This is the part of football nobody likes. When you see a player of LeSean McCoy's caliber decline. Borderline HOF back. With that said RB is holding back Josh Allen. Under no capacity do I want McCoy or Ivory back. Give me three 5th round RBs and it's a vast upgrade over what we have. There's no juice left to squeeze. Perhaps accept a reduced roll. I don't see his pride letting that happen. Add in being a bit older, injuries adding up and (this is an assumption on my part) the potential for his off field issues to resurface...I believe it's time to get younger at the position. But as the year has gone on, I'm becoming more skeptical. There are times that he's got a lane, and the acceleration just doesn't seem to be there anymore. It will take a seriously lucky effort to fix this OL in one season, which is what Shady needs to be productive / worth his cap hit here. On a playoff-caliber team? Maybe a little change of pace back/veteran presence. A guy that can still catch it out of the back field...If I had to guess I’d say he’s gone but he’s also my favorite player. When you rely of shiftiness as a running back you need to realize it has a relatively short shelf life, as it’s the first attribute to go with age. He has usefulness, but will never be an every-down-back again. This is mostly because: his ability, his price tag, the role of running back in the nfl. Because having an old guy who is slower and less powerful than the starting RB, would be a change of pace, but I doubt it will be effective. One year ago, Sproles tore his ACL and broke his arm on the same play. Now, in his 14th year, he's still playing a lot harder and is more effective (yards per touch, TDs) than a healthy McCoy, so, yeah...why not?
