Niagara Bill
We have all seen the video of some guy banging on the back of the airplane seat, presumably because he is pissed at the women for putting her seat in recline position. She said she waited for the meal........He said yada yada...everyone debates the 32 inches between seats, is it proper to recline during meals, or only on overnight flights, or flights longer than 4 hours etc. etc. Here is real issue. Would this punk have the balls to do that to a guy. It looks to me like he is a bully to the women in front of him. My glass of red wine would have been all over that sob if I had been in that seat. WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

Nextmanup
My position is that anyone who reclines their seat *at all* let alone all the way on an airplane ride is a total douche. We all know how much it sucks to have that seat go back in front of us, we are all in the same boat stuffed in there like sardines to begin with, and then to just say "F YOU!" and go full recline is, as I wrote, a total douche move. 3 1

shrader
I witnessed probably the rudest moment of seat etiquette the last time I flew. The second he sat down, this 20-something kid in the aisle across from me put his knees up on the back of the seat, at around his chest level, and gave a good push. Over the course of the flight (fortunately a short one) he continued to slouch further and further down. By the end of the flight, his ass was completely off the end of his seat. Meanwhile, this super timid college aged girl was in front of him, was clearly frustrated, but wouldn't say anything. Meanwhile, the flight attendant walked by several times too and didn't bother to do anything. I'm probably an ass for not saying anything, but I wasn't going to cause a scene. Miyagi-Do Karate
Those two people were infantile. I also think there is more to the story because the lady was issued a written warning that she would be prosecuted for unruly behavior. That said, my own personal rule is: (1) I never recline Out of courtesy to others; (2) but there is nothing preventing others from reclining.
Marv's Neighbor
If the airlines would remove the last row of seats, on all types, and give people a little more leg room, maybe this "problem" would go away. On the other hand, why not just disable the recline feature from the seats. If people are too immature to properly manage it, just take it away. Not sure it would be missed. 1
shrader
I think all airlines should put spikes on the top of the seats to prevent the "pull down on the back of the seat in order to stand up" maneuver. 1
BUFFALOKIE
I'm a taller guy, and I have no problem with the person in front of me reclining. I mean, I already have no legroom, and the reclined seat changes nothing. And hell yes, I recline too.
Needle
I have reclined and have had others recline in front of me. It never bothered me and I never would have thought it was being rude to others. I don't fully understand the complaint of losing a couple inches of dead space. It seems like plenty of people agree that it's rude, so that's enough for me to ditch it.
bdutton
If the airlines did not want you to recline they would not have installed seats that recline. If you don't like it then ***** off. 2

Buffalo_Gal
The recline option should be taken away in the back of the bus. As people get larger, seat area gets smaller. The airlines having a seat recline with ####### fliers out there is what the problem is. You want to recline? Buy a business/first ticket. 1
AlCowlingsTaxiService
Seating arrangements on airplanes nowadays pretty much suck azz any way you slice it. I don’t find the extra space reclining takes to be an I issue, as simple geometry dictates that the bottom of the seat is the axis and barely moves, while the headrest area might move back two inches max. In my estimation, dude is a douche and would have been dealt with accordingly.

Kirby Jackson
So glad that you brought this topic up!! It’s something that we need to discuss. My opinion is going to be weak though. They are both a-holes. I fly a decent amount (probably a trip and a half a month) and am a regular sized man. I will NEVER recline my seat because I hate when someone does it to me. No one likes that. If everyone took the “do unto others” approach we’d never have to worry about reclined seats. Now the guy is just an a-hole. It would be one thing if he quickly bumped it pretty hard “inadvertently” sending a message. The pettiness of the constant banging shows that he needs to get a life. So to recap: seat recliner person = terrible punch seat recliner person = terrible person that tries to deplane prior to their row = worse than the other 2 4

SinceThe70s
My Airplane Seat Incident: I don't like when I get reclined on and I try not to recline on others. But it is what it is. Last summer a guy in front of me turned around and asked me whether I minded if he reclined. For the first time ever, I didn't mind at all.
Gray Beard
On some of the smaller jets, if you recline then the bottom of the seat shifts forward so you’re losing your own leg room. I think that is a clever way to allow you to recline with minimal impact on the people behind you. I rarely recline my seat, unless it’s a long night time flight and practically everybody reclines. Just Jack
I will recline just enough so I'm not sitting straight up.
GaryPinC
My last few flights have been on United and seems like they cut the amount of recline to like one inch from two. It seems much less than before and more tolerable. Anyone else notice this? I only recline if I intend to rest and straighten it up when I'm not. Only thing that I dislike is the person that keeps it reclined every possible moment like it's their right to monopolize that extra space.

A young lady at my gate was clearly VERY anxious. She was from WNY and moving back to Florida after a brief try to live in WNY again. Her anxiety was beyond “normal”, if you know what I mean. It touched me. Anyway, she was a row ahead and afraid she would not make her connection in Atlanta as an inexperienced flier. ATL can be intimidating. As soon as the seat belt off ding happened at the gate I jumped up, went a couple rows back to my carry-on apologizing to one guy that I was trying to help someone else catch a connection. (I had all day, I was just headed to the Uber lot.) Apparently people heard my quick apology and explanation (I even got a “well done”), and the aisle parted so I could get this young lady to her terminal and gate. It was beautiful and made me feel better about us as a group. I honestly have never seen anything like that getting off a plane. I hope she’s OK. . LB3
I like to recline as far back as humanly possible. I even sit up in the seat so that I can bend my head back over the edge of the seat so that the person seated behind me has lock eyes with me if they feel like looking forward. teef
as most have mentioned, it's just a matter of being considerate. i'm not a big person, so it never bothers me when someone reclines. that being said, i always think they're *****. i many recline just a hair for my back's sake, but like just jack mentioned, it's only so i'm not sitting straight up. i've had good luck lately on planes with people around me. we've taken small kids on flights, and other passengers have been helpful, understanding, and even complimentary. one lady even offered to watch my daughter while we took things off the plane. it goes both ways. on another flight when i was by myself, i had an isle in a three seat row. one guy was in the window seat and the middle was open. sure enough a guy who was in the 6'3"-6'4" range, with a broken leg, on crutches, was our middle seat friend. i wasn't going to make that guy sit in the middle, so i offered him my seat. with the look of gratitude he gave me, you would have thought I offered him my wife.
