Joe B's 53 man roster prediction

Pretty solid work by Joe here.  It is behind the paywall......sorry - it IS worth it.  I copied the players has has making and the PS guys.  Really think his 53 is much better than any 53 we as fan boys can come up with as he sees them day in and day out.

From the article:

Re-sign RB Taiwan Jones and TE Jake Hollister

Now to the roster madness. This is a move Beane loves using at final cuts. He identifies vested veterans — players with over four accrued years of NFLservice or more — near the middle to bottom of the roster, on the final year of their contracts and without a ton of guaranteed money owed. Vested veterans do not need to pass through waivers and may immediately sign wherever they choose. Beane releases them initially, gives them some money for their trouble and re-signs them to give his team flexibility. In this case, it’s with the injuries to McKenzie and Phillips. That small move with Jones and Hollister would keep McKenzie and Phillips available to return off IR this year while keeping on two other younger players they otherwise would have had to cut. Jones has $700,000 guaranteed this year, and Hollister only has $137,500 guaranteed, according to OverTheCap.com. Upon their re-signing, it’s fair to expect their new contracts would be close to fully guaranteed for the season with a nice little signing bonus.

Just some random thoughts on this:

- no way this team is keeping 8 WR's and don't understand the Hodgins love, nobody is going to claim him and he can be put on the PS if we like him that much.

- agree with RB. I know Jones is a great ST player but you have to make sacrifices sometimes and he probably will be out there on the street if we really need him back later this season.

- No way we are cutting Hollister and it has nothing to do with being JA's former college teamate, IMO right now he's a better TE than Knox based on his previous resume.

- I know we are deep on dline but again, how can we justifying keeping 12 total players between DE/DT when only so many can dress each week. I still think a surprise move is coming in form of trade/cut involving Addison or Hughes.

That context changes alot.

Agree on Harry, not sure about McKenzie to IR based on his comments today.

If Joe had to pick 1 player to resign, who would it be?

I'd clearly go with Hollister, but we will see.

I was told there would be no math...sigh

No idea why he has Hodgins making the team.

No idea why he’s only keeping 2 TEs, 1 of which is Gilliam.

T Jones is close to a lock to make the team. Breida is closer to being cut than Jones IMO

Not so sure Tommy Doyle makes the team either.

Yeah not really feeling his 53 prediction. Definitely some head scratchers in there.

With Phillips injured, I question our ability to stop the run. Should Beane be looking for a stout DT to shore up our interior?

Ed, Star, Vernon and Justin. Not the greatest collection of run stoppers you ever saw.

It looks worrisome to me....

Could Beane surprise us and claim a DT?

I would it exciting if we kept 8 WRs. I think we are going to need them.

Isaiah Hodgins, would be my guess.

Phillips will be back or they would.

Two TE's on the active roster? No Jacob Hollister? 8 WRs?

This list is sus.

Hollister is going to be signed when some players go to IR per Joe....

Joe's roster reads more like who he'd like to see make it rather than who he thinks the Bills will.

If all you did were to read the roster and not the story I can easily see your point.  If you read the story and his reasoning it is sound and makes a lot of sense.  That coupled with the fact he gets the eye test almost each and every day AND gets to talk to the players and coaches he has a much better feel for who should be in and show might be out than the average TBD'er.  Just saying......

No way they only keep Knox and Gilliam at TE.

Dont see Jake Kumerow, Marquez Stevenson, Isaiah Hodgins all making the roster. One or tow of them max.

LB Dodson is making the team

Side note - He doesnt even have Fromm on practice squad. Some out there think he has trade value...

Were you able to read the whole article?

I didn't myself. I mean thread was about his 53 man prediction that was listed without having to click link. Was it a 2nd prediction on the linked article or something?

That's the problem with posting articles that need a sub. A lot of people don't have a sub, so when the story is behind the paywall, all they see is the roster and there are def some questions marks that need explaining.

His reasoning with some of the omissions is that they can Andre Roberts them, ie handshake deal after another player hits IR.

Dodson needs to be on the roster with the way Milano always gets injured.  We need 6 LBs.  At one point last year, I think we had 7 or 8.

Hodgins doesn't need to be on this team.  I don't get the obsession with him.

Doyle doesn't deserve to be on team.

Those are not super bowl caliber CBs.  Scary thin.

How did he write this roster with 1 TE on it.
