horrible halftime show only hitting half the population that likes this type of music.

You could literally say that every single year.

Not true. I know plenty of people who can’t stand country music, including myself. It’s actually one of the only genres of music I don’t/won’t listen to.

I liked the stage and how they made it look like a city, but wasn’t a fan of the music. Bad lip syncing and Mary J. Blige trying to look like J-lo.

I still don’t get what the NFL has against rock music. Metallica is played a lot in every Bills home game, would love to see them in the halftime show.

I love rock music, but it is absolutely dead at this point, unfortunately.

I hate country 😂 at least the new stuff, and that’s what we’d get at halftime.

Love this idea, but let them perform independently. I don’t need the type of collaboration where country stars are rapping and vice versa.

who cares if its independant... everyone enjoys something..

I think they should bring together a mix of genres every year, personally.

I would love this!

I’d sooner watch a halftime show featuring Kenny G, Yanni, and that guy who plays the pan flute than watch a country music halftime show. I HATE country music.

If they’re gonna have old acts play like the ones tonight, there’s no reason Metallica, Ozzy or other older rock bands could be on the halftime show.

I love rock music, it’s a huge part of my life, so I’m not putting it down. Here’s the issue, those rappers might be “old”, but social media is abuzz about their performance right now. That doesn’t happen with Metallica. Everyone 50 and under knew those songs, people of both genders, and fans of all music genres. That just isn’t the reality of Metallica.

My point was that I’d love to see different genres, but not interested in cross genre collaborations. Seeing Britney Spears perform with Aerosmith for example, was not one of halftime’s finest moments.

I sure as hell didn’t know all the songs or the artists and I’m under 50.  I’ve been checking Twitter and the halftime show is getting mixed reactions from people that loved it and those that hated it. IMO, best halftime show ever was Prince.

Winner if only because they don't have the fake, planted crowd on the field going crazy for it.yeah

Yeah , but what do you think all the crowd noise was?  Fake noise obviously. Been to two superbowls , one with Michael Jackson as the halftime show( SB 27) and it was in a venue ( rose bowl) where it was perfect to retain sound and I can tell you those shows don’t generate all that much crowd interest.  Lol.  It’s a big bunch of fake NFL hype, no one is up screaming and cheering like that for these overproduced , bloated half time shows while actually there, except the kids they usually pipe in around the stages like you mentioned.

Everybody is too busy snapping selfies to prove later they were there or trying to hang on for the second half after a week of partying around town there.😀😉🍸. It’s this type of hype , crap , that I wish the NFL would stop trying to “ top” each year. I think they could do a normal halftime and their ratings would never show a drop off. It gets to a point where a whole day of junk entertainment actually detracts from the game which rarely lives up to even the divisional games or wildcard weekend regarding exciting play( especially with the Bills never playing there since 94) , and these halftime shows for TV just interrupt the game flow/ tension and every year taylor to niche audiences. Just old I guess , but the half time shows are not essential entertainment as a football fan. How much money does the NFL need to keep trying to squeeze out of a single event?

I'm saying they don't move the needle with the under 40 crowd.  Hip-hop and pop are kings these days...like it or not.

Fair enough, it wasn’t my thing, but it seems like most younger people enjoyed it from what I see on social media. That’s what the NFL wants with demographics. Prince was phenomenal, and I loved all the rock halftime shows. I’m not a rap fan, but those guys have a much wider appeal than Metallica for instance. Metallica’s entire appeal is to middle aged men.

Absolutely, that’s the entire point. My wife hates rap, but knew most of those songs from early 2000’s pop radio. Many of our Facebook friends are talking about it also.

I agree 100% with Dee. I’ve been to games in Buffalo, NJ, Baltimore and DC and heard rock music in each stadium.

The crowd at a stadium on Sunday is different than the Super Bowl audience. Everyone watches the Super Bowl, getting a bunch dudes hyped at the stadium is different from targeting a wide audience. I think this is great music, I love those songs, and your enthusiasm for rock, but they aren’t dragging out an obese Axl Rose for a halftime show at this point.

Yes.  And for most young adults that's the only thing they know that music from.  Kind of how Gary Glitter was for us forty something's who grew up in the 80s/90s.

Lol at Obese Axl Rose. He looks like Mama Fratelli from the Goonies. 50 Cent looked like 75 cent with the weight he put on.

I think Bands present way more of a challenge since instruments are actually being played, therefore amps. drums etc all have to be mic'd up, so there is way more sound production involved with little time to make it happen. With what they did tonight they are basically rapping to pre recorded backing tracks way easier to pull off. Also bands like Metallica etc with musicians who have 10,000 plus hours of practicing and mastering their instruments are going to want to play for real and not fake it to pre recorded tracks.

I vehemently hate country music.  This show was quintessentially California and it was good.  My only real complaint is that the sound work could’ve been better.

I don't like alot of the new "country music" but when you look back on the history of it there are alot of great musicians who were masters of their craft who came from Country music. Chet Atkins, Albert Lee, Buddy Emmons, etc etc etc musicians who can really play their instruments and spent countless hours learning to do so. Also so many great songwriters who crafted countless songs that had substance-Merle Haggard, Waylon, Willie, etc etc etc. What i watched today took little to no talent or work to pull off, all production no substance.

The NFL plays one game a year where the halftime is twice as long as every other game. The Super Bowl. For this reason I've always hated these halftime productions, even if it's an artist that I enjoy.

This year they apparently thought it was a good idea for the Rock to do whatever the hell he did on the field after the coin toss and before kickoff. Seriously, wtf was that and who thought it was a good idea?

It will never happen, but it would be great if they cut out all this bs and focused instead on just playing a damn football game.

totally agree you can't have any music performance of any authenticity or substance in so little time, so what you get is fake cheesey production that takes away from the football, its pointless and only done for the money

Look, I’m an old white guy. I should have hated the halftime show, but I found it well done and entertaining for music that won’t make my Spotify playlist, except maybe “Lose Yourself ”  … I’ll give it a solid B

This it true.  I actually like some of that stuff.  Some bluegrass too.  Country music today isn’t just bad on its surface and in its soul, it also came at the expense of destroying the music you are talking about, which was superior in a lot of ways.  Too bad it is all but gone.

I don’t generally watch the Grammys, but I caught a performance a few years ago where lady Gaga sang with Metallica … it was outstanding, and that type of halftime show would work
