Dalvin cook is holding out for a new contract/ rumored that he might be up for trade

What’s with all these suspect RBs holding out? I can sort of understand a guy like Zeke or Leveon Bell holding out.

But guys like Melvin Gordon and dalvin cook? Cook has exactly 1 good season, in which he played in 14 games.  Does he seriously think Minnesota will pay him?

RBs need to realize that their position just doesn’t have the pay potential as other ones. Holding out isn’t fooling anyone.

If you are going to hold out you also need to have more than 1 good season. If Cook was coming off of back to back very good to great seasons and had one more year left on his deal I would say you could at least hold out under the idea of "I have proven what I am." Cook hasn't proven he is able to stay on the field consistently and produce yet he wants a new deal?

The gaul to say you want a deal after one good season at a less than premium position is just laughable. If you were a QB who had one really good season a team would want to see you sustain success, a RB hoping for a big deal after one good season is just barking up the wrong tree.

flip side is he absolutely proved his talent and is at a position where you can’t wait to get paid.

Would you trade for Dalvin cook? He is friends with Diggs and even commented how much it hurt to see the Vikings trade Diggs to here.  Maybe Diggs can try to recruit cook?

BB1998, did you not see us drafting Moss after already having Singletary.  Why would we ever trade for a RB when we are set at the position, and our two guys are on rookie contracts.  That makes zero sense.  I understand you’re just floating it, but this won’t happen.  We need to keep our draft assets.  In addition, the cap will go down so we need our draft assets even more.  We also have a number of people to extend like White, Milano, Dawkins, and others.

Running backs are 4 to 5 year commodities now. How many big 2nd contract RBs are currently making the deal worth it for the team? Zeke?

Mcaffrey might as he is basically a WR anyway.

Cook should get on with it and realise has no leverage

He’s an idiot.  I think we’re looking at the next Melvin Gordon if he wants that kind of money.   He’s a very good Rb.  I don’t view him as elite.  The only rb I’d pay more than 7-8 mill a year is an elite RB....I don’t think I’d pay him 10 a year

why is he an idiot? His contract has 1 year left and he wants a new one.

The key point is he really doesn’t have leverage.  If he pulls what Bell did, how did that workout for him?  He lost a $14.5 mil. Contract from Pittsburgh (a good team) for a  $13.5 Mil. Contract and lost $14.5 mil. During his holdout year.  He also ends up on the J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS with a coach who stinks and oh by the way doesn’t want him for the $, and didn’t use him the right way.  He will go into oblivion and lose tons of $ by the time he’s done.

Cook can get a decent contract in 2021 and the dumbest thing is his agent knows MN is tight in the cap which is why they let Diggs go for the picks.  Cook will be lucky to get a high end contract as MN can simply move on and select another RB with one of our draft picks from the trade.  This was not well played by Cook’s agent.

I completely disagree.  Cook has cards here, the Vikings cap situation notwithstanding.

Minnesota is an ok team without Cook, but they're a top tier team with him.  Dalvin is one of the best 3 or 4 backs in football when healthy.  The time for him is now, not after another season of wear and tear.

To be fair to him, if he is bluffing here only, then this may be a decent tactic. But if he actually holds out, then I think he’s not being smart about it. He has no leverage.

From the statements that he (or his agents) have made, it seems like this isn’t a hold-out situation. He keeps saying he wants a “reasonable deal” or “reasonable extension.”

Add him to the bunch.

He'd have everybody else warming his spot on the bench for when he decides to take a breather

No disrespect to Cook or other players, but McCaffrey is so stupidly good that’s a tall ask for all but a couple of players in this league.

Full disrespect meant, McCaffrey is GOAT and all these other guys are chumps in comparison, they deserve only a fraction of what he got because they only have a fraction of his talent:wub:

hard no. He's not even discussed as one of the top backs in the league.

Maybe when he starts producing he can act that way, who does he think he is, Dak?

Um, did you watch football last year?  He most certainly is one of the best rbs in the nfl.  That’s insane to say otherwise.

however, he struggles to stay healthy but he is a stud.  And with the way rbs are treated, every rb should hold out after a productive season.

My bad, I shouldn’t have used the word idiot.  I posted that after talking with my buddy who happens to be a die hard Vikings fan that is a U of Miami alum/booster (Cook is from Miami).  He’s pretty dialed in with the Vikings and the Miami community.  His people are saying that he wants to be the highest paid rb in the league and probably won’t take less that 14 mill a year.  They said he might take as low as 12 a year if it’s a fully gtd 4-5 year deal.

He had one good year.   He was broken for 2 years.  He wants to be one of the highest paid RB.....based on one good year and a torn ACL?

He plays the most undervalued position in the NFL.

He is set to be a free agent in an offseason where there are several top tier RBs also set to be free agents.

His backup was selected 102nd overall last season, had similar advanced stats and looks to be one helluva rb.

under the new cba, if he holdouts and misses training camp, he’ll be a restricted FA instead of an UFA.

melvin Gordon had multiple good years in SD, declined a contract worth 10+ mill, sat out, lost money and signed a contract worth 8 mill a year.

He’s a running back playing in a Gary kubiak scheme.  Of course he’s going to produce.  Everyone produces in that scheme.

All that being said....If he holds out, he’ll be an idiot again.

But if we add Cook we can Legitimately say our running back room would be elite and would be an extra weapon for Josh to throw to

Cook deserves his money, but the Bills shouldn't be paying it.  They have too many contracts coming up.  Tre, Dawkins, Milano, Edmunds and hopefully Allen.  And they have one good RB in Singletary and a potentially good one in Moss.

no rb is getting a fully guaranteed 5 year. Either he’s nuts or more likely your friend isn’t as dialed in as he plays

Another year like 2019 and he'll make a strong case for a big payday.

And he won't get it.

His injury record speaks for itself and unlike McCaffrey he doesn't double up as receiver, so doesn't have that inherent value if he drops off as an RB, and his value is spread across 2 spots because he has a wider role.

The last half decade is littered with RBs not justifying big pay days. If he wants to play that game, he'll go the same way as another talented but injury prone RB, Devonta Freeman.

Problem is, he wants to get paid BEFORE he has his SECOND good season.

History says he won't, but you never know.  And I don't think he'll get anywhere near McCaffrey money.

He might get Gordon money, 2 years 16 million. McCaffrey is being paid as a WR

I think the Vikings will offer him 10-12.  If that gets it done, he’s a smart man.  If he declines that, he’d have made a mistake

I want those too. Doesn’t mean I have any expectation of actually getting them.

I know players are keen to push for the best possible deal but it I'm the Vikings, I'm hesitant to give this dude a huge guaranteed contract. He's never played a full 16 game season. He's missed 19 games in his three year career.

And no, there's no reason to trade for him. Singletary and Moss will be fine.

so you’re saying that cook doesn’t want to be the highest paid rb?  That he might take 14 mill a year and that he’ll take less per year if it’s guaranteed?
