers

I don't think so. It's hard to play hard ball with your players but its like - Dawkins... You are not top 5, or even top 10 really at your position. Why should i make you the highest paid?

JimKellyTryouts
Reading into this more, he was his own agent in this? He had all the negotiating power after BOB gave up so much to get him, and now he gets to cash in with yet another large contract, seeing that he will only be 28 at the end of this...
Call_Of_Ktulu
I would be pissed if we paid Dawkins a 15 mil a year average. Dawkins is NOT a top 15 LT and probably shouldn’t even be playing the position. 3

There was no reason to pay him 30% more than what Castonzo just got when he is a lesser player, and if you want to argue age, he is getting 2% more on the cap than Lewan got in 2018. It was a stupid move by a stupid team. 1

He is younger, and easily better than these top 15 paid Left Tackles below. Reiff Duane Brown Okung Donovan Smith DJ Humphries Solder The guy is going to get paid 16 million a year or more easy, and the dumb Texans really just made a mess for the Bills. DabillsDaBillsDaBills
3 years is an extremely short term contract for a 25 year old tackle. I'm curious how this will effect the overall market as most players sign for longer term and more overall money, but a lower AAV.

Mind you, he never would have dished out 2 1sts without having a deal in place first. He might even have cut him rather than pay him that much, tbh. On a side note, not only has Tunsil done remarkably well for himself without an agent, he also gets to keep all the money without paying a shark. On a side note, not only has Tunsil done remarkably well for himself without an agent, he also gets to keep all the money without paying a shark. Belichick doesn’t ever have to worry about losing his job. Not the case in Houston, or almost anywhere else. Having said that, I can’t really say I love Belichick the GM. He doesn’t draft particularly well. You can’t argue with his success, but I think more of that comes from being a brilliant coach (and of course a cheater), than being a good GM. I think there can be an inherent conflict if you play both roles. The coach in you can reach for players trying to keep their job, while the GM should have longer term roster building and cap management as primary objectives. It’s hard to wear both hats, IMO. P.S. - I didn’t realize Tunsil didn’t have an agent. I guess he’s not too baked, or at least less baked than the Texans BOB. And you’re right, Belichick NEVER would have painted himself into that corner. This was just dumb all the way around, as I see it.
