BillsFanForever19
A common statement in the wake of today's news on Tre'Davious White has been "I'm sure they'll bring someone in for depth". It's possible they stay pat with who they have. It's also possible they poach someone off another team's Practice Squad. But in the event they go the veteran FA route, I thought I'd take a look at what's out there. Below is a list compiled from NFLTradeRumors.co List of Top 100 Available Free Agents - along with their ranking on the list overall and their age: (https://nfltraderumors.co/top-50-2021-nfl-free-agents/) 9.) Quinton Dunbar, 29 21.) Daryl Worley, 26 22.) Gareon Conley, 26 27.) D.J. Hayden, 31 31.) Prince Amukamura, 32 52.) Blidi Wreh-Wilson, 31 56.) Dre Kirkpatrick, 31 72.) Akeem King, 29 78.) B.W. Webb, 31 Quinton Dunbar was brought in for a visit with the team in late September of this year. Daryl Worley was a member of the Bills from 11/3-12/9/20 before being poached from their Practice Squad by Las Vegas. So I'd imagine if we were to make a FA addition, one of them is the most likely move. Anyone have a preference from the list or an idea of someone on a team's Practice Squad? 1

Rc2catch
I think we promote from the practice squad or poach someone. I think they’d prefer a young inexperienced guy they can coach up opposed to some vet who has washed out in multiple places and schemes. However Lev Bell being listed as the 6th best overall available FA goes to show how bare the FA market is. 2 1
TampaBillsJunkie
Kirkpatrick was decent for a few years, not sure if he still has it, but why not kick the tires on him and Dunbar. Put them on the PS while we hope the others can step up. Losing TRE is bad, especially with SB aspirations. Tampa Bay will be much tougher matchup now. The rest of the schedule we may slide by, but in the playoffs KC, LA Chargers, even Cinci will prove to be tougher tests. As far as the SB, the NFC is loaded with high octane passing teams. This is a BIG LOSS. Outside of Allen and Diggs, Tre is the MVP. We really need to start getting more pressure on the QB and hopefully the whole defensive scheme steps up and figures out ways to neutralize #1 WRs. Wizard
It never hurts to bring someone in. Anyone know which of the guy's has played a similar/scheme role as White? I would want someone who does not create penalties and has a quiet leadership/lunchpail approach. Are one of King, Hayden, or Kirkpatrick like that? Brianmoorman4jesus
I would sign 2 or 3 of these guys and let them battle it out. Give us some outs. We have a better shot at finding 1 good corner if we have 4 or 5 to choose from. 2

without a drought
They have Cam Lewis, Olaijah Griffin and Nick McCloud here already. I expect them to go there for the active roster and then sign someone to the PS.
finn
They may wait until the last weeks of the season, when teams dump high-priced veterans. If one of them wants to play with a contender, he might sign with the Bills for a reasonable salary.

Blank Stare
Hard no on Worley. I’d either kick the tires on Dunbar (didn’t realize he was so tall and youngish at 29) or elevate McLoud. I thought he played well in the preseason. I liked his style of play.

White goes to IR so that is 1 spot already open on the 53. Anyone else on the PS is easily replaced. That said I would just pick a veteran and bring them in to the PS. If they suck cut them and sign another one a week later.

Siran and Cam have played on the boundary, but it isn’t not there natural fit. Siran is more of a big nickel and cam more of a traditional slot defender I.e. taron With Wallace and Jackson your boundary CB1 and CB2 and no clear #3 option, I think they’re almost certainly going to sign a PS guy to the active roster or elevate a boundary guy each week on game day

But I believe the guys we got will be the guys we roll with unless they get hurt or play terribly bad.

QCity
You know it's going to be Worley. They had a hand in drafting him in 2016 and brought him onboard our practice squad last year. We know the weight they place on familiarity. 1
ProcessTruster
training camp is over... its a week to week grind at this point.. familiarity is probably more important than anything now... plug and play is the watchword.. so, probably rolling with their PS and guys who have been with the team this year... time to rush the passer more effectively... LABILLBACKER
Maybe Dunbar but more likely promote Lewis or Griffin as depth. Then run with Dane, Levi, Taron and Neal. Poyer and Hyde will be more important than ever.

I think the coverage will overall suffer, I am not sure by how much. Heavy Zone team, I think scheme can help over come it. Rest of the way in season, only TB imo will be able to test the limits of our coverage.

All small gains, but... - Get live reps for the young guys on your roster that you want to evaluate - A couple game savings on high salaries which would carry forward into next year's cap - for players you are not planning on re-signing - Good will with veteran players that may want to play with a contender, rather than sit on the bench - Already planning on FA acquisitions, so comp picks are out of the equation for you - Possibly enhance draft position Bottom line, if you are in that situation and the player requests to be cut, why not? Certainly understand the ones in bold. As to salaries if they are 4+ year vet isn't their salary guaranteed anyway for the year? Or it just is no longer counted towards next years cap? Bottom line not missing much other than player requesting to be let go hoping that he'll be picked up by some playoff bound team. Likely the agent has had some back room conversations to know there's a good chance this happens.
