OFFICIAL: LB Darron Lee signed to Bills PS

I still say our defense would be the best fit for him — and best chance for him to reach his considerable potential — of any NFL scheme he’s played in so far.

He’s exactly the type of mid season scrap heap find Beane has had success with in the past.

From March 11, 2019:

The New York Jets are looking to upgrade the linebacker spot, and the NY Daily News is reporting that the team is likely going to move on from 2016 first-round draft choice Darron Lee.

Lee was drafted out of Ohio State with the 20th overall pick back in 2016 NFL’s Draft, but in the two seasons in the Big Apple he’s not had the impact the team was hoping for.

Last season he appeared in 12 games, intercepting three passes including taking one back for a touchdown in the Jets season opening win against the Detroit Lions.

He ended the season with 74 tackles, 43 of which were solo. He was suspended on December 7th of last season due to a PED violation.

In he started 15 games at linebacker for the Jets, recording 94 tackles with three sacks and two forced fumbles.

Lee is set in 2019 to enter the final year of his rookie deal, which is set to pay him $1.8 million. The Jets have to decide within the next two months if they are going to pick up his fifth-year option, which would be worth up to about $10 million next season, a salary the Jets clearly won’t be picking up.

I like the way you phrased the last paragraph😁

I was not a fan out of college - felt he was too small to do what he was being asked.  As a depth and a coverage LB, this may work.  As a starter, no thanks.

As a guy drafted No. 20 overall and now bouncing around to his 3rd team in only 4 years, you would have to define his career so far as an underachieving disappointment.

Maybe he can turn it around, if we take a chance on him.

From the PFF NFL Podcast, Steve Palazzolo and Sam Monson discuss Darron Lee. Steve and Sam dive into Darron's career grades when playing in coverage to paint a full picture in contrast to his 1 year he graded well in coverage.

But what are his PFF grades???!!!

Watch the video I posted above; it's pretty interesting.  3 years of data suggests he's pretty horrible in pass coverage.  Near the bottom of the group who have enough reps to qualify for the analysis.

I mean, probably nothing, but any chance to take a Jet’s trash heap player and make him a superstar.

Not gonna hold my breath about a guy with that much talent who wasn’t able to be used by Todd Bowles, and Steve Spagnola, two of the better Defensive minds in the league.

Hes been pretty bad. Jets and Chiefs fans hate him.

Maybe he can be that a big nickel/hybrid role. Id guess practice squad?

Best way for Bills to do it.  Put him on PS and when ready call him up for a try as long as they can before signing him to 53.

Klein looks like a liability in coverage and lost is gap fill. Honestly not really sure what Klein brings to the table. So far he has looked like Tarzan and played like Jane.

Klein had a nice strip in the KC but other than that he is ass in coverage and mediocre against the run. He was a complete waste of 6 million and he carries a 4 million dollar dead cap. Him and Butler were complete zero signings. Beane's worst missteps this off-season.

Good! No world beater, but we saw how important speed/coverage ability is to this defense from our LBs when Milano went down and we didn’t have it on the outside. Lee certainly has that. I like Dodson, but the guy is hurt as often as Milano this year. I only ever want to see AJ Klein on special teams.

I like it. Hopefully he is actually active and plays. Not just a roster spot that is rotting away like TJ Yeldon. A guy that can help but is just inexplicably inactive every week.

Yeldon is solid depth. He is inactive because he doesn't contribute on special teams. IF Moss or Singletary go down having a solid back that can step in like Yeldon is a plus.

Is Klein even a plus on special teams?

I mean at least he can move, which is more than AJ Klein can do.

AJ Klein makes Darren Lee look like a first ballot HOFer.

Yeah, yeah. I know used the same line in that Edmunds thread, but if the Klein fits...
