Trumaine Johnson - buy low

He might be #1 on my wish list.

Jets signed him to a horrible deal and then asked him to do something he's not great at, man coverage.

Now they're likely going to drop him: https://www.rotoworld.com/football/nfl/player-news/headlines/9546661

And the NY media hates him: https://nypost.com/2019/10/22/trumaine-johnson-is-stealing-72-million-from-jets-bart-scott/

Good thing that in Buffalo, he would be asked to primarily play zone. He's a high character guy and got paid because he was ELITE in the right defense.

https://elitesportsny.com/2019/09/20/jets-film-room-the-difference-between-trumaine-johnson-nate-hairston/

The best part is his stock value has never been so low. I'd love to see us give him a second chance and lock up our secondary.

Use the draft picks and extra cash on linemen, OLB, and WR/TE.

Thoughts?

I'd rather trade for Josh Jackson in GB. He played a ton and was good as a rookie and his role diminished last year as Pettine implemented more man coverage. I think Jackson can be a stud in Buffalo.

I get the strong impression that he took the money from the Jets and mailed it in. I would question his desire to play football.

I hope the Bills have learned from the Vontae Davis incident.

How would a high character guy get benched for awful practice habits?

Any player who quits on the Jets is a high character guy to me, bro

Even as bad as he was there I’m not 100% sure he will be bought that low. Either way I expect if they want a legit starting corner across from Tre they will go get one. I don’t think any of these Johnson’s are that guy. Decent players. Capable in stretches.

If we're gonna take a flier on a redemption story Corner, I'd prefer Josh Norman.

Yuck.

32 years old. Fined 3+ times for hitting players dirty or mouthing off about officials.

Not to mention he went to war with the Panthers in 2016 when they rescinded his franchise tag.

Who was the Assistant GM for the Panthers in 2016? Brandon Beane.

Who was the Defensive Coordinator for the Panthers in 2016? Sean McDermott.

Very well thought out. You should stick to your "yuck" messages.

Might be a low cost value option. No clue if there’s any validity to him being a cut candidate, but if he is a 6th or 7th rounder would definitely nab him.

Oh, I'm sorry. Did I hurt your feelings?

Norman would be cheap, and his best years (when he was the best corner in the league) came while playing for Mcd. The memory is short in this business, and I guarantee Beane wasn't the reason the tag was pulled- whether or not he agreed with the idea. Johnson was overrated before he got paid, and now he's garbage.

Give me James Bradberry. Fifth year player, young, knows McDermott's system. Is just entering his prime. Also re-sign Kevin Johnson as long as he's not asking for a ton of money.

White
Bradberry
Johnson

Johnson
Wallace
Neal

Giddyup.

I expect he'll be a bit pricey for what we're wanting to commit into the back end considering we're gonna have a star CB, and two safety contracts to do soon (plus Taron before too long as a solid nickle back)... However, if he comes in under 7m a year, he'd be near the top of my FA wish list.

Also let’s not forget Norman’s biggest knock was he was an elite zone corner in Carolina and fell off a cliff when Washington paid him to start playing man all the time. He’s the ultimate buy low veteran

Johnson been absolute trash on the NYJ, sometimes CBs flame out, he's an example

Hence... buying low.  Little to no guarantee - still have wallace.  There's quite a few buy low type candidates.  Buffalo only carried 4 last year for the most part with neal as nickel depth and primary special teams.  There will likely be another on the practice squad.

I'm not opposed to a trumaine johnson, or a jason verrett type of buy low with little to no guarantee.  If they don't make the team out of camp its not harming the team to bring them in.  I'd just like them also to sign someone else thats capable of starting, like a bradberry or something.  4 out of 5 DB spots are locked in, and wallace is still - pretty good.  Why not try and improve that position though and the depth there.  I'd rather write off dead money but end up with a really good player.  Sign 3 and cut 2 - doesn't matter to me!

We do run a lot of zone coverages and I think he could play SS/FS if a starter goes down. For the right price on a 2 to 3 year deal I would be interested.

I just cant get excited about a DB pickup this offseason. bring back kevin Johnson for outside to inside depth and let Wallace keep developing.

Stank, I'd bet there are new faces, good players, competing at every position.  White is safe, but no one else.

you're right. but I personally would like to see kevin Johnson have another year and another go at Wallace this year... I believe that battle would give us a formidable #2 and #3.
