Is Tua Johnny Manziel 2.0?

Recommended Posts

Let’s look at the facts. Both players benefitted from STAR OT’s in college. Both players benefitted from STAR WR’s. Tua has even better players than Johnny.

If the Emperor loses his clothes, is he really just a Johnny Manziel without the cool nickname?

Let's hope. But I think Manziel's problem was his own mind rather than a lack of talent.

Well said.  Manziel was a head case and his own worst enemy.  Just one dumb thing after another.

Tua is not a party boy who is going to waste his career. But he may be a brittle lump of dust under the Bills D.

How do we know how Tua will react living in South Beach? Without his overbearing Dad to make his decisions for him, he could go wild there. Add in the 13 on the Wonderlic, and there's at least some risk that this could end up like Marinovich.

that, and his lack of talent.

Absolutely not. Tua can actually read a defense, look off defenders, and is the exact opposite character wise.

but comes with injuries instead.

id rather take tua, but not scared of him in the division either

There will only ever be one other Johnny Manziel and that's Billy Vegas

Manziel wasnt a professional.  He partied his way out of the league.  Tua wont do that imo.  Maybe he gets hurt, most likley he is a hard worker and becomes a good player.  Manziel was all potential no work ethic.

There is no comparison, in my opinion. The writing was on the wall with Johnny ‘$’. That was never Tua. He’s a team guy and isn’t made of glass: he always played to win a’la Josh...not a bad thing.

Manziel was a total piece of garbage in college. I thought it was clear back then, he had a high bust  factor. One thing I always ask is, "how will this guy handle a crapload of money and freedom?" I thought Manziel was likely to handle it badly. There is nothing about Tua to suggest he is in that same category.

Right but the dudes point was that he looked better on the field because he had Evans as a star target. It’s a fair question about tua.

Durable?

Good question. Who really knows? I'm guessing there was nothing wrong during his physical.

Of course he could get injured, or otherwise disappoint. But I seriously doubt, if he fails, it  will be ANYTHING like Johnny Football's embarrassing career. Sometimes I don't think people think for even 2 minutes before they post. (Not you, the OP)

Tua just had 2 of his receivers go in the top 15. Bamas Oline is always stout. It is a fair question. Its easy to look good when you have a great team around you....ie Tebow. Not to mention his past injuries.

flip side of this conversation is can you picture him with a work ethic?

he still would’ve been undersized and lacking arm talent

the OP should’ve picked a different guy given johnnys SPECTACULAR flame out but even without that he was a real long shot

Manziel failing at a Qb is 1000% on the effort he put into being a NFL qb.  It has 0.0000% to do to the talent he played with.

I don’t think so.... I have a feeling that Tua is going to be really good.  Maybe not next year but I think he has a chance to be a great career and I wasn’t happy to see Miami draft him.

I think Bills fans are sleeping on Tua and underestimating his potential.  The kid is a player

I don't completely disagree with that. But quite honestly, I'd probably be very cautious with any "short" QB. Obviously they can be good. (Brees, Wilson for sure. Maybe Mayfield and Murray.)  But to me, it's like having a batter come to bat with a strike or two already on the board.

I actually love the way Tua plays but still have some lingering doubts, given his size.

This is such a weird comparison..

Bills fans are just looking for whatever they can to rip on Tua because he’s in the division. It’s the same as the people who say Gilmore is trash.

im the same way on the height (or a variety of issues). Might start you in a hole but rarely are individual items hard line disqualifiers.

that said, we have the best qb in the division this year even if I’m not 100% sold on josh long term. I’ll take that all day. We will see with the others but tua and Darnold don’t feel like hall of famers to me. As long as we don’t have another Brady for awhile I’m all good with it.
