The Bengals are basically accusing him of faking it, now; after 8 weeks.

..interesting....thanks for the details........kind of suspect that there was no "in game play" that necessitated a sideline evaluation and removal from the game.....

No way Jose! I am a big UGA fan and was very happy Glenn was drafted by the Bills and liked the early play of Glenn.

sorry, but I think  either Glenn doesn’t have the body or drive to be a consistent player in the league. I also doubt he plays for backup money.

I can’t see McDermott and Beane ever signing him again.

This guys trades and signings for the most part age very well.

....McBeane must have sensed something with Glenn's prolonged foot issue to have dumped him (strictly opinion)......and now he voluntarily goes into concussion protocol?...somethin' ain't passing the smell test IMO..............

I know the Sammy defenders who have no legs to stand on will hate reading this but Sammy is now slated to miss his 3rd game in a row.  The last 2 games.......   They lost.

This is who he is, he has a spectacular game a couple ok games, a couple where he is inconsequential and then he is injured for a few.

Rinse and repeat.  The life of Sammy Watkins.

Yet another good move by Beane.

..think the guy is committed to his craft?......tells his "bride to be" he'll be bringing home FIVE BUCKS an hour in his paycheck?.....never understood why Pegula did not heed the advice of TBD posting experts clamoring for , "....fire McBeane....fire McDermot....fire The Rockpile Beerman...."....wouldn't THEY know BEST??..........

Imagine having this conversation with the woman you’re about to marry.

“Honey, I’m going to turn down a full-time entry-level job in journalism that pays about $30,000 annually to start with benefits, so I can go work a $5-an-hour internship for the Carolina Panthers.”

That happened back in 1998, and new Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane lived to laugh about it.

“My wife didn’t kick me out for that, so that was pretty good,” Beane said recently, recalling that potential deal-breaking moment when the just-out-of-college soon-to-be-newlyweds were preparing to start a life for themselves.

Just a point that as you acknowledge, many of the symptoms of concussion are self-reported; I'm not sure how that squares with "he wasn't presenting with any symptoms"  If the guy is seeing lights or experiencing ringing in his ears or having exertion-induced headaches, then those are the symptoms he presents with, self-reported or not

Now maybe Glenn is "faking it" but it seems to me that if he wants a 2nd opinion he has every right under the CBA to obtain one.

Kyle Turley has accounts of Mad Martz slamming his desk and screaming at him that he should get out there and play when he was still suffering from his back injury.  He feels it cut short his career (for those who don't know, Kyle Turley is the OLman who um, dealt forcefully with some guys who were trying to bowstring his QB while the Zebras stood by).

There are often two sides.

Interesting. The Trent Williams saga in Washington started because Trent felt the management and medical staff misdiagnosed him, rushed him back, didn’t take his condition seriously enough.  It’s a big thing now. Players are fighting back.  Players are orchestrating their own trades, etc..

He doesn't need permission to go get a second opinion. If he really wants one then why hasn't he just gotten one?

Byrd was a bad signing for NO.  That was back when the Saints were trying to buy a championship and it totally backfired.

The played the cap manipulation game and lost.  They missed 3 years of playoffs because of it.

what got them worst was giving big deals to two homegrown players that were out the door within about a year (graham and galette). Those bonus accelerations were hellacious. And on the heels of bountygate. and poor drafting. It was quite the time. Byrd was an issue but contributing to the problem not primary to it..

That may just be why I haven’t watched a full NBA game in many years, and generally don’t even stop on that channel until the Finals.

Bradley Beale--maybe a top 25 player---just got 72 million for 2 years.   That's more than any player in the NFL makes.  All guaranteed.

And on a Tuesday night in Milwaukee, he will coast. The last NBA game I attended live was in Charlotte, over 10 years ago. The kids had been good all day on a road trip, so we bought Hornets tix. Had about $800 into the night and 4 minutes in my youngest (hard working little AAU point guard) turns to me and says “THEY’RE NOT EVEN TRYING!” So true!

Also, in hoops you don’t take the absolute beating you’ll get in the NFL. There is ZERO coasting in the NFL, so there may be may tweaks, plantar fasciitis, back or concussion issues that are hard to deny......all to avoid having to get CRUSHED for that paycheck!

Or maybe he just doesn't want to play for the winless Bengals at this point? I also believe he feels slighted and is acting in this manner due to the fact they were kicking him into LG because of Williams, but when Williams gets injured he is being put back at LT. Some athletes are petty and it's hard to judge what is ego or legit anymore.

I dunno H2O, the more I read about this the more bogus it sounds. Even if he doesn't want to play for a loser or get moved to G, he's under contract. Not playing because he's not happy but still getting paid is odius.

The trade up for Josh is looking pretty good with benefit of hindsight.

Too early to say, but it's been good for both sides.

