CBS Sports listed  seven top rookie matchups two watch in 2018. The December Jets game was listed as Number 1.

Sam Darnold vs. Josh Allen: Ranking the best rookie matchups on the NFL schedule

An ESPN columnist is quoted via Twitter:

Quote

my favorite defense of josh allen is that buffalo is the planet hoth

Lolz. I can live with the Hoth label. It's not accurate, but it does psych out opposing teams.

The game is touted as a sneak peak at a long running AFC East QB rivalry.

I love people around the NFL speak of Buffalo as though the weather there late in the season is radically different than lots of other NFL cities.  It's not.

We also don't play all the late season games at home.

Weather doesn't really impact Bills football enough to even be a minor concern.

While I agree with you about snow/ blizzard conditions, the winds off of Lake Erie are a mess.

Too bad that Miami didn’t draft Rosen.

I'm good with Tannehill.  Rosen has all the tools to be a very good NFL quarterback.  Only time will tell.

If we ever had a home playoff game it might.

If Jordan Palmer has it... then Allen >>>>> Darnold.

All in all, I have listened to Palmer talk about Allen and Watson and Darnold a good bit... he really seems genuinely excited about Allen in interviews I've watched and listened to, slightly less about Darnold.

On the DP show a couple weeks ago, unprompted Palmer brought Allen's name up when Darnold to the Browns was referenced. You could call it salesmanship, but listen to the interview... he's genuinely excited... even saying that Darnold would be the clear #1 in any other draft, but not this one. Sounds like he almost gets coerced into coming back to talk about Darnold.

On Darnold's pro day, Palmer, at one point, says Darnold has probably about 20% less of the arm strength of his brother but about 20% more mobility. At another point in the interview he brings up how mobility is going to be necessary for Franchise QBs moving forward, but at the moments he talks about this in the interview, he's not bringing Darnold's name up. He also makes a point to bring up Allen's upcoming pro day in this interview.

As for Palmer's feelings solely about Darnold...

In other interviews like on the Rich Eisen show, for example, he just sounds so stoked about Allen.

Sorry if this was posted... I searched "Jordan Palmer wgr" and didn't find this

Interview from Palmer right after Allen was drafted

-Allen is so small town that his teammates are going to quickly become his family

-Allen's completion %, after watching the tape, should have been at least 4-6% higher... that he even reached 56% with all the factors working against him (protection, offensive weapons, guys open, dropped balls, etc) is amazing... Allen's significantly more accurate than his numbers imply.

-Incredible work ethic derived from being a farm boy... this is actually a really interesting part of the interview

-Raved as a unique QB, but Palmer used a combo of his brother, Big Ben and Deshaun Watson in comparison to the mould he might fit

-Incredible smarts. Palmer said his smarts/study habits were greater than Deshaun Watson, who he worked with last year. And he absolutely lauded Watson's smarts.

-Allen has only scratched the surface. 2 years of real college Football after being injured and out for a year after a JuCo after playing HS Football at a tiny little High School.

and a fun little tidbit...

- The funniest QB Palmer's been around... and he specifically brought up Fitzpatrick.

And on a sidenote... can we PLEASE friggin hire Palmer as our QB coach for continuity's sake?!

It a big red flag when your coach takes the ball out of your hands during your senior season...

oh boy, we're in trouble now. this has to be the official, ''i've turned the corner guys, Allen is the saviour' thread. hopefully this is not the first of a litaney of them defending his throws to the middle (shallow middle, middle middle, deep middle) and the like.

lol, just razzing ya, here trans.

at this point of the journey, we are all or at least we all should be on the same page together in unbridled enthusiasim at what our new QB will be able to do. the season cannot get here quick enough for me at this point.

asto Palmer... i wouldn't get all worked up by his analysis. i mean, just who exactly has this guy coached/mentored that has been fantastic? how long has he been coaching/mentoring qb's?

Transplant went from hating Allen as a prospect to defending him with his life. I look forward to a lot of very long and repetitive argument threads ?

Have we reached a point where we will reach for literally anything at all to hang our hats on when it comes to Josh Allen?

I'll be honest, I wasn't totally against the pick at the time, but I wasn't thrilled. Since then, I've become more optimistic about it for various reasons, but I'm not trying convince myself any way I can that he'll be good. I/we just don't know. There's no need to try and convince yourself of anything in order to justify the pick. I'm just going to trust that the people in charge know what they're doing, and see where it goes from here. Do I think he'll end up being a good one? Yes, and not based off of a hope that he will be, due to playing for my favorite team. My vindication will only come after he sees the field, and proves it, not from trying to read between the lines of Jordan Palmer interviews.

Not trying to be a jerk here, Transplant. Its just that I've seen plenty of posts here lately that try however they can to justify taking Allen over Rosen. And while many of them, I can agree with, it's the whole idea of what we as fans are doing that seems foolish. What's done is done, and quite honestly, it's pretty easy to understand why the Bills took Allen over Rosen IMO. Let's let their play on the field be our justification.

Huh?

I heard some anti Allen guy on WGR claim that Wyoming took the ball out of his hands and ran it,even though they have a terrible run game.

He said that points to the lack of trust in the QB.

Whats the truth?  His attempts do not lend to this theory, but I have no clue.

In football you have to run the ball sometimes, no matter how bad your run game is.

The guy was making the point that Wyoming actually ran it far more than other teams despite having a far worse running game.

Lol, really? Josh threw the ball 270 times and his backs combined carried for 253. That's a strong ratio when it comes to the ground game.

Even in 2016 Allen had 373 passing attempts and his lead back 349 carries.

That could be the offensive scheme. That could be that the WR's sucked (which they did), and really did the guy know this, or was he guessing? Seems to me like Allen had plenty of pass attempts.

I fully agree. It’s really a non concern. If an NFL QB has difficulty with an occasional windy Sunday on the field, he probably won’t be an NFL QB very long.

I do think I i it’s a larger issue for kickers because the wind swirls that high in the Ralph, especially in the end zones.
