BeastMode54
Pass rusher in all of football. I know a lot of people take their metrics with a grain of salt, but even though the sacks havent been there as much, he's been a beast. Best edge pass-rusher Jerry Hughes, Buffalo Bills Hughes has won 23.4 percent of his pass-rush snaps this season, getting home with a pressure on 20.5 percent of his total snaps. Both figures lead the league’s edge defenders. https://www.profootballfocus.com/news/pro-the-nfls-best-at-everything-top-performer-in-60-distinct-categories 7

NewEra
JEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRY!!!! I’ve been yelling that a bunch this season. He’s having his best year. Love me some Jerry Hughes
thebandit27
He's been all over the place this season. The pass rush has been solid when Murphy was on the field, and decent even without him. I think the team still needs to go out and get another premium pass rusher this offseason (along with a CB2), which would really set the stage for them to dominate.
Soda Popinski
Hughes is definitely earning his money, he's always been good, but this year he's been very good. Really cut down on the stupid penalties too. 9

It's hard to believe how transparent the refs show their dislike for JH with these non-calls you speak of. Missed calls happen all over the league but Jerry seems to get nada out of at least 3 blatant "he's literally holding him in place by his jersey" situations every game Now given, Jerry has earned some of that bad rep with refs....but still wow

mannc
I remember at the beginning of the year when lots of folks here wanted Hughes to be a throw-in piece of a trade for Khalil Mack, as in, “Let’s give them two number 1s— and Jerry Hughes.”? Not so with Hughes.
aceman_16
Still can't believe the amazing trade we got for Kelvin Shepard. I remember reading Gregg Rosenthal's article that said "Hughes was drafted in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Colts to be an edge pass rusher; he was one of former general manager Bill Polian's worst picks in Indianapolis." Freakin' NFL reporters/clowns.

RyanC883
Imagine if we add another DT or DE with a top 5 pick (I can't see value at any other position in the top 5, and I'd be fine with trading down, so this is only if we stay top 5). Lawson has also been doing a great job opposite Hughes this season. Great DE improvement. D could be even better next year with Milano being a 3rd year, and Edmunds coming on. dollars 2 donuts
Additionally, he is in our cap next year. We don't have to spend FA dollars just to keep or replace him for one more season.

Yeah, Royale, it was really weird due to not only what I heard from fans here, but what was said earlier in the fall on the radio made it seem like it was a contract year for Jerry. I went over to spotrac this morning and was surprised to see he has another year left on his deal.

In 2020 he will be 32 which is an age where edge rushers can still be productive (Typically pass rushers fall off the cliff at 32-33) a one year extension which might bump him up slightly in 2019 and give him some guaranteed money (I would say guarantee 40-50% of his salary that year and give him a 10-15% raise in 2019) in 2020 would work for both parties. But he is at least going to be under contract for 2019.

I think LorAx should be back for sure; he's been solid when called upon at both levels of the defense. Keep him as a 3rd LB and pass rusher, AND upgrade the LB3 spot--those guys can easily be had on day 3 of the draft. With $90M in cap space and 10 draft picks, there's no reason to limit offseason acquisitions to one side of the ball.
BigDingus
It's even more incredible he's doing all of that during THIS season. Many players would've checked out mentally by now, as putting in that much energy & effort down after down in what you know will be a losing effort would grow tiresome really fast. But Hughes is still committed to the team & the franchise, and it shows a lot of character with what he's doing. He could've pulled a Mario Williams with Rex Ryan, and I wouldn't have blamed him, but he hasn't. Hats off to him!

If you're going to spend money to improve the defense, which they should, the priority needs to be pass rusher. First guys you target on defense is pass rushers. It's really the only way to mitigate opposing offenses. Next you pay corners. I think we're pretty well set there and I think McD can find one with a later round pick. Pass rushers are absolutely essential. With Hughes and Lorax on the wrong side of thirty and Murphy consistently on the wrong side of the injury report, any defensive money or picks would be best invested in edge rushers. Don't really care if it's an OLB or a DE.

pennstate10
I know the best DL keep their jerseys really, really tight, so OL cant hold them. But is it legal to put vaseline on the jerseys? It should be. Ref: Hey you have vaseline on your jersey. Why? Hughes: I aint planning on throwing no spitballs. Just trying to keep those fat boys from grabbing on to me. Ref: Unsportsmanlike, # 55.