My sympathies are usually with the injured person. They know better than doctors if they're still suffering symptoms. Glenn was a good teammate here. Concussions are serious business, and Cincy should back down a bit. A second opinion is a very very reasonable thing.

a second is reasonable though worth noting it’s an independent doctor that clears concussion protocols.

and neither side should delay the opinions

i tend to believe players about injuries, but they owe it to the team to seek timely diagnosis and treatment should the player claim an injury and not want to use team treatments

It sure was.  The other thing was how many restructured contracts they went thru to open up more cap space.

What NO went thru during those years was one of the main reason I got into understanding cap limits/contracts etc.

The player's union have a lot more clout in the NBA since roster sizes are only about a fourth of the NFL and of those only about half play on a regular basis.  NBA players also last about a year and a half longer on average as it's not the physical sport football is.  Any kid going into college highly recruited in basketball and football should pry choose the former in most instances.  Same goes for picking baseball against football (unless you're out of this world talented like Russell Wilson and possibly Kyler Murray).

Since "avoiding playing as much as possible" was arguably what Byrd did to the Bills (as long as he could while getting paid), the Saints had every reason to know what they were getting with Byrd.

As the Al Wilson song says " "I saved you," cried the woman "And you've bitten me, but why? You know your bite is poisonous and now I'm going to die"
"Oh shut up, silly woman," said the reptile with a grin "You knew damn well I was a snake before you took me in"

I don't think that's fair at all, Hapless. In his first four years, Byrd played nearly every game. Every single game in year 3 and year 4. It was only in his fifth year, when tagged that he became careful. And why wouldn't you? When you have a foot injury in a contract year, would you play and put bad performances on film?

Byrd was a team guy, playing on the same injury in year 4. But when the Bills tagged him, it only made sense not to play at less than full strength. I'd have done the same, rehabbing as hard as I could but protecting myself.

The Saints got Byrd's best, as the Bills did the first four years, but he fit the Bills and didn't fit the Saints early and he hurt his back and was never the same after he got to N.O. And by the way, having Rob Ryan as your coordinator, as he did in the Big Easy, isn't the way to maximize your performance.

Very similar to planters fakeitis Byrd had - it depends on input from patient.

I was diagnosed with it after seeing doctor who claimed he could find no physical issue and it was psychosomatic (found out later actually written on chart).

Went to another doctor and he thought it was planters and he put me in a hard boot to soften the foot and it almost crippled me.

He said that should not happened and ordered a MRI.  He found a cyst the size of a golf ball in my ankle and it was removed by specialist.

After I recovered I went to doctor who labelled it "in my head" and told receptionist I had trouble getting insurance to pay and I needed to see my file.

She pulled it out and gave it to me.  When I read it I started getting loud and 2 doctors and nurse came out of office with one being a doctor.

In front of staff and patients I called him a quack and he said he would sue me for slander and I told him to go ahead.

I started reading file"

  • Patient appears to be shopping around doctors, he reported 6 before office visit."
  • "No physical issues, entirely psychosomatic."
  • etc

Then I dropped a copy of my CD with MRI on table.  Here is what a real doctor determined.  Doctor found a cyst in ankle intertwined between ankle bones, tendons and blood vessels.  Immediate surgery is necessary.

At this point a number of patients started leaving with one telling receptionist she was cancelling appointment.

Doctor demanded file and I refused stating I may need it in court.  I will get a notarized copy and return it; you may need to defend yourself to medical practices board.

I checked and you had no credentials to diagnose a "mental illness".  Since I could not get insurance claim paid I will need to show this to insurance company.

Was never contacted by doctor except for a call asking for copy of file returned, doctor's office declined to attempt to attempt to get me to pay bill anymore.

Anytime a diagnosis is made requiring non-empirical data it is not science but guess work.

With concussions you are dealing with the most complex organ in the body.

The NFL needs to protect itself especially with contracts guaranteed for injury but to prevent abuse there must be some contracted standard otherwise many players will act like Percy Harvin did go off rosters, get paid and then try to return and repeat when they fell well.

I don't understand why anyone would want to re-sign a player that has obviously gotten paid and mailed it in.  The dude is lazy.  Bean got rid of him for a reason.  People want him back.  sigh.

Beane did get rid of him for a reason. That reason seems to have been to get Josh Allen or another one of the top QBs that year.

Cordy just doesn’t want to be there. He sees a total rebuild and he has been there done that with us. Next he’ll be making Trent Williams like trade demands. The problem is he just isn't as good as his big paycheck. I liked him when he was here, but I’m pretty happy he’s gone now.

If I am not mistaken, wasn't he at odds with the Bills as well over his foot injury while here? Either way, they are likely headed for a divorce one way or another most likely.

I would bring him back if healthy on a Vet Min and put him at the RT spot

Hmmm I find it funny that the same people that are saying I would never take him back because he doesnt want to risk Brain (having lingering symptoms) are the the same People that would trade for AJ Green who is milking his Injury to not play for the train wreck in Cincy
