Houston traded Osweiler to Cleveland

Recommended Posts

I didn;t read all 11 pages in this thread but when was the last time, in the NFL, any team traded a player and give the other team a hight draft pick, first time in recent history I can recall this, very very very unusual to say the least

I mean think about it, would you trade Dareus and then include a 2nd round draft pick, it's, well, CRAZY....

jc

First off: AM is a great record. Second: read pages 8 onward.

they basically paid 16 million for a 2018 2nd Rd pick, IMO, not smart use of money

You have to remember that the Browns are forced to spend to the cap floor, which they are nowhere near. This trade, which can be legitimately viewed as a waste of money in real terms, benefits them as they are not forced to enter into bad contracts to reach the cap floor - bad contracts that may screw them in future years. They have to spend the money either way, might as well spend it on someone they're not obligated to commit to for more than a season.

Playing the short game, this benefits them by coming closer to hitting the cap floor without committing to anything beyond 2017. In the long-term, it *may* benefit them, depending on what they do with their 2017 6th and 2018 2nd.

Any contributions Osweiler makes (assuming he's not just cut) are a bonus.

The cap floor is calculated using cash spent - not cap space - over a rolling period of several seasons. The Browns were already over the minimum limit before this all started.

What do you mean? They took the contact and got a 2nd round pick. They have a ton of money to spend and can cut Brock after the season. They basically bought a 2nd round pick.

Exactly.

What I find crazy is that Houston thinks so little of Brock Osweiler that they would give Cleveland a second round pick just to take him. Lol.

Bills fans once again price they have no clue.

Cleveland started out with 115m in cap space. They got a second round pick to get rid some of their cap space. Houston gained cap space but had to throw in a significant draft pick.

Cleveland now has 2 1st, 3 2nds in this years draft and 22 picks in next 2 drafts.

Yep they are clueless.

I keep reading that Cleveland will use a 1st and the 2nd they got from Houston to get Garappolo....that would not not be good at all......NE getting more picks is a bad thing...

question is, where is he going?

He got hacked, reportedly.

I guess that could be. not as if it doesn't occur. but I'm thinking it's not a hack?

do you have a source saying he was hacked?

never mind, I see a few reports of the possible hack. although some believe it may not be? bb may of got on his ass and had him take it down?

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported around 7 a.m. on Friday that Garoppolo’s account had been hacked and the post was a hoax — although it remained online.

inquiring minds would like to know

The hacking thing always seems suspicious to me. Most the time I think they had a few drinks and probably posted something they normally wouldn't have. But W/E Jimmy!

they paid big for that 2nd Rd pick and got a useless QB

Neither the Bills nor their fans fans have any right to criticize any other team for, like, the next 100 years. Good lord the Bills are the epitome of failure, but everyone jumps on the Browns. Makes one laugh

Osweiler loses in State income tax since Texas doesn't have one and Ohio does.

Note that income tax is based on where games are played. So he'll be out about $400k on that $16M. One caveat, states with no income tax often have increased taxes in other areas - property, local, sales - to get their revenue. And then there is cost of living, etc. Not sure about any of that in this case.

This reminds me of an MLB prank. The managers told two young players that they'd been traded from LA to Montreal (when the Expos were there). The players were reeling from the thought of going from the likes of Hollywood to middle of nowhere Canada when Lasorda sympatheticly deadpan s "Wow, that's a huge pay cut going to Canadian dollars." It was hilarious.

Why are Bills fans fascinated with chasing a wild card for multiple decades?

For many fans. A wildcard game is considered wild success. And that is win or lose. Well it is if you win and continue

on in the playoffs. That is a pipe dream. until Whaley is gone. And someone comes in a builds a team

for long term success. Understands positional depth. The current roster which a week ago needed 45 players signed to field the pre season 90 man roster. All signed on a small cap number. In part due to horrid cap management. And overpaying both homegrown talent and FA's. And letting guys like Woods just walk because of their complete incompetence. Wake up Pegs!

In reality a championship caliber Bills team is a long way off. No matter how many here believe it simply

Tyrods responsability. Man they don't even have a kicking unit signed. How the eff Crossman is still here

is a head scratcher. This could be a painful year. Like the past 16+.

imo

Brock Osweiller at one time was someone's draft darling. Someone a poster swore the Bills would rue passing on. Please keep that in mind when you read how there are at least 6 franchise QBs in the upcoming draft.

What is everyone's fascination with tanking?

Failure porn. We get off on it.

Between 2017 and 2018 the Browns have 8 picks in the 1st two rounds, not bad.

The Browns also started 6 QB's last year I believe, Osweiller is a big boy, maybe he can stay healthy.

With all of those picks next year they can get in the Sam Darnold sweepstakes.

Ohio maximum rate is 5.33%. 9 of his games his games are in Ohio. That's 480k plus the out of town games which cost (based on last year's schedule) about 355k for total of 835k a year.

Fla probably the athlete's best bet.

Wow a brilliant move by the Browns? They get a 2nd round pick to take a salary cap dump off another team. That is awesome!!!

....LMAO...they gave him a spot in VISITOR'S PARKING lot..............

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports the Browns are "trying to shop" Brock Osweiler.

Emphasis on trying. There's been lots of conjecture on what the Browns plan to do with their newly-acquired piece of bad debt, but it doesn't seem like they will give it a chance to start. Osweiler is likely to either be released or dealt. The smart money is on released, making Osweiler a true NBA acquire-and-buyout acquisition.

Jim Miller was speculating on Sirius today that if Osweiler gets cut he could wind up with the Bills (as a backup) based on the Dennison connection.

Sam Darnold

i could see that

me too, he did well with Dennison, guess Cleveland was going for more picks. it will be interesting to see who they take with all those picks and how they perform. If it works everyone will be tanking and rebuilding as a normal thing.
