I could easily see him beating out Croom considering that Knox is making the team and is lanky and athletic. Kroft is a little of both receiver and blocker, and Tommy Sweeney (he should always be called Tommy Sweeney) the tough plugger who is a reliable short receiver and blocker.

Lurker
17. TOMMY SWEENEY | Boston College 6044 | 251 lbs. | rSR. Ramsey, N.J. (Don Bosco Prep) #89 BACKGROUND: A two-star tight end recruit out of high school, Thomas “Tommy” Sweeney was a starting tight end in football and forward in basketball at Don Bosco Prep. He was a dual threat receiver-blocker as a senior and caught 27 passes for 539 yards and five touchdowns in 2013, earning First Team All-County and Honorable Mention All-State honors. Sweeney ranked as the No. 50 recruit in New Jersey and finished with only two offers: Boston College and FCS-level Delaware. He accepted his invitation to the 2019 Senior Bowl. WEAKNESSES: Sluggish in/out of his breaks and struggles to consistently uncover…mediocre route speed…one-gear runner and not going to fool defenders with his listless acceleration…average point-of-attack strength and won’t turn defenders as a blocker…leaky in pass protection, allowing rushers to go through his outside shoulder…tall in his sets and would benefit from better knee bend…averaged only 2.1 receptions per start over his college career. SUMMARY: A four-year starter at Boston College, Sweeney was an inline tight end in the Eagles’ pro-style offense, a scheme he was groomed in since high school. He wasn’t super productive for a player with his number of starts, but he leaves Boston College as one of only seven tight ends to reach the 1,000-yard receiving mark. With an average athletic profile, Sweeney almost always has a defender on his hip, but he catches everything thrown his way with terrific focus and sticky hands away from his frame. While competitive as a blocker, he isn’t powerful and has little margin of error with his fundamentals. Overall, Sweeney is a tough, well-rounded “Y” tight end, but nothing about his game is exceptional, projecting as an NFL reserve who will need to compete for a backup role. Kroft and Knox barring injury are locks. Croom does one thing pretty good. That's it. Since Knox can get downfield, I see no real use for a guy like Croom unless he has a killer camp and got substantially better. Most teams keep different kinds of TEs. Knox is Croom but a better blocker and higher upside.

My bet is that if someone isn’t injured that Sweeney gets put on the practice squad. Pretty cut and dry

Pretty cut and dry I think they keep 6 WR because one of them will be Roberts, and it's almost a given they will keep 4 RBs with Singletary. Likely no room for four TEs. Most teams keep three. Kroft and Knox are locks. That leaves one spot for Croom or Tommy Sweeney and maybe Fisher but I doubt it. Croom is very limited, and Knox does what Croom does, so they are redundant as players. Tommy Sweeney is a little different and more versatile, so he could easily stay.

WR-6 TE-4 OT-4 G-3 C-2 Offense: 27 DE:4 DT:4 LB:6 CB:6 S:4 Defense: 24 K:1 P:1 LS:1 Special Teams: 3 Thats 54 total, leads to one cut. I could see one offensive lineman being cut. I could see a fullback being cut. I could see a corner being cut. I could see them going with 3 safeties and keeping a flex corner, or the other way around. I could see them going with 5 linebacker instead of 6 as well. i really think you’ll see 4 tight ends make the roster.

Victory Formation
Outside of Oliver, Ford and Singletary, this guy is my favorite pick, my dark horse to make the final 53. I'd prefer him over Croom. Kroft, Knox and Sweeney is whom I wish to make the final 53. Reminds me of an Anthony Fasano type player, not a Nick O'Leary.

Houston's #1 Bills Fan
I've always heard it said, that a good Tight End is a QB's best friend. What I see out of this guy is a big, tall target that doesn't drop the ball (hello Clay) and moves the sticks. Yes, we need blazers and slippery RB's. But, I'll take reliable, sure hands all day long. I like the pick!

But in terms of athletic ability and potential, some have him equal to Hockenson. He's not a headscratcher, he's a good pick.
