Super Bowl LVIII Pre Game Thread

Greetings. I realize that interest is at a low going into tomorrow. but it IS the super bowl. Do you all have any plans? Get togethers?

 

I am hosting a few friends for a pot luck. I'm making air fryer wings, celery, carrots, blue cheese. A family recipe for brownies for dessert.  The rest will be yummy too

 

I'll watch the game. And I hope the 49ers can pull it off and win. I can't stand much more chiefs hype. it's already in overdrive as far as Im concerned

Most likely for the first time in my life, I am not going to watch it. Usually within my circle of friends, myself or someone else will plan something and we watch.  Even If I don't care about the teams, it's social.  This year, no one made any plans and I did not care to initiate any.  If it stays that way, I am content to watch something else.

 

This is not the first year where I absolutely cannot get behind either team, but something is different this year.  This season was draining and the least enjoyable that I can remember.  The bad officiating, Excessive play stoppages and commercials, the flood of gambling commercials, the story line of "will Taylor Swift make it across the globe in time on her private jet"?  Enough is enough, I am not interested.  I don't intend to be preachy or say that others should do this, just my personal choice.

I won't be shocked if this Super Bowl has (relatively) very low numbers. 

NFL fans have Chiefs fatigue, and their opponent has 5 Lombardi trophies themselves (and was in a Super Bowl just a few years ago)

 

These may be the two worst possible teams to have in this game, from an interest perspective. 

 

I honestly think Bills-Lions would have drawn record viewership because of how different/new it would have been.

 

I'll watch, because its the last NFL football we will have for 7 months, but I won't be all that interested in anything other than the Chiefs hopefully losing.

I have Chiefs fatigue too just like I had with the Patriots.... but to say I won't watch the Super Bowl because I'm salty the Bills aren't in it is absurd.  If you're a fan of NFL football you will watch it.   My older two kids are at college, so it will be me with my younger daughter and wife hanging out.  No big parties this year.  I prefer to watch at home anyway.  I think KC will win but rooting for the 49ers.  If Brock Purdy can beat Mahomes/Spags in the biggest of games...big props to him.

Disagree.  Niners are a huge market + the swifities will make this the most watched SB of all time

Zero reason to believe this won't have huge viewership number. I'll be watching and hating every second of it.

Hate the Chefs........only watching the Superb Owl because I love football, and hopefully to see the Chefs fail miserably and lose to San Francisco.

I’m thinking that I’m not going to watch. I say that kind of thing from time to time but always relent. This year is different. I did not watch one snap of the championship games and haven’t turned on NFL Network in a month (did watch senior bowl practices). This year is dead to me. I have about $400 of squares and hopefully someone texts me that I won. 
 

I don’t care who wins. I don’t care who plays well. I don’t care what this does for anyone’s legacy. Hopefully everyone has fun with their family and friends. This game just isn’t for me. I’ll be ready for the combine. ✌️to the 2023 season

I'll be watching the Super Bowl at my house this year. I usually go to other places to watch, but this year, I plan to watch with my immediate family with various snacks....which reminds me that I need to go stock up now.....thanks!

I will be watching at home.  Will record it and start watching about 8ish after the kids go to bed.  99% sure the Chiefs will win, just because, so I am not super thrilled to watch it but will because I always watch the SB

I have no idea if available but at big odds I’d go with a KC defender like Jones or McDuffie for MVP.

I am sure I’ll watch some of the Super Bowl. But to be honest I have a really difficult time watching the chiefs play now. I just can’t seem to get over the fact that the Bills handed them the final piece to their dynasty (Mahomes), for relatively cheap too.

 

I know it does me no good holding onto this, but it’s hard to let go of until Buffalo can actually beat them when it matters (in the playoffs). And it’s not that I’m pining for Mahomes. I love Josh Allen. It’s just that I can’t help but think about how much different life could be for the Bills if they hadn’t made that trade with KC.

New Orleans was set to draft Mahomes at pick #11. Imagine not having to go through Reid/Mahomes every single year for the foreseeable future…

 

I guess I just really thought this was the year that the Bills would finally make it past KC in the playoffs. I am still not over that loss.

The way the 49ers won both of their playoff games, it just seems like they are destined to win.  However, they are playing the ultimate team of destiny.  Tough call but I think KC takes this one 24-20.

I have no faith in Shanahan.  He has blown two Superbowls by getting away with what got them leads in the 4th quarter.  I'm afraid he's going to do it again.

But the “X market is large” doesn’t work for Super Bowls. Because those markets tend to watch whether their team is in the game or not.

