All kidding aside I watched a few minutes. I won't comment on if it was good or not cuz I don't like rap.  I also don't like watching people lip sync.  I don't like rap cuz the background beats all sound pretty much the same.  And I can't make out the words to it cuz they talk so fast. But a lot of people like it and I'm sure it takes talent, but its just not my thing.

What I would rather see is a top notch funky marching band like Gambling, Georgia Southern, or Norfolk State.

The social buzz I saw was overwhelmingly positive. I’m sure I’ll see results on LI…

As for the relevance question, those artists have sold about a billion records and not only influenced, but driven culture for 30+ years from right there in SoCal.  The game was *in Inglewood* and people don’t get why Metallica wasn’t playing? 🤔

That show was like classic hip-hop!  If they had some of the new kids up there, people would really lose their minds… 🤣

Been to two superbowls , one with Michael Jackson as the halftime show( SB 27) and it was in a venue ( rose bowl) where it was perfect to retain sound and I can tell you those shows don’t generate all that much crowd interest.  Lol.  It’s a big bunch of fake NFL hype,

I was at SB XL and that's what I saw.  I payed attention and was into it cuz it was the Rolling Stones and I like them.  But it was not like being at a concert cuz as you say most people weren't paying attention and milling around etc.   That year there was a controversy cuz the NFL wouldn't let fat people be in the "crowd" on the field.

Yeah and Rap is just full of riveting and intelligent topics and usually no instruments to be found, which makes it even more intriguing

Wow, is that true?  Omg, how did they enforce that policy!?  Would have loved to see the Stones , even if it was a halftime show. Lol ! Grew up with them and just missed their shows in the area i was at times they toured.  I missed them down here in Jax recovering from neck surgery complications unfortunately.  At least you can say you saw one of the true icons live, but you’re right , halftimes are not like concerts.  Still being at a SB is a bucket list thing I would tell everyone to try to experience, it’s just that unique.  The games usually aren’t that great but the atmosphere, the draw of all the famous people, and just the spectacle is really something you will never forget.  Who played in the game that year ? Hope you had a great time!  Bills lost the two I went to of course (27/28) , but both times I had experiences that would only happen around that event ! 😊

The greatest line about rap I ever heard was from Dr. Cornell West on the Bill Maher show.

He said he remembers going to concerts by Aretha Franklin or The Supremes or The Isley Brothers and people knew the words to the songs and sang along and it was a beautiful moment of harmony and togetherness.  Now its mostly one man with a microphone mostly talking about money.

It was the Seahawks and the Steelers.  I played on the Seahawks Blue Thunder Drumline that year so they took us to the game.  It was fun.  Super Bowl week is a zoo.  I can only imagine what it's like now.

Halftime of a championship football game (of all things) is NOT the time or place for some sort of breakthrough musical entertainment performance.

The SB is now so overhyped and overblown, it is almost impossible for the game to come close to living up to expectations.

At the end of the day, it's just a football game and the SB today wasn't in the top half of playoffs games this season.

Never seen Jay-Z live, eh.

And there are plenty of Rap artists that have riveting and intelligent topics in their music.  You'd have to actually listen to the music to know.

The music? Where is it? Dancing and prancing and rhyme words can only go so far. I don't think those horn "players" even played one note.

Keith Richard nailed it:

September 4, 2015, Rolling Stones' guitarist Keith Richards told The New York Daily News that Rap music was for "tone deaf people." He went on to say "All they need is a drum beat and somebody yelling over it and they're happy. There's an enormous market for people who can't tell one note from another."

This is the music I grew up with, but it's just sort of boring now.  Just like watching all the other old fart rockers and pop stars they trot out every year.   Just typical bland halftime show

After years and years of bringing us washed up white nostalgia acts like Aerosmith, The Who, Madonna, Springsteen, etc., it is truly refreshing to see the NFL trot out washed up black nostalgia acts.

This is actually a really good idea. I mean, it'll never happen, but it's a good idea.

So you are saying you don't speak English😂

This thread is full of it's not my music so it's horrible posts. Grow up. Just cause you didn't like it doesn't mean someone else didn't.

This was my post on the half time show and rap.  I don't like rap. You do. So what?  Why does that bother you?  I never said it was horrible, quite the contrary.

I speak English just fine. To be fair I can't make out the lyrics in most rock songs either. If you can find one of my posts where I said what you said I said, please let me know.

I do own one rap CD.  US3 Hand on the Torch.  Its awesome.

Loved it! So many legends, so many songs I listened to on walkman back in the early 90s. It was awesome to see Dre, Snoop, Mary J, Eminem, and 50 all looking and sounding good and Snoop and Dre truly represent the West Coast. It was about time for hip hop to get to be center stage at a halftime show. I liked the live instruments, little piano tribute to Tupac. Kendrick Lamar is another generation, but a genius too.

horrible halftime show only hitting half the population that likes this type of music.

I don't particularly like rap outside of The Chronic & 2001 and I can't stand pop, but I thought this was a fantastic halftime show. The production quality was fantastic and the ensemble cast of musicians kept everything flowing and dynamic. Despite being a music lover, that's not why I watch the Super Bowl, so I'd much rather see a cool show than some washed up rocker sing a couple of songs. As long as the music isn't grating, it's really a secondary concern.

Well, it coulda been worse. Coulda been the 2 genres I despise, one of them is Country & the other Western!

And anytime you get to hear the inspirational ‘Lose Yourself’ is a good day in my books! On the other hand, some peeps thought this was the best one!

Really? Act like you’ve actually attended a SB before, let alone listened to and reviewed the 50 odd with a decent show! I had McCartney & MJ and they weren’t the best!

Being a fan of Snoop, Dre, Kendrick and Em I was hoping for something awesome. It was a gigantic let down. Rap just isn't that good live. Of all the rappers I've seen live there was only 1 showmen I've seen and that would be Juicy J which is definitely not clean enough for half time. Censoring the songs really does change them. Prince, Gaga, Bruno Mars were all better than this because the put on a show.

One year I keep hoping they will go old school and have some bands play #justsaying

This was old school, LOL.  Who do you want, 70's rock bands or 80's hair bands?  those were 40-50 years ago

But I believe the question asked at the beginning of this thread is "How did YOU like the half time show? " His and other responses you referenced were spot on for them.

It seems you are having a bit of trouble with the English language yourself.
