I’m surprised we’re not linking him to Jacksonville. Rivers isn’t really in a position to demand a winning team after the season he just had. I can see the Jags chasing their tail again paying him a monster 2 year deal to save dougs job. Indy makes sense just from the standpoint they are built to win right now.
Tampa I guess, not sure he’s better than Winston there right now. Dolphins would be silly after what Fitz just did for them.
I don’t know that he can really make any kind of impact, I think he’s done. He looked rough this season.

I remember what Fitz did for us before we gave him a long term deal.

Fitz to NE.  It's the only team left in the AFC East.

...easier said than done....they are in a different stratosphere from me.....I'm 66, a widower and scared to death to retire......have no idea what I would do......42 year career, minimal hobbies because of work and my kids live locally so no need to travel to visit......I'm drawing blanks with the "R" word......

What if you were 38 years old, Had a HOF career, had $200M in the bank, wife and 8 kids at home, and could live anywhere in the world you want?

Let’s be honest, with the money Rivers has made to date, it should be invested in ways that makes taxes a completely moot issue.

It’s always a consideration, but the one true fact is California has become a crap hole. I just spent 5 days in Santa Monica and the place is overrun with homeless, Venice looked third world. Those who can leave are...

That would make sense. Winston want too much money. They would have a chance to be a playoff team with Rivers. The Charger are looking like they will be the biggest mess in the NFL.

When you're getting close to retirement you make decisions about things down the road.  It doesn't necessarily mean he won't keep playing in SD.  Also, he may have decided that if worse comes to worse, he'd rather be flooded or blown out than burned out.

His contract is up and he won’t be re-signed (I hear)

I doubt he ends up playing for any of the Florida teams.  Jacksonville has too much invested in Foles.  Miami is out unless he just wants a big payday to babysit someone.  Tampa, maybe but only if he thinks Arians has that team to win now, which I don't they are

I think this is just a long term family planning move.  After he retires the taxes in Florida are much saner than the taxes in Soviet Califonia

Arians had success with Palmer at the end of his career. They certainly have a great supporting cast on offense.

Indianapolis or Chicago make a lot of sense, but at this point is Rivers that much better than Brissett and Trubisky?

My wife has work out of LA frequently so I’ve been lucky to spend a decent amount of time in Cali. I’ve always had a great time but I get a similar vibe as NYC gives me in that it’s the the land of the haves and the have nots to a hyper-extent. You don’t want to live there if you’re just eeking out a “middle class” life but it’s a great place to be if you’re in the top tier.

Which he is of course the top tier so it’s not about taxes that he left. I think it’s more about why he bought the house in Florida. He doesn’t know where he’s playing yet, but he knows its not the Chargers, so he moved to the SE near his family, and many rich athletes have their main residence in FL for tax purposes and then buy/rent another where they play. He doesn’t plan to play in Southern Cal anymore, so no reason to stay.

Haha! Soviet. That's a joke. This place is mucho capitalist. Everything here favors the super rich, business owners, gentrification, etc. Working class people are displaced everyday while the major capitalists in the state skirt all the tax laws and get all the benefits. It is capitalist welfare state. Not socialist or communist.

Of course, I say this with the assumption that you have read Marx, Lenin, etc. And that you know what Marxism, Stalinism, etc. is.

But truthfully, California is a neoliberal capitalist state. Period.

Perhaps you're referring to the social aspects in the state like gender rights and anti-racism. But you would be hardpressed to argue that the Soviets were open to that.

Finally, getting welfare benefits in this state is exceptionally difficult. The public health care is only for super super poor. Same with food. Housing assistance is impossible to get. And unemployment is a nightmare and takes forever to get benefits.

I know this is about Phillip Rivers,  but I hate this straight up ######ed assumption about Cali.

If you had the kind of money they have, you'd find ways to ease the boredom.

If I had 1/100th of the money they have, I'd fully retire with enough of an entertainment budget that I wouldn't get bored.

California is approaching a neo-feudal system

I can see Arians taking him as he wants to be done with Winston, and loves veterans like when he took Palmer and before that Warner.   Living in Tampa, I’d love it as a bridge.  The Tampa offense has a ton of weapons.  A lot more the the Chargers.  This would give Tampa time to find their QB in the draft.  Before people give me a hard time, I’m a Bills fan first, second, and third, but lived here half my life so want to see this team do well as well and in a different conference.

In comparison to Florida with various "Florida man...", gators, pythons and day flooding?

California is a pretty big state.  I was in San Jose/San Francisco for a week back in July.  It was beautiful!

Last 8 games Rivers had 11 TDs and 13 INTs. He still had a lot of yards because they have good skill position players and trailed in most games so they had to pass a lot. He's going to get worse, not better. He had really good WRs, good TEs and excellent RBs.

I don't know what team takes him, especially since he will demand $15-20 million. What team commits to that even if for 1 year?

If he goes to another team picture Johnny Unitas as a Charger or Joe Namath as a Ram.

Big difference in taxes with a huge family moving from California to Florida

There certainly is a difference, but the guys a multi millionaire many many times over, it is not likely a big concern for him. How many millions has he pocketed every year for how many years? Not counting interest on investments... again not a real big concern for the one percenters. This is a family decision, not a financial decision. That and his career is in its tail end, may as well go home, chill, play a little golf, spend some time with the kids, and even let his body heal up completely.

He’s going to The Dolphins he’s not going to Tampa, they’re keeping Winston

This is true, but given that Miami has the most cap room than anyone and has 13 total draft picks. They can turn it around next year. Especially if Miami gets their hands on a good RB they won’t have to ask Rivers to do much, I can see them signing Rivers and keeping Fitz while trading away Rosen and drafting Tua and red shirting him all next year.

I'd choose to live in San Diego in this scenario!  Cost of living and taxes wouldn't be an issue.  Best weather and beaches can't be beat.  Just my opinion!

We must have been in different areas of San Fran.  I was there in May and it was nasty.  I will say it was nice out around the bridge.