I was watching a cooking show (grilled mushrooms) and something intrigued me. I got mushrooms and thought I had most of the rest of the marinade. True, I was only missing a few things, but much of what I do have had expired. I thought having to get 7 more things was a lot for one dish, since after I take a few teaspoons I’ll wait for expiration day again. All worth it though if we find a great recipe for our vegetarian DIL! I like the experimenting. 

 

I’ll grill those tomorrow and watch Netflix or something until football is being PLAYED.

I was on the fence about even watching the game this year but ultimately decided I'll watch it but definitely had no interest in going to any Super Bowl parties or inviting people over or anything like that this year.  Part of it is probably just getting older haha

I am in Argentina and there is no interest in the game here.

 

I took a 16 year old nephew through a 21 minute highlight package of last year’s Superbowl game on YouTube to explain the rules of the game to him.

 

He is now even less interested.

 

Monday and Tuesday are holidays here for Carnival so a party would set up nicely here.

I suspect it will be a family asado here and retire to my hotel room to watch the second half of the game in Spanish if the game is close.

 

We are two hours ahead so a 8:25 PM start here gets me in front of a TV around 10:30 PM.

I'm getting together with a former neighbour. He and I have watched the last twenty Superbowls together save for the height of the pandemic. It's more out of tradition and friendship than my interest in the game.

 

Winning back to back titles is the most difficult thing in sports so I'm very surprised that the Chiefs made it on that basis alone. Now that they are in, I can't see them losing. I enjoyed the playoffs this year but the air went out of my balloon after the Bills lost. I still hold some pride that we will have shown to have given the Chiefs their biggest challenge. The 49ers essentially backed in after the Packers and Lions let them hang around (as the song says) out of kindness I suppose. I respect Andy Reid as one of the game's great coaches and expect him to retire if he wins.

 

I'm going to give the UFL a long look this offseason. As the NFL drowns in its own greed, I'm starting to feel dirty like I'm supporting Monsanto or Big Tobacco by devoting so much time to it. I'm coming up on two years retired and am feeling the importance of using time meaningfully.

It's been reported that the 10 highest money wagers on the game are all on the 49ers.  That said, while I won't be near the highest wagers on the game, I'll be on the other side for sure.  The NFL wants nothing more than Taylor Swift celebrating on their field at the end of the game. No way do they want to show her pouting and crying at the end of the game. The Chiefs win this one, unfortunately.

 

Obviously, nobody wants the Chiefs to win, especially me.  I will be hate watching this game like no other firmly believing that if we were healthy, we would have won that game and beaten Baltimore who I think is a little overrated.  We just make 1 or 2 more plays in that game as it is, we win. If we were healthy, I really think we would have won and it maybe would have been by more than 1 score. 

 

But alas, here we are left wondering because it always seems to be something that turns up at the worst possible time that gets in our way.  A coaching meltdown with 13 seconds left.  A player dying on the field and throwing the team into emotional overload.  Injuries the week before to key players in a game that shouldn't have even been as close as it was.

 

As frustrating as it is on our end, though, when you love the game of football as much as I, and many people on this board do, there is no way not to watch.  So, I will be putting my money on the Chiefs moneyline hoping I lose the bet.  But if I'm right, and the NFL gets what they want, at least my wallet will be better off for it.  But, that said, here's to losing my money!!!!!  GO BILLS!

I’m going the other way myself. Seems like the 49ers are destined to win this season. It’s crazy that KC made it as far as they did this year with what they have. It’ll be even harder to knock them off next season as they will undoubtedly be better.

If a team scores 24 points they will win. Both teams won't break 20. Special teams are disciplined. Turnovers may happen. Defenses are stout. Unless shannahan can do more than Reid it won't be much. Reid has mahomes, pacheko, and Pfizer-Swift. Shannahan has CMC, Samuel, whatshisnameTE, and more weapons.

 

It will be 20-13 or something final.

I had a dream that the 49ers were beating the chiefs 21-7 at halftime. They were clobbering them. Like a Seahawks Vs Broncos Super Bowl smash down. I was upset the dream ended at halftime. Mahomes was getting hit hard and getting thrown around like a rag doll

I mean you're not wrong with everything you're saying here. You can't have an opinion on anything unless it is the popular pushed opinion (example- Aaron Schats) and yet we're all told to "be true to ourselves" and "you be you". This is our culture. You can say something but be prepared for hell to rain down by keyboard warriors.

Im not surprised that Taylor Swift is being discussed. She is seemingly unescapable as she treks around the world on her private jet from tour to NFL game spectator. 

 

The fascination with her and the sheer influence and power she wields is to me staggering.

 

I would very much like a "Taylor Swift" filter blocker on my feeds.  She and her Red lips are officially on my nerves. Too much is too much

 

I am Not dissing her by saying this. She is an Icon and self made billionaire.  Just the amount of media. yeah Im Over it.
