BigDingus
I'm in shock... Just got an email from work with the subject line "about the school shooting," and about had a heart attack. I work at a a Texas Elementary School, so it quickly hit me how close to home this is. Especially after what happened in Buffalo, it's like all aspects of life are being touched by gun violence, & it's truly devastating. Nowhere is safe anymore, I just wish we could put tribalism aside & come together to find a solution.

Ours does, but I see people think they're being polite holding the door open for others all the time, especially end of day when people are coming to pick up their kids.

Andy1
How many more must die in mass shootings? Other countries have mental illness too and don’t have children slaughtered in school or people slaughtered in grocery stores. Your entire family is more likely to get struck by lightning. The one common thread with most of these public mass shootings is young males are the shooters. All debate on solutions really should be centered around figuring out why that is. Edited May 25, 2022 by Doc Brown

That's true but it was easier to buy these weapons 30 years ago than it is now. Yet we have significantly more public mass shootings. Why is that? Yet we have significantly more public mass shootings. Why is that? It's a social epidemic. It's now ingrained in the national consciousness. Back in the 70s and 80s and 90s there were a bunch of copycat serial killers. The modern version of that is mass shooters. A certain type of young angry male decides to go out in what they consider to be a blaze of glory because they know they'll get attention. I'm usually big on attacking the root of a problem but I don't think there's a cure for this particular root. We have to enact policies that make it more difficult for these murderers to carry out their plans. Anyone proposing a one-size-fits-all policy is deluding themselves. If every school in America had security locks where visitors had to be buzzed in today's shooting wouldn't have happened. If kids that made violent threats were blacklisted from gun purchases for a couple years the Tops shooting wouldn't have happened. Etc. Everyone focuses so heavily on one specific version of gun control and the endless debate gets us nowhere. We have to enact a wide range of basic security policies that 99% of people would readily agree with. But instead we choose the political gridlock and rehash the conversation every time another shooting happens.
