Can Buffalo catch the Dolphins?

Not quite sure what you mean.  It sounds like you think the Bills have to win out AND the Dolphins have to lose out.  The Bills need to win out and the Dolphins only need to lose one more game plus the Buffalo game.  Or the Dolphins need to add 1 more loss for every Bills loss and lose to Buffalo.

I stand corrected. I screwed the math up

The Bills SHOULD catch Miami at this point. I know that there are no “sure things” but I’d be shocked if the Bills lost to Easton Stick or Bailey Zappe in “must-win” games. This week will be tough but they are playing Dallas at the right time. Last week was a huge emotional win for Dallas vs. their hated rival. This week has to be a bit of a letdown from an emotion standpoint. It’s a bit of a trap game for Dallas.

Miami is not beating the Jets, Baltimore and Dallas. They will lose at least one of those. That means that the Bills play for the division in early January.

Dallas is in their own battle for the top of the division so it’s going to be a slug fest. Having home field advantage is huge for Buffalo. If they make it past the Cowboys then I think they win out. Definitely more worried about this game than the season finale.

The bills have a lot of solid defensive players that are pretty well rounded.  Douglas/benford have quietly been playing really well too.

the dolphins are bizarre they’ve got a good corner,an ok corner, and then a whole bunch of pass rush specialist linebackers lol

In 2021, we ranked #1 in the NFL in yards allowed.

In 2022, with some key injuries, we still managed a solid #6 ranking.

This year, we're ranked #14 which places us in the middle of the pack.   The Fins are ranked #9.  Neither D is special but, statistically, theirs is better.

I wish I was this optimistic. I will say that if that KC game was an indication that we are peaking at the right time, a BIG if, then things are lining up nicely for us to win the Division.

I’m not ready to say that’s the case. Beat Dallas and now we are taking about a team that is starting to roll. I think and hope the team is just taking it one game at a time.

If Miami loses to the Jets, they are going to collapse with the pressure like they always do. Still, even if they lose their next 3 and we win the next 3 we still have to win in Miami to take the Division.

So, one game at a time. Beat Dallas and I’ll start to believe we are peaking at the right time.

I’m hoping McDermott can quiet all the criticism, finish this season strong, and go on a deep playoff run. I know they’ve been trying to protect Josh and they have for the most part, but it’s time to let him loose for the remainder of the season.

Individually there’s a lot of talent in the Miami defense.  They had been playing previously - even holding KC to 14 points but they offered little resistance on Monday when it mattered - which was bizarre.

I’m not certain some of the talent he inherited is a perfect match for the Fangio scheme.

If he's so good, why is he available to be signed now?

I don't know. I didn't ask him. Sometimes guys will wait until late to join a contender. He had opportunity in the off-season. But why he didn't sign...shoot send him a text I can't answer for him.

Yes and no.  He’ll be good for a few reps but there’s also a reason he was on his couch until week 13.  The gap between Ingram and Phillips in 2023 is wide

Agree. Didn't mean to infer he would be a direct 1:1 replacement. But he will definitely help in likely 12-15 situational snaps a game.

The Cowboys are a well built team but I haven't seen all the games and I think a lot of their hype this week is due to their humbling of the Eagles on national TV. Was it their best game of the year? In which they are ripe for a letdown. One can argue the same for the Bills but we have much more to lose than the Cowboys.

They're on a 5 game win streak and are in a 3 way tie for the #1 seed in the NFC so they have something to play for ... as do the Bills. Should be a good game, hopefully the Bills win and the Cowboys take it out on another AFC East team.

We allow more yards and fewer points.  They allow fewer yards and more points.  Buffalo has allowed 180 more yards this year on fewer plays, but 50 fewer points.

Reasons are - We're better in the red zone, and we get more takeaways.  They're better on 3rd downs, and their rush defense is better.  Buffalo blitzes a bit more, but they have the same number of sacks and pretty similar stats across the board the rest of the way.

This is great though because it will keep the Bills on point for these next 4 games.  No time for any let downs.

Buffalo has tough opponents, especially Dallas, and so does Miami.  Miami has lost a critical ingredient on their offensive line, center Conner Williams, for probably the rest of the season.  After he left the game Sunday, Tua was sacked 5 times.  If Buffalo can run the table, they have a realistic chance.  That's a big "iif" though.

I disagree. I think Miami will absolutely split one between the Ravens and Cowboys.

Are the Eagles hype or are the Cowboys just that good?

Anything is possible but I give it a 10% chance.  They haven't beaten a good team all year and are the most injured they've been.

Anyone know the furthest down the list this has ever gotten?

Nope. If the Fins go 2-2, they end at 11-6.  If the Bills go 3-1, they end at 10-7.  There is no tiebreaker.

Correct,  my apologies. What I was really focused on was the next three games. As you mentioned, was we can only drop this Cowboys game and still win the division if Dolphins lose 2 of the next 3.  Which is possible with them playing Dallas and Baltimore, but not a sure thing at all. We likely will need to win out to win the division (or at least have Miami lose to the Jets if we lose to Dallas)

The Miami loss opens the door.  They also lost their center and appear not to be able to protect their QB with the backup.  The Dallas game is critical.  Winning out is the only way for Buffalo to win the division, and Dallas is the biggest hurdle.

The Bills don't have to win out to win the division.  They just need to finish with the same record as Miami and beat them in the season finale or win at least 1 more game than them.

Cue the Dolphins December swoon for the umpteenth time in the last few decades.  The question shouldn't be "Can the Bills catch the Dolphins?",  the question really should be "What makes you think they won't after what you have see over the past 20 years from the Dolphins in December?"

The weather in Miami is supposed to be terrible on Sunday. Pouring rain and 30MPH winds by kickoff time. Maybe the wet field will slow the Dolphins down. I would have to think a muck it up type of game favors the Jets with that defense. Also, Tua doesn't exactly have the strongest arm so those winds could also play a factor.
