Are you suggesting he took a demotion to screw the Bills? Does that make sense to you?

He ultimately did trying to land the Jets HC job he thought he had in his back pocket. He screwed himself, it all worked out for the Bills in the end though.

Douggie was a good coach in a tough spot. He had a clause in his contract that paid him good money if there was an ownership change. He and Whaley weren't seeing eye to eye at the time because Whaley was trying to shove EJ Manuel down his throat. He had overachieved the year before and he wanted out before Whaley and EJ ruined his career..

Can you really blame him for not wanting to hitch his wagon to EJ Manuel and Doug Whaley?

Let's be frank here.  I'm glad St. Doug left.  I wasn't touting him as some great coach when he was here.  He did a decent job making the Bills competitive (with a huge helping hand from Schwartz with the D) but his management of the offense was horrid and he redefined the term "conservative."  He had just led the Bills to a 9-7 record and if he truly believed in himself he would have tried to make it work with Whaley.  He took the easy way out when his blustery demands to the Pegulas were not immediately granted.  He owes a debt of gratitude to his agent for building in the buyout, and I'm not "blaming" him for taking it.  I'm just saying that by taking it, he showed his true colors.

I honestly wonder if the Jags are planning to move the team and just don’t care what happens next year.  There is no conceivable reason to believe he’s going to turn that team around.

any time any afc team maintains continuity with bad coaching it helps the bills

I have no hatred for the guy.  I don’t like how he left and think he’s overall a megalomaniac, but don’t care about him as a person.

This is about him as a coach on that team.  Coughlin wouldn’t have that level of affect not the players for them to “give up” as it was said.

People around here love to dump on old Dougie boy but the reality at the time was that the Bills organization was up in the air and in disarray and the team wasn't looking good cap wise, etc. Hard to really blame him for bailing. With that said, I did not like him as our coach and his side kick Hackett did a terrible job. It was a win win scenario.

Cue the tantrums from the ex girlfriend Bills fans who care so much about seeing him miserable and fail and can't get over him. They just can't let him go.....

You sure like to compare Doug to a boyfriend/lover.

Just sayin'.

Perhaps you're the kind of guy that sticks up for former abusive boyfriends?

As far as Im concerned, Marrone did us a favor.

I never liked him as a coach or a person.   He seems like a real dick and lacks any kind of real leadership qualities.

His biggest claim to fame here was "I beat Green Bay" oh my, lets all bow down.

Glad he's gone, it paved the way for a real leader.

The Jags had a lockerroom full of players that hated Tom Coughlin with every fiber of their being. They quit on the team and the organization, and in some cases forced their way off the roster. Coughlin was clearly the probelm, not Doug Marrone.

For some reason, whenever a franchise fails, fans assume that every person that touched that failure are themselves failure too.  That is super myopic and, frankly, dumb.

Was Jalen Ramsey screaming at Coughlin on the sideline?

Marrone is a blowhard idiot.

...when he interviewed with Brandon, he preached "culture change REAL hard (an obvious necessity-see McD's work).......he called Brandon almost every day to find out his hire status.....once he got the job, he employed a militaristic "General Patton style" with everything.....a friend of mine hosted a coaching staff dinner down the road from SJF Camp....restaurant was 20 minutes behind schedule and Dougy went nuts.....made up the 20 by making staff finish faster.....then back to SJF for MORE meetings, routinely until 9-10PM, with Brandon/Whaley required.......they got sick of it and turned on him....Pegula offered him a 4 year, $19.6 mil extension, but he ran with the $4 mil versus an uphill battle with Brandon/Whaley......with them still under contract and with no HC, Pegs was in a corner......neophyte Owner in his rook year with no Prez, GM AND HC?...........

The Jags were not going to be able to attract Ron Rivera, Josh McDaniels, Mike McCarthy, or any other name / top-tier candidate to replace Marrone at this time.

So they're better off keeping the guy they already have under contract and see what candidates are available next year.

Recall reading the stories last week that Coughlin was out, but never seen/read anything that it did actually happen??

Marrone had a convenient scapegoat in Coughlin this year (although the excessive fines and CBA violations were, in all likelihood, ultimately Coughlin’s idea.) Plus, I really think Khan is more interested in international expansion/relocation than anything on the field right now. Now, having a good team will help in that goal, but I don’t think Khan views it as critical. So Doug gets to skate another year.

Coughlin doesn't coach them everyday.

Doug is the coach. He has a record of 22 wins, 28 losses in Jacksonville. One winning season out of three. Despite his offensive background, his offenses always suck. Despite his offensive line background, his lines always suck.

What makes you or anyone else think that he is a good coach? He inherited an elite defense and rode them to a 10 win season and then after that everything unraveled.

What exactly does Marrone bring to the table? Is he is good leader? No. Is he smart? No (he cant even get out coherent sentences have the time). Is he a good offensive or defensive coach? No. Do players like playing for him? No.

I don't quite know how he became an NFL head coach...

Amen

Doug is a strange guy.  He probably had a cameraman take a secret picture of you nude and has a life size poster of it at home.
